Zheng Yifan thought their mother must have regretted it in the end.
Regretted abandoning Feng Ruo and bringing back Feng Qing—this stubborn girl with values so different from theirs, unyielding to a fault.
Feng Ruo’s death had been their mother’s doing, driven by fear that Feng Ruo would challenge Feng Qing. That’s why she’d ruthlessly killed the foster daughter she’d raised for over twenty years.
As Zheng Yifan stormed off, his two younger brothers followed.
Trailing behind, they shot glares back at Feng Qing.
Outside the office, they caught up to their eldest brother. “Big Brother, are we really taking leave?” they asked.
“With Mom gone, the company’s a headless mess. If we don’t step in, I’m afraid we’ll be pushed out soon,” Zheng Lao’er whispered. “Dad told us to grab as much as we can now—gotta figure out a way to pocket more money.”
Whether Feng Qing took over or Hai Ling rose to power, they needed to stash cash and run.
After their mother’s fall, staying at Feng Corporation would be near impossible.
Even with their own sister in charge, she wouldn’t keep them around.
Feng Qing had long despised their high positions, calling them incompetent, drawing fat salaries for nothing.
“Second Brother, don’t say that stuff in the company,” Zheng Laosan nudged him, voice low.
The place was rigged with surveillance.
If Feng Qing checked the footage, she’d hear everything.
Zheng Yifan took a deep breath. “It’s almost year-end. The company’s swamped, rushing to finish urgent orders before the holiday break. With Mom gone, it’s chaos—perfect timing. But the messier it gets, the tighter Feng Qing watches.”
“Let’s visit Dad at the hospital first, fill him in.”
The three brothers stepped into the elevator.
Zheng Lao’er grumbled bitterly, “I don’t even know if her veins carry our family’s blood. How’s she so different from us?”
Zheng Yifan paused, then said, “She’s the direct-line daughter of the Feng family—of course she’s not like us. She’s like Mom, so much like Mom, but she’s kept her conscience. Her底线 is shallow, not like Mom’s.”
“And we’re not Feng family daughters, so she’s got us pinned.”
“Dad knows her character too. That’s why he told us to raid the mansion for valuables first. But she and those people from Guancheng had it all planned out.”
“I just don’t get it. Even if she didn’t grow up with us, even if there’s no sibling bond, she’s been back for two or three years. How many times has she met those Guancheng folks? How long have they even spent together?”
“And she still sides with them. She drove Mom to her grave.”
Zheng Laosan added, “Why didn’t *she* die instead? If A-Ruo were still here, Mom might not have gone down. A-Ruo would’ve been on Mom’s side for sure. Remember when Mom wanted to move against Hai Ling? It was Feng Qing who tipped them off, put them on guard.”
