When returning from Jiangcheng, Hai Ling would usually go to her in-laws’ house first.
She respected Lu Dongming, so she would visit her parents-in-law, meet them, then return to her own small home before heading to Youyou Villa.
“Niu Niu, Yangyang.”
Mrs Lu had known since early morning that her youngest son and his wife would return today.
The butler told her that the Fourth Young Master was back, and Mrs Lu was so happy she was like a child. She came out of the house and happened to see Yangyang carrying his granddaughter out of the car. She walked down the steps joyfully.
Before she even reached them, she stretched out both arms to take her granddaughter.
“Grandma.”
Niu Niu called out in her milky voice.
Hearing her granddaughter’s soft, sweet call, Mrs Lu’s heart melted.
She hurried over and took the little granddaughter from Yangyang’s arms.
“Niu Niu, did you miss Grandma? Grandma missed you so much.”
Mrs Lu kissed her granddaughter’s cheek and asked with a smile.
“Grandma.”
Yangyang also called Mrs Lu affectionately.
Mrs Lu freed one hand to pat Yangyang’s head and said, “Yangyang has been coming back less often. It’s been a while, and you’ve grown taller again, but you’re a bit thin. You need to eat more.”
Hai Ling said as she got out of the car, “Mum, Yangyang eats plenty. He’s growing now, shooting up in height, so he looks thin when he gets taller.”
“Actually, his weight is standard.”
Very standard.
“Yangyang has indeed grown a lot taller.”
After getting out, Hai Ling took down the various supplements she had brought back from the car.
Mrs Lu told her, “Hai Ling, you’re back at your own home. No need to be so polite. Look at you, every time you return, you bring bags and bags of things. We lack nothing at home, and your dad and I can’t eat that much between us.”
“If we share them, they say their homes already have too much, they can’t finish it, simply can’t finish it.”
All four sons were married with their own families and did not usually live with the couple. They only gathered during festivals or when the grandchildren were on holiday.
Lu Dongming was the last of the brothers to marry. By the time he wed, his youngest nephew was already over ten, and the older nieces and nephews were out doing internships.
His own daughter, though, was only two years old. Once, his eldest nephew took Niu Niu out to meet friends, and people thought he had secretly married and had a child.
Hai Ling said, “It’s not much. I sent a portion to each of the brothers, so there’s not a lot left.”
Lu Dongming was the last to get out of the car.
After alighting, he was about to call out to his mum, but he saw her happily holding her granddaughter, pulling her grandson, and calling her daughter-in-law into the house.
Lu Dongming: “After all this time, she still treasures the daughter-in-law and doesn’t even want her son.”
Lu Dongming grumbled that his mother only had eyes for the daughter-in-law and grandchildren, completely ignoring her own son.
He still had to carry the remaining supplements into the house.
In the hall, Mrs Lu sat on the two-seater sofa holding her granddaughter. The butler had long prepared all sorts of snacks the children liked.
Hai Ling sat opposite her mother-in-law and asked, “Mum, is Dad not home?”
“He’s still not up. Knowing you were coming today, I couldn’t sleep. I got up early, walked several laps in the courtyard, and finally waited for you to arrive.”
Mrs Lu kissed her granddaughter’s little face again. “Our Niu Niu is getting more and more adorable.”
Niu Niu had inherited the best features of both parents, resembling both dad and mum.
Mrs Lu had once worried that her youngest son would not even have a biological child. Fortunately, Hai Ling took over the Feng family business and, to produce an heir for the Fengs, gave birth to a second child.
Though it was a daughter, she was still Lu Dongming’s own flesh and blood, and Mrs Lu was completely satisfied.
