The car became quiet.
Soon, the sound of Lin Jian snoring could be heard. He had fallen asleep.
When drunk, it is easy to fall asleep.
Yuehua turned up the air conditioning in the car, afraid that he might catch a chill while sleeping.
As for the words the two of them had exchanged earlier, she did not know how much he had actually taken in.
Yuehua hoped that Lin Jian would let go of his feelings for Zeng Xiaoya. Zeng Xiaoya could never accept him.
Now there was a Mr Zhan by Zeng Xiaoya’s side. Although she had never met Mr Zhan, from what Lin Jian said, she knew that Mr Zhan was very handsome. As for his family conditions, Lin Jian did not know yet.
However, all the shops along Wansheng Street belonged to Mr Zhan’s cousin’s wife.
Lin Jian always said that Mr Zhan was just someone who lived off the elderly, off his brother, off his sister-in-law. He was useless, relying only on his good looks to deceive girls everywhere.
He said that Zeng Xiaoya would be fooled by Mr Zhan’s handsome face.
He also complained that even though he went to the Zeng family clinic every day, he could not win over Zeng’s second aunt. As soon as second aunt Zeng saw Mr Zhan, she clearly favoured him.
He blamed their fellow women for being looks-obsessed, always tolerant towards handsome men.
Back at the neighbourhood where Lin Jian lived, Yuehua was driving Lin Jian’s car, so she could drive straight into the compound.
She was a nurse at the Lin family clinic. Having worked there for several years and admiring the boss, she knew his situation very well.
She drove directly into the garage, found the parking space that Lin Jian had bought along with the flat, and parked the car. Then she pushed Lin Jian and called out, “Doctor Lin, we have arrived at your home. Wake up a bit.”
Lin Jian was sleeping soundly. No matter how she pushed him, he did not wake.
Yuehua had no choice but to get out of the car first. She walked around the vehicle to the passenger side, opened the door, leaned in, and struggled to help Doctor Lin out.
Once out of the car, Lin Jian woke briefly, but soon his head rested on Yuehua’s shoulder again. He let her support him as they walked towards the lift.
Almost his entire body weight was pressing on Yuehua, making it very difficult for her to hold him up. It took all her strength to get him to the lift entrance.
Fortunately, after exiting the lift, it was only a few metres to Lin Jian’s flat.
Lin Jian’s car keys had his front door key attached. Yuehua used the keys to open the door. As soon as she turned, she saw her Doctor Lin had already slid to the floor, dreaming sweetly.
Yuehua helplessly bent down to help him up. She could not manage it in one go, so she gave up. After entering the flat, she grabbed Doctor Lin’s legs and dragged him inside.
She dragged him all the way to the sofa before going to close the door.
Even then, Doctor Lin did not wake up.
Feeling a bit tired, Yuehua returned to the sofa and sat down. Looking at Doctor Lin lying on the floor, still sleeping sweetly, she felt both amused and heartbroken, but mostly sour in her heart.
He was in such a sorry state all because of Doctor Zeng.
Yet Doctor Zeng had no romantic feelings for him at all.
After all this time, Doctor Zeng had not even made a phone call. Anyone with even a little feeling would call to ask if he had got home.
But Doctor Zeng had not called.
Yet he refused to give up.
She had said that they were from the same world, but deep down he looked down on her. With the heavy pressure he carried, no girl from a slightly better family background would marry him.

After sitting for a few minutes, Yuehua stood up, poured herself a cup of warm water and drank it. Only then did she help Doctor Lin up again and support him back to his room.
