The charging horde of hundreds of beasts was led by a blood-armored giant lizard, rivaling first-rank Mahayana, the rest included a few Empty Nether realm equivalents, over twenty at Unity realm, thirty-plus at Void Hollow, and weaker ones, their strength lay in numbers.
Even at three-tenths strength, Lin Yun could handle them easily, bolstered by his vast beast-fighting experience.
He stayed by Bailu’s side, not striking first, just guarding her, any beast that lunged, he dispatched—Empty Nether ones included.
Others’ safety wasn’t his concern.
The fight raged ten-plus minutes until Bai Yongzhi slew the giant lizard.
With its death, the remaining beasts scattered like frightened birds.
As they fled, the group finally stopped.
Many collapsed, panting heavily, like survivors of a calamity.
Though Bai Yongzhi killed the lizard, its dying frenzy left him badly wounded, gashed and bloodied.
Over a hundred beast corpses littered the ground.
“Bai Hui’s dead! Bai Hui’s dead!” a Bai youth screamed in horror.
Lin Yun glanced around, of the dozen-plus Bai members, one was dead, two gravely hurt, the rest variably injured.
Of the guards, two perished, the rest wounded too, all Unity or Empty Nether realm.
“This… this…”
The Bai youths stared at the fallen Bai Hui, the dead guards, the gore-soaked scene, their faces ashen.
They’d never witnessed such carnage.
Even the smug Bailian and Bai Tong were disheveled, wounded, dazed—clearly shaken.
“Good thing Uncle Yongzhi took down that lizard, or the losses would’ve been worse,” Bai Tong sighed.
“Wait, how’s Bailu unscathed?” someone piped up.
In the heat of battle, everyone had been too busy surviving to notice others.
All eyes turned to Bailu.
Her clothes were pristine, not a scratch on her!
Around her lay at least fifty beast corpses—more than anywhere else!
Lin Yun’s swift kills had drawn more beasts to them, so he’d racked up the highest tally.
“How… how’s this possible!” Bailian gaped, incredulous.
She’d figured Bailu, with no guard, just the ‘cripple’ Lin Yun, would be doomed.
Yet they were battered, and Bailu stood untouched!
What happened? Too busy fighting, she’d missed their corner.
“Could… that guy have killed those fifty-plus beasts!”
“He’s a meridian-shattered wreck, isn’t he?”
Eyes shifted to Lin Yun beside Bailu.
Who else could it be?
“Every beast around Miss Bailu has fatal wounds—vitals only, no stray marks, all one-shot kills! Only a seasoned veteran could do that!” a savvy guard exclaimed.
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
“Kid, you killed these?” Bai Tong couldn’t help asking.
Before departure, this mink-clad Bai Tong had ordered Lin Yun to scram, claiming he couldn’t protect Bailu.
“I said, if danger came, I’d protect Bailu,” Lin Yun’s deep eyes stayed calm.
He paused, then added, “Also, don’t call me ‘kid,’ call me ‘senior,’ our ages may be close, but my experience far outstrips yours.”
Bai Tong’s eye twitched, ready to retort, but the pile of corpses choked his words.
Even Bailian stayed silent, no snark to muster.
Bai Yongzhi knew it was Lin Yun—he’d caught it in his peripheral vision.
“Everyone, danger’s passed, heal up quick,” the pale Bai Yongzhi said.
Wounded himself, he popped a healing pill.
“Yes!”
The others began tending their injuries.
“Danger’s not over,” Lin Yun’s voice cut through the calm.
“What’s he on about?” The group blinked, baffled, the beasts were gone, no threats remained.
Even Bai Yongzhi looked puzzled.
“Oi, stop spouting nonsense to scare us, yeah?” Bailian snapped.
Lin Yun smirked, “Bailian, I said danger was coming before, you scoffed, still think I’m talking rubbish?”
He turned, staring into the woods, “Folks, since you’re here, planning to hide forever?”
All eyes followed his gaze.
“We meant to catch you healing, off-guard, didn’t expect to be spotted, no matter, you’re no match anyway, showing ourselves now changes nothing,” a booming voice echoed.
Then, over a dozen figures emerged from the trees.
They looked young.
Their auras flared.
The leader radiated second-rank Mahayana, joined by three first-rank Mahayana, the other nine were Empty Nether, two at third-rank.
Their strength outclassed the Bai group.
Worse, the Bai side was battered from the beast fight, Bai Yongzhi and the guards all injured.
A clash now, and the Bai clan would suffer badly!
“What a lineup!”
“We’re done for, what do we do!”
The Bai youths panicked.
Even Bai Yongzhi’s face turned grim.
“Friends, we’re from the Bai clan, give us some face, eh? These Golden Immortal Fruits, we can split—one each, no one loses,” he said, forcing calm.
“Split? Ha, why would we? As for the Bai clan, sorry, we don’t care, kill you lot, who’d know it was us?” the green-robed leader laughed.
The Bai group’s faces fell further.
“Uncle Yongzhi, give them the fruits! We don’t want them!” Bailian cried, frantic.
