“I believe Vice Palace Master Yao won’t be disappointed when the time comes,” Lin Yun said, still smiling.
He could tell that Yao remained skeptical about his feat of slaying two seventh-level Heavenly Demons.
Lin Yun didn’t blame him; such an achievement was indeed too extraordinary, far beyond Yao’s comprehension.
People tend to doubt things that exceed their understanding, even with evidence, unless Lin Yun could fully demonstrate the strength to kill seventh-level Heavenly Demons.
Yao looked down at Fei Huo’s corpse. “Judging by this Heavenly Demon’s appearance, it’s Fei Huo, a powerhouse among the demon race, likely in their top twenty, perhaps even top fifteen. Since the peace period began, this is the strongest Heavenly Demon our Heavenly God Palace has killed!”
Clearly, Yao was familiar with some of the demon race’s key figures.
Then, Yao looked up at Lin Yun. “I’m curious, how did you lure it out of the Demon Beast Mountain Range? A Heavenly Demon of this level would normally never leave there.”
“They came to assassinate me, and I turned the tables,” Lin Yun grinned.
Yao was stunned, then exclaimed, “You went out alone again? Lin Yun, that’s dangerous! What if the demon race succeeded in killing you? You’re a treasure to our Heavenly God Palace. I specifically told your master to protect you at all times.”
“Don’t worry, Vice Palace Master Yao, I know what I’m doing,” Lin Yun said with a grin.
“Regardless, Fei Huo’s death is a major loss for the demon race and a cause for celebration for us humans,” Yao sighed.
“By the way, Vice Palace Master Yao, can I take this demon beast’s corpse? It’s full of valuable materials,” Lin Yun said with a smile.
“It’s your trophy, so of course you can,” Yao nodded with a smile.
At that, Lin Yun stored Fei Huo’s corpse in his storage space.
“Then, Vice Palace Master Yao, I’ll take my leave,” Lin Yun said, smiling.
After bidding farewell, he turned and left.
…
Fire Cloud Empire, Divine Capital City.
Lin Residence.
After returning, Lin Yun spent two days with his family. During this time, Yun Shang, Su Yan, Jiang Jingwen, Qin Shi, and Zhao Ling’er paused their secluded cultivation to reunite with him.
Lone Wolf, Venom Fang, and his grandfather were there too.
Lin Yun had expected Yao to announce his feat of slaying two seventh-level Heavenly Demons to the entire Heavenly God Palace via communication bracelet, as such a remarkable achievement would typically be publicized.
But two days passed without any news.
It seemed Yao had no immediate plans to announce it.
Lin Yun didn’t dwell on it. Having received 20,000 Haoyue Crystals as a reward, he was quite content.
Refining 20,000 Qiankun Crystals would require substantial resources, after all.
Two days later.
Fire Cloud Emperor sent word that he’d found a time-flow artifact for Lin Yun and asked him to come collect it.
Lin Yun headed straight to the palace.
Inside the Divine Connection Hall.
“Disciple, this Purple Cloud Tower has an eightfold time-flow rate. I specially bought it from the leader of Carefree Tower,” Fire Cloud Emperor said, tossing the Purple Cloud Tower to Lin Yun.
“Thank you, Master,” Lin Yun said, bowing with a smile.
This Purple Cloud Tower surpassed his previous One Thought Clear Heart Tower in effectiveness.
“Go, cultivate well,” Fire Cloud Emperor waved.
“Then I’ll take my leave,” Lin Yun said, bowing before departing.
…
Demon Beast Mountain Range, Demon Commander’s Mansion Hall.
“Two days!”
In the dimly lit hall, the Demon Commander paced anxiously.
Two days had passed since he sent Fei Huo and the other seventh-level Heavenly Demon to assassinate Lin Yun. He knew if they’d succeeded, they would have reported back by now.
The longer he waited, the more uneasy he felt. Had something gone wrong? Had they failed?
“No way. With Fei Huo’s strength, killing Lin Yun should be effortless!” the Demon Commander muttered, his face dark.
Before Fei Huo left, he’d instructed him to scout for ambushes and confirm it was safe before acting.
Though the Demon Commander didn’t believe the mission could fail, the fact that Fei Huo and ‘Jiao’ had been out of contact for two days worried him.
Just then, a Heavenly Demon rushed into the hall.
“Report, Demon Commander! We just received news that Lin Yun appeared publicly in the Fire Cloud Empire’s Divine Capital City, unharmed,” the demon reported nervously.
“What!”
The news struck the Demon Commander like lightning, his face contorting.
He knew exactly what it meant: Lin Yun was alive, and Fei Huo and ‘Jiao’ hadn’t returned. The assassination had failed.
It was clear Fei Huo and ‘Jiao’ had perished…
After a long moment of stunned silence.
“Why! Why can’t we kill this guy? How is his luck so great!!!” the Demon Commander roared, his eyes blazing with fury.
Sending two seventh-level Heavenly Demons and still failing to kill Lin Yun? He couldn’t comprehend it!
In his rage, the cold hall’s temperature surged.
The demons in the hall trembled, sweating, not daring to breathe loudly, fearing they’d draw his wrath.
“Could it be… he held out until Fire Cloud Emperor or other reinforcements arrived? Or… was it a trap?”
The Demon Commander speculated on various possibilities.
The one thing he absolutely refused to believe was that Lin Yun defeated Fei Huo and ‘Jiao’ himself. To him, that was absurd.
No matter what he theorized, he had to face the near-certain truth: Fei Huo and ‘Jiao’ were gone.
Losing two such powerful demon generals for nothing, without even killing Lin Yun, was a loss he couldn’t accept…
Worst of all, failing to kill Lin Yun with such formidable forces meant future attempts would be nearly impossible.
