Roar
The roars grew closer, and Chu Feng could see pairs of massive eyes approaching through the distant night sky.
Based on the size of those eyes, Chu Feng could deduce that even the smallest of these beasts would be no less than ten thousand metres tall.
As the enemy drew near, Chu Feng activated his Heaven’s Eyes to observe.
As expected, under the gaze of his Heaven’s Eyes, the demonic creatures were fully revealed.
These were humanoid demons, but they had no hair, no noses, no ears—nothing but enormous eyes glowing with an eerie light and a gaping mouth.
Aside from their white eyes, their bodies were entirely black, including their mouths and fangs. Even when they opened their mouths to roar, unless one looked closely, it was nearly impossible to tell their mouths were open.
Only their eyes stood out, drawing attention.
And now, thousands upon thousands of such creatures were converging on Chu Feng’s location from all directions.
Though their movements appeared slow, their speed was actually astonishing.
In mere moments, they were within a hundred thousand metres of Chu Feng.
That distance was precisely within the attack range of the formations.
*Swish, swish, swish—*
The grand formation unleashed white flames, which coalesced into arrows in midair, sweeping outwards like a torrential rain.
The arrows were immensely powerful, each ten metres long and half a foot wide. When they pierced the demons, they left wounds dozens of metres in diameter on their bodies.
And such arrows rained down in a relentless barrage.
The demons had no way to dodge. In the blink of an eye, the closest demons were shattered to pieces.
“These demons don’t seem like much,” Chu Feng remarked.
“Don’t underestimate them,” the little girl warned, her face grave compared to Chu Feng’s nonchalance.
This made Chu Feng realise that these demons were far from ordinary.
*Roar—*
Sure enough, the demons in the distance began to open their massive mouths. If Chu Feng hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn’t have believed their mouths could stretch so wide.
Wide enough to swallow another demon of equal size in a single gulp.
Indeed, the demons were devouring their own kind.
Those that succeeded in swallowing their kin saw their black mouths turn blood-red, their black fangs become crimson, and their eyes shift to a scarlet hue.
Moreover, these evolved demons moved noticeably faster.
Most critically, the arrows’ damage to these demons was significantly reduced.
While the arrows could still pierce their bodies, they no longer left massive wounds—just clean punctures.
Worst of all, the evolved demons continued to devour each other, their bodies undergoing further transformations.
Their black bodies began to sprout red scales, and their sharp claws turned into blood-red blades.
In this state, the arrows could no longer penetrate their scales.
*Roar—*
With a swing of a demon’s massive arm, the outermost formation was obliterated.
Though multiple layers of formations remained, each stronger than the last, they had only been capable of killing the demons at the start. As the demons continued to evolve, the formations quickly became ineffective, easily destroyed by the creatures.
As the demons’ scales transformed into armour and their bodies grew from ten thousand metres to tens of thousands of metres tall, Chu Feng realised that the formations he had spent a year crafting were utterly incapable of stopping them.
“They really are useless. If I’d known this would happen, I wouldn’t have wasted my time setting up these formations,” Chu Feng said, his voice tinged with helplessness.
The little girl’s youthful face was also heavy with solemnity.
“I never imagined they’d reached this level. It seems this time, they can evolve into their complete form. I’m doomed.”
At this, the little girl turned to Chu Feng.
“These demons and I cannot leave this place, but you can.”
As she spoke, a beam of light shot from the symbol on her forehead into the sky.
The beam projected into the air, forming a barrier gate.
“Kid, what’s this about?” Chu Feng asked.
“Everything you’ve done this past year, I’ve seen it all. I know you’ve done your best. Go,” the little girl said.
“That’s not right, is it? You said
* You said before that whether I could leave wasn’t up to you. Now you’re proving otherwise,” Chu Feng said.
“This was your test, and you’ve passed it. Go,” the little girl replied.
“If I leave, will they still keep attacking?” Chu Feng asked.
“Of course. Though setting up the formations was part of your test, it’s also true that they’re coming to capture me,” the little girl said.
“I see.”
“By the way, Kid, I forgot to ask—why are these creatures so desperate to capture you?” Chu Feng asked.
“Because… I’m delicious. If they can eat my delectable flesh, their power will grow immensely.”
“That’s why they’ll stop at nothing to get to me,” the little girl said.
“Oh, I get it.”
Chu Feng smiled, then leapt into the air.
But upon seeing this, the little girl’s expression changed drastically.
She realised Chu Feng wasn’t heading towards the barrier gate in the sky. Instead, gripping his blood-red longsword, he was flying straight towards the demons.
