Code Mage Chapter 29

In the square before the Mercenary Guild, everyone was silent. This was yet another moment of stunned disbelief today. All eyes were on Debbie, who seemed oblivious to the situation, stirring a strange feeling in everyone’s hearts.

Debbie scanned the surroundings, glanced at Gilga, then at Ye Chui. When she saw Ye Chui’s blood-soaked arm, she let out a startled yelp, as if snapping back to reality, finally grasping what had happened. “I was hit by a spell and passed out?”

She leapt to her feet, warily eyeing Meili, who stood not far away.

“Damn it, I didn’t expect such a powerful mental mage in this town. My mistake. If I’m not wrong, you used the mid-level attack spell [Silence of All Things]. Impressive!” Debbie exclaimed, implying that only such a potent spell could knock her out.

“No, it was the low-level spell [Daze]…” Meili clarified.

“Hahaha, no need to be modest. I’m a summoner. A regular [Daze] wouldn’t work on me,” Debbie retorted, her face brimming with confidence.

“It really was [Daze]…” someone nearby confirmed.

“Really [Daze]?” Debbie froze for a moment, nearly dropping her facade. But she quickly adopted a knowing look. “Remarkable. You’ve trained the effect of [Daze] to such a level. Well done. You have great potential in mental magic.”

“It was just the most basic [Daze] spell…” Meili continued, her voice low.

“That’s impossible. I’m a summoner!” Debbie persisted, still trying to salvage her pride. But Ye Chui, struggling to stand, placed a hand on her shoulder. “Why bother?”

A grand summoner with no resistance to a low-level [Daze]… Girl, that fits you perfectly.

Seeing Debbie about to argue further, Ye Chui cut her off, his eyes turning to the golden swordswoman nearby. “This is the battle spirit you mentioned.”

“Exactly,” Debbie said, pursing her lips and nodding. “Gilga, nicknamed the Platinum Knight.”

Gilga had risen, nodding politely to Ye Chui. Her cold, proud face scanned the surroundings, first locking onto Meili, then shifting to Tatak and Ryan. She spoke, “Miss Debbie, I sense hostility toward you from these three. Shall I kill them for you?”

Her words were casual, as if killing them was a trivial matter.

This shocked everyone, especially Tatak, Ryan, and Meili, who felt a surge of anger.

“No need to kill them. Just teach them a lesson so they won’t bother us again,” Debbie said, waving her hand. She knew the trio’s status was significant. Killing them publicly would leave her and Ye Chui with no place in Stan Town.

“Understood, Miss Debbie,” Gilga nodded gently, her flawless face turning toward Ryan.

Los and others hurried to Ye Chui’s side, helping him up. They gazed at Gilga with awe and curiosity, their perception of Debbie shifting. This girl could summon such an outrageously powerful spirit!?

Debbie leaned toward Ye Chui, inspecting his wounds. “It doesn’t look too serious. I can’t summon two spirits at once, so I’ll have Afu heal you later.”

“Alright,” Ye Chui nodded, glancing at Gilga. “Your battle spirit looks formidable.”

“Of course. She’s my strongest spirit. The Platinum Knight’s name echoes across the continent,” Debbie said proudly, turning to Los and the others. “Miss Los, as a swordswoman, you must have heard of the Platinum Knight Gilga, right?”

“Uh?” Los exchanged glances with Gayton, Harley, and Matt, looking awkward. “Sorry, I keep track of renowned swordsmen, but we’ve never heard of the Platinum Knight Gilga…”

“What the hell?” Ye Chui’s body stiffened, a bad feeling rising. He looked at Debbie with deep suspicion. Girl, don’t let me down at this critical moment!

Debbie froze, finding it hard to believe. Los hadn’t heard of the Platinum Knight Gilga? How could that be? Her eyes swept over the crowd, reading their expressions. They were amazed by the Platinum Knight’s dazzling aura and imposing presence, but they clearly didn’t recognise her.

“Maybe it’s because this is a small town, and people lack exposure?” Debbie thought, her hand on her chin, her expression conflicted. “I was hoping summoning the Platinum Knight would stun everyone!”

As Ye Chui wondered if Debbie was being foolish again, Ryan, Meili, and Tatak regrouped, eyeing Gilga warily. Ryan’s earlier attack, the powerful [Fury of the Storm], had been effortlessly blocked by Gilga, indicating this spirit was no ordinary foe.

“This spirit seems tough. Let’s attack together!” Ryan decided, scanning the crowd. Unfortunately, only the three of them from the Bullhead Magic Guild were present. For the guild, ganging up was never a concern.

Tatak and Meili nodded, stepping forward cautiously, ready to cast spells.

Ye Chui tensed, whispering to Debbie, “Is your spirit up to this?”

“Young man, have some faith in your partner. Do I look that unreliable?” Debbie said, arms crossed, dismissive.

“…It’s exactly because you seem so unreliable that I lack confidence,” Ye Chui replied earnestly.

“…” Debbie, displeased, snapped her fingers and said to Gilga, “Take care of those three. Do it in a cool way, got it?”

“Yes, Miss Debbie. I’m happy to serve.”

The golden swordswoman gave Debbie an odd, bowing salute, then turned to Ryan’s trio, drawing her golden longsword with a swoosh.

Though no wind blew, her golden hair danced wildly, and her golden battle skirt rustled, exuding an imposing aura. Her eyes, resolute and cold, faced her three opponents. “Hah!” she shouted, her golden armour gleaming brighter, radiating golden sword light.

For a moment, Gilga seemed to become a human-shaped golden lightbulb!

Then, the lightbulb flickered, like a bulb with faulty wiring or low power. After two flickers, Gilga’s sword light abruptly went out.

“What’s going on?” Everyone wondered, looking to Debbie.

Gilga’s elegant brows furrowed slightly. She glanced at her hand, sheathed her sword, and walked back to Debbie. Then she said something that left Ye Chui and everyone else petrified.

It was something Ye Chui could never have imagined.

Gilga respectfully said to Debbie, “Miss Debbie, your balance is insufficient. Please top up with gold coins.”
