After waiting for a moment, the breakthrough Ink Lady had anticipated did not occur. White Robe’s body remained as still as stagnant water.
“You seem to have forgotten my constitution. I’m not an ordinary demon. A single drop of demon liquid can’t make me break through.”
White Robe looked at Ink Lady, a trace of mockery in his eyes, and said calmly, “By the way, your breath is truly foul!
Perhaps that human zither master refused to be your husband because you were too stenchy?”
“You…!!”
Ink Lady was instantly enraged, grabbing White Robe’s neck and saying coldly, “Do you really think I won’t kill you?”
“Yes, at least not before I break through to the Demon General realm. That would be of no benefit to you, would it?”
White Robe grinned, his expression pained but his eyes devoid of fear.
Ink Lady’s face darkened, her fingers tightening, causing White Robe’s face to flush and his eyes to roll back. Yet, in the end, she released him.
“You’re too clever, clever enough to make this king uneasy, but I bet your flesh will taste delicious!”
Ink Lady snorted coldly, forcing another drop of demon liquid into White Robe’s forehead.
However, the result made her face sour; there was still no reaction.
She continued, injecting drop after drop into White Robe’s body, consuming half her demon liquid, nearly destabilising her cultivation foundation. Finally, a change occurred in White Robe’s aura!
“Boom! Boom! Boom!”
Three consecutive roars echoed from within White Robe’s body.
His cultivation surged from late Demon Soldier to peak Demon Soldier, then broke through to early Demon General, and finally mid Demon General!
The triple breakthrough stunned Ink Lady momentarily, but she soon burst into joy.
“Excellent, you broke through to mid Demon General in one go!”
“This king’s efforts weren’t in vain. Now, as long as I eat you, I can awaken the Demon-Devouring Spirit Body. The core demon liquid I spent is irrelevant!”
Seeing White Robe’s breakthrough, Ink Lady was ecstatic, revealing her fanged maw and biting into his neck.
Instantly, blood gushed, but White Robe didn’t even flinch, instead throwing a punch!
“Boom!”
The next moment, Ink Lady was sent flying.
“What?!”
Ink Lady was shocked by this. She hadn’t expected White Robe to resist, nor that his strength had grown so formidable.
He had only just broken through to Demon General, yet he could challenge her!
“It seems your so-called King Realm power isn’t that terrifying, so… you should die!”
White Robe’s gaze turned icy, his aura growing stronger. Though only mid Demon General, he momentarily raised it to peak Demon General!
Black flames ignited across his body.
“You damned thing, you dare attack me?!”
Ink Lady looked at White Robe grimly, startled by the aura he emitted.
“You’re going to eat me, and I’m not allowed to fight back?”
White Robe looked at Ink Lady, his face expressionless.
“Just you?”
“A mere mid Demon General, freshly broken through. I don’t know how you raised your aura to peak Demon General, but how long can you sustain it?”
Ink Lady sneered. As a Demon King, she could clearly sense the changes in White Robe’s aura, knowing his state couldn’t last long.
“You’re right, it won’t last long, because I’m only burning the demon liquid you injected into me. But it should be more than enough to kill you!”
White Robe remained calm, continuing, “I told you, you don’t understand the Demon-Devouring Spirit Body. This spirit body has a trait: it can store accumulated demonic energy, hiding it throughout the body, preventing it from condensing into liquid, thus naturally blocking a breakthrough to Demon General. You could call this a way of suppressing cultivation.
So, I wasn’t progressing slowly. I deliberately suppressed my cultivation long ago!
The demon liquid you injected into me wasn’t truly absorbed. I sealed it in my body from the start, preventing it from erupting, all to weaken your strength as much as possible!”
“You’re truly my good disciple!”
Ink Lady spat venomously, not expecting White Robe’s schemes to run so deep. She lunged at him, snarling, “Even with all your calculations, you can’t bridge the gap between Demon General and King Realm. You’ll die all the same!”

A series of explosions erupted, and Ink Lady was sent flying again, this time out of the hut. White Robe followed closely.
“You’re wrong again. My plans go beyond this. Over the years, much of the blood food you gave us was poisoned. Though you cleared most of the toxins with your demonic energy, the Demon-Devouring Spirit Body excels at extracting the potential hidden in demon corpses, allowing me to harness their strongest power sources.
So now, my body contains a potent poison, a mix of countless toxins!
From the moment you bit me, you were poisoned!”
“What?!”
Ink Lady panicked, her attacks growing more frenzied, “You deserve to die!!”
“Don’t make it sound so harsh. We’re even!”
“Oh, and I forgot to mention, the reason I played the zither daily on the mountain peak wasn’t to slack off or act refined. It was to send messages through the birds and beasts.
This is the Hundred Thousand Mountains, teeming with demons. Who can guarantee there aren’t pawns of other great demons on this mountain?
Fortunately, my plan worked. A great demon learned of this place through those creatures and knew you were scheming to seize the Demon-Devouring Spirit Body. Your enemies naturally wouldn’t let you grow stronger.

Hearing White Robe’s words, Ink Lady’s heart grew colder, not with anger but with fear!

When Black Robe opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was White Robe’s weary face and his blood-stained robe.
“Brother White Robe, you’re hurt?”
Black Robe exclaimed, then, as if recalling something, glanced toward the door, hesitating to speak.
“She’s dead. I killed her. We’ll eat her together later!” White Robe forced a smile.
Black Robe fell silent at his words. After a long pause, she asked quietly, “Why did you kill her?”
“Because she wanted to harm us, so she deserved to die!”
“But she was our master!!”
Black Robe gritted her teeth, looking up at White Robe defiantly, as if, in that moment, he suddenly seemed like a stranger.
“Black Robe, sometimes what you see isn’t the truth. You only need to remember one thing: everything I do is to protect you!
Master is gone, but you still have me.
You can keep your innocence. Let me bear all the bloodshed!”
