Code Mage Chapter 165

In Ye Chui’s mental world.

The armoured warrior was slammed into the ground by the devil, leaving a terrifying crater in the street. Several cars were caught in the blast, flipped by the immense force. Pedestrians were crushed under falling vehicles, reduced to pulp. Ye Chui, using [Wind Walk], narrowly dodged to the side, his face frozen in a stunned expression.

The power gap was simply too vast!

The devil, baring its fanged maw, charged at Ye Chui again.

But at that moment, the blare of police sirens erupted. A barrage of gunfire followed, and squads of police appeared in the district, evacuating the panicked crowd while attacking the devil. Helicopters swooped in overhead. As Ye Chui looked up, a missile launched from one, hurtling toward the devil. With a boom, it exploded above the devil’s head.

Ye Chui’s spirits lifted, but he realised these weren’t the police from his original world’s city. Their uniforms and gear were a blend of Hollywood movie cop archetypes.

Was this his mental world’s defence mechanism?

Unfortunately, these police seemed to inherit the uselessness of Hollywood cops.

As the smoke from the explosion cleared, the devil’s head was unscathed. Such an attack couldn’t threaten it. Another missile fired from a helicopter, but the devil’s monstrous claw caught it mid-air. With a boom, the missile detonated, leaving the devil’s claws unharmed.

“Roar!” The devil bellowed at the sky, a ripple of spatial runes spreading upward.

The helicopters exploded and crashed to the ground.

Panic gripped the police, but they maintained their formation, forming a defensive line. They fired relentlessly, silver streams of bullets striking the devil, yet causing no damage. The devil roared furiously, shifting its focus from Ye Chui to the police, charging their ranks!

Its terrifying claws swiped, sending several heavily armed, shield-bearing officers flying. Its tail whipped, ensnaring a screaming policeman, lifting him to its maw, and tearing off his head…

The police were no match, slaughtered mercilessly.

But they bought Ye Chui a chance to escape.

He had activated [Second Battalion Commander’s Italian Cannon], ready to fire at the devil, but he knew it would be futile and might draw its attention back to him. Survival was his priority. He abandoned the attack, tapped his iPad magic book, and summoned a spirit: Dom Toretto.

The ultimate getaway driver!

“Find a car, quick!” Ye Chui shouted to Dom.

Dom glanced at the devil ravaging the police, his face grim, then nodded and rushed to find a vehicle.

Ye Chui kept a wary eye on the devil. Its power here wasn’t its true strength, as this was his mental world, where its abilities were amplified by his mind. But a million-plus point value was beyond comprehension. How could he defeat this chaos in his head?

The devil was this world’s most terrifying entity, while Ye Chui was just a moderately skilled magic mentor, far from a top-tier powerhouse. With his companions absent, how could he face the devil alone?

Even his strongest summonable spirit, Saitama-sensei, likely couldn’t win.

Not because Saitama wasn’t strong—his power was theoretically limitless, defined as the ultimate. But his attacks consumed Ye Chui’s points. To land a punch capable of defeating a million-point devil, he’d need hundreds of thousands of points.

Similarly, Saiyans, nuclear bombs, or Superman were limited by Ye Chui’s mana or points, unable to unleash their full potential.

“Clank, clank.” The sound of shifting armour rang out. Ye Chui looked and froze.

From the nearby crater, the armoured warrior was climbing out, battered. Its armour was tattered, revealing strange mechanical structures and glowing magical runes. Under some force, the damage began to fuse and self-repair.

Ye Chui eyed the warrior cautiously. “Are you really Jarvis?”

The warrior nodded, glancing at the devil slaughtering police. “Yes, Jarvis is my name.”

“So the armoured warrior summoned by [Safety Guardian] is you,” Ye Chui said, astonished. “But why are you summoned from my iPad magic book?” This had puzzled him for a while.

“I can’t explain. I died in the war between gods and devils, but somehow I was revived in your magic book. Perhaps it’s the work of my master,” Jarvis said quickly, his voice trembling slightly at “master.”

Watching the devil, Jarvis continued, “We’re in your mental world. If you die here, the Word Demon will take your body. As your guardian, I can persist here without limits and control some of this world’s forces. But I can’t fight the Word Demon. Its talent is soul invasion, making it immensely powerful here. You’re the master of this place. Only you can kill it!”

“How?” Ye Chui asked.

“What do you need to counter a mental invasion?” Jarvis turned to Ye Chui, his damaged helmet revealing mechanical parts and flickering runes, giving him a blend of magical puppet and robot. He patted Ye Chui’s shoulder with a heavy hand. “You know what to do!”

With a bellow, Jarvis charged at the Word Demon, sword raised!

Screech—

A silver car skidded to a stop beside Ye Chui. Dom Toretto, at the wheel, had found a vehicle as ordered.

But…

“A Wuling Hongguang?”

In a Hollywood monster-chase car scene, you bring a Wuling Hongguang?

“No time to hesitate, get in!” Dom’s bald head poked out, urging Ye Chui.

“…” Grudgingly, Ye Chui climbed into the flashy silver minivan.

The car sped down the highway.

Traffic was jammed due to the devil’s chaos, but for a *Fast and Furious* ace like Dom, this was nothing. The Wuling Hongguang weaved through with electrifying speed, pulling off daring manoeuvres. Even when it flipped mid-air, it landed smoothly on all four wheels, continuing like a god of the racetrack…

Ye Chui, in the passenger seat, buckled up tightly, heart pounding. Ignoring the chaos, he tapped his iPad. His current points: 4,361.

Entering the forbidden zone had triggered a side quest: kill 300 ferocious beasts for 1,000 points. When Reisha was taken, Godo had already killed over 100 beasts, leaving Ye Chui with over 4,000 points. He spent 3,000 on an [Insight], leaving 1,000. His [Explosion is Justice] killed countless beasts, and with Godo and Debbie’s kills, he completed the quest, earning 1,000 more points.

Now he could use another random [Insight]!

He needed mental magic.

This was his mental world, and Jarvis had hinted that only mental magic could resist the devil’s invasion. But how to gain it?

Intermediate magic mentor mental attributes split into two: mental enhancement and advanced dream magic.

Movies and anime with mental invasion or control were plentiful—Professor X, Lelouch, Sharingan, *Inception*—but Ye Chui doubted their usefulness here.

Then it hit him.

In his iPad, movie gunfights became destruction spells.

Nuclear explosions became explosive spells.

Martial arts like Wind God Legs became wind spells.

Film and anime elements were adapted to fit this magical world.

So… what about a famous movie element: hacking? In this magical world, what would it become?

Given the iPad’s adaptation, there was one answer: mental invasion magic!

A hacking-themed movie could unlock powerful mental magic!

“If that’s the case, there’s one movie perfect for this…”

Ye Chui’s gaze settled on a title in his resource library.

*The Matrix*!
