He Yuehua did not speak. The two of them worked together to help Doctor Lin into his room. After laying him down on the bed, He Yuehua also sat on the edge of the bed, panting.
Just helping Doctor Lin into the lift and upstairs had already taken a lot of her strength.
Mother Lin felt sorry for her son and called out to him a few times. When she could not wake him, she said worriedly to He Yuehua, “Yuehua, A Jian drank so much, he will not get alcohol poisoning, will he?”
“Auntie, do not worry. This is not the first time Doctor Lin has been like this. He will be fine. Just let him sleep and wake up naturally tomorrow.”
After a pause, she added, “At most he will have a bit of a headache when he wakes up. Auntie can make him a cup of honey water then.”
“Does A Jian have honey at home?”
“Yes. I asked my mum to buy wild honey and she sent two jin to Doctor Lin. Last time he got drunk, I made him a cup of honey water. After drinking it, he felt much better.”
“Yuehua, it is a good thing you are here. Otherwise A Jian would have no one to look after him. That Doctor Zeng does not even bother with him.”
He Yuehua fell silent for a moment, then said, “Auntie, I love Doctor Lin, so I care about him and worry about him. I am willing to look after him.”
“Doctor Zeng has no feelings for Doctor Lin. They are just senior and junior. Without love, Doctor Zeng naturally would not care about Doctor Lin, and would not come to look after him when he is drunk.”
At this hour, Doctor Zeng would already be fast asleep, dreaming sweetly. She would not care whether Doctor Lin was drunk or not.
Mother Lin said, “Yes. Doctor Zeng does not love our A Jian at all, yet A Jian still does. Yuehua, we have seen how good you are to A Jian. In your uncle’s and my eyes, you are already our future daughter in law.”
“Do not worry. If A Jian dares not marry you, or dares to treat you badly, we will teach him a proper lesson.”
He Yuehua smiled. “Thank you, Auntie.”
“Auntie, it is late. I will go home now. If Doctor Lin cannot get up tomorrow morning, there is no need to wake him. Let him sleep properly. The clinic has us watching over it, so there is no need to worry.”
She had studied medicine. Although she was only a nurse, she had worked in the Lin family clinic for many years. Doctor Lin was not completely indifferent to her and had taught her some things. When Doctor Lin was not at the clinic and patients came to see a doctor, she would practise a little and see patients herself. There had never been any mistakes. As long as she diagnosed correctly and prescribed the right medicine, patients would recover quickly.
“It is so late. It is not safe for a girl like you to go back alone. How about not going back tonight and staying here for the night.”
Mother Lin urged her to stay. “A Jian has spare rooms here.”
Doctor Lin’s home had four bedrooms and two living rooms. He lived in one bedroom, one room was used as a study, and there were two guest rooms. When his parents came, they stayed in one guest room.
The other guest room was empty.
He Yuehua pretended to hesitate and said, “That would not be very appropriate. If people find out I stayed here overnight, they will gossip.”
“Who cares what others say. You and A Jian will get married sooner or later. You will be husband and wife. This will be your home too. You are just staying one night in your own home ahead of time. What is the problem.”
Her son was drunk like this and could not do anything anyway.
Even if He Yuehua stayed the night, the two of them would still be completely innocent.
“Yuehua, stay. If something happens to you on the way back, Auntie would feel guilty for the rest of her life. If A Jian wakes up and knows about it, he will blame me for not keeping you here.”
Mother Lin continued to persuade He Yuehua to stay.
Worrying about He Yuehua going home alone was one reason. Another reason was that she was worried her son might vomit later. She could not manage alone because she was old and did not have much strength.
The old man was sleeping like a pig and could not be woken no matter how much she tried.
It was better to keep He Yuehua. If something happened to her son, at least there would be someone to help.
Under Mother Lin’s persuasion, He Yuehua stayed.
