Ancestral Conquest Chapter 40

Three months later.

After returning to the border mountains, three months passed in a flash for Lin Yun.

During this time, acting alone, Lin Yun hunted nearly twenty magic crystals, ranging from third to fifth tier. Higher-tier demons were beyond his current strength to hunt.

Naturally, he encountered situations he couldn’t handle, like several fifth-tier demons or a sixth-tier demon, which he couldn’t defeat and had to flee.

Though he couldn’t win, escaping was no issue.

As for the haul, Lin Yun was quite satisfied.

If he had been in a five-person team, even if they hunted more demons in three months, splitting the crystals five ways might not have yielded as much.

During this time, Lin Yun encountered other teams but avoided them whenever possible.

Overall, teaming up had benefits and drawbacks, as did acting alone.

At this moment, Lin Yun was moving through the mountains, releasing his divine sense to monitor his surroundings.

The sun was setting, the forest dimming, and it was eerily quiet, with only insect chirps and his own footsteps audible.

Boom!

Suddenly, a disturbance broke the silence from nearby.

Four demons emerged from the side, surrounding Lin Yun from all directions.

When hidden, these demons were nearly impossible to detect, even with divine sense.

“A lone wretch, daring to venture into the border alone? You’ll be our dinner tonight, heh heh!” one demon let out a chilling laugh.

With that, the four demons raised their black palms, each forming a sinister red-and-black orb in their hands, brimming with considerable power.

The demons then hurled the orbs at Lin Yun from four different directions!

“Damn it!”

Lin Yun’s expression changed as his sword glowed brightly, a golden dragon phantom coiling around it.

This wasn’t the first time he’d been ambushed by multiple demons, but four at once was extremely tricky.

Boom!

Lin Yun swung his sword in a sweeping arc, blocking two orbs.

But the other two struck him hard from behind and the side.

The explosion left several wounds on Lin Yun’s body.

Though his Immortal Divine Body had strong defences, the demons’ strength was formidable, each equivalent to a Saint realm cultivator.

For Lin Yun, these surface wounds were like mere scratches on an ordinary person, causing little impact and healing quickly.

“Hm? Not dead?”

The four demons were astonished that Lin Yun was unharmed.

Taking such powerful attacks head-on and only sustaining minor injuries?

At that moment, a team rushed in from the side!

The six-person team immediately attacked the four demons.

Lin Yun had been preparing to find a chance to escape, but he hadn’t expected another team to show up.

Still, he remained cautious.

In the border mountains, banditry was rampant, and it wasn’t impossible that these people might intend to kill and rob him.

One of the team members approached Lin Yun.

“Are you alright, friend?” a burly, dark-skinned man asked.

“I’m fine,” Lin Yun replied.

“Good. Let’s deal with these four demons together. Don’t worry, we mean no harm,” the man said.

With that, he charged at one of the demons, launching an attack.

After a brief moment of thought, Lin Yun rushed into action as well.

Facing an unfamiliar team, he had to stay cautious, but if they intended to rob him, they’d likely wait for the demons to kill him first, weakening the demons and making it easier to profit.

With Lin Yun joining, it became seven against four.

For Lin Yun, facing any one of these demons alone was relatively easy; the trouble was being surrounded.

Now, he and the burly man were taking on one demon together.

In mere moments, Lin Yun killed the demon they were fighting.

The two then turned to attack the remaining three demons, joining the others in surrounding them.

Seeing the tide turn, the three demons fled in different directions.

In the end, only one escaped narrowly, while the other two were killed.

After the battle, the area was a mess, but the forest returned to silence.

“Haha, that was great!” The six-person team, having won, cheered happily.

The burly man approached Lin Yun again, smiling. “Friend, your strength is impressive. You’re only at early Saint realm, yet your power would make even ordinary Mysterious Saint realm cultivators wary.”

“You flatter me. I should thank you all for stepping in to help. We’re strangers, yet you were willing to act for me,” Lin Yun said, clasping his fists.

“No need for thanks. We were hunting demons and just lent a hand,” the burly man said warmly.

“Brother Wu, three magic crystals. Not a bad haul,” a thin man said, holding three crystals and grinning as he approached the burly man.

“Good. Divide them up. Give them to whoever’s turn it is,” the burly man nodded.

He then turned to Lin Yun. “Friend, you don’t mind if we split these three crystals, do you?”

“Of course not. Without you showing up, I’d have had to escape. I couldn’t have killed them or gotten any crystals,” Lin Yun said.

He could tell these people had no ill intentions toward him.

With their numerical advantage, if they wanted to rob him, they’d have acted already. Why bother talking so much?

As he’d noted, if they wanted to rob him, they could’ve let the demons kill him first, weakening them and saving themselves the trouble.

From this alone, Lin Yun was certain they meant him no harm.

Though the border mountains were dangerous, with many human teams engaging in banditry, not everyone was malicious. Some still held kindness.

Their intervention clearly came with the intent to save him.

“You’re reasonable, friend. You contributed to the fight. If you don’t mind, how about joining our team? Next battle, we’ll give you the first share of crystals,” the burly man invited.

“Join your team?” Lin Yun was taken aback.
