Previously, when Lin Yun fought the Young Lord of the Nether Palace for that beastman powerhouse’s corpse, he had already offended him mortally.
But then again, was Lin Yun in the wrong?
The whole affair started with that beastman corpse. Mu Li had set a clear condition: whoever could bring him a formation master would complete the deal with him.
It was an open transaction, one that anyone could take.
The Young Lord simply wanted to monopolise it, yet Lin Yun found a formation master first and secured the deal first. That was why the Young Lord directed his anger at Lin Yun.
Even earlier at the Myriad Treasures Pavilion, the Young Lord had barged into the private room, trying to bully Lin Yun with his status. Lin Yun had simply refused to yield, and that had enraged him.
After all, in this ancestral world, might makes right. The strong are justified, the weak are guilty. That is all there is to it.
“Let’s go. Next stop, Heart City,” Lin Yun said.
With that, the group headed straight for Heart City.
…
On the other side.
Only after the Young Lord of the Nether Palace and his dozens of subordinates had fled an extremely long distance did they finally slow down.
His face was still pale, his forehead covered in sweat, looking every bit like a man who had narrowly escaped death.
“Damn it, these beastmen are far too reckless. They act without any regard for consequences,” the Young Lord snarled viciously.
He took out a spiritual herb, swallowed it, and began healing his severe internal injuries.
Moments earlier, he had genuinely felt the threat of death. His five viscera and six bowels had cracked from the shock, and that was after his protective treasure armour had absorbed much of the damage. Otherwise, the consequences would have been even worse; a single punch might have been fatal.
Once the herb was down, the Young Lord turned with a dark expression to his subordinates.
“You useless idiots! When I told you to step up and block him, why didn’t you?” he roared, fury blazing in his eyes.
Only that Harmonisation Realm elder had stepped forward and taken one punch, only to be gravely wounded and spit blood.
“Young Lord, if we had gone up… we would have died for nothing,” the men replied helplessly.
The gap in strength was simply too vast. It filled them with overwhelming fear. They could not even withstand one punch; stepping forward meant certain death.
The old elder gave an awkward laugh. “Young Lord, I knew he wouldn’t dare kill you, but he would dare kill us. We are not afraid of sacrifice, yet pointless sacrifice is another matter.”
“I just can’t understand why that kid is on brotherhood terms with a beastman powerhouse like Mu Li. Why would Mu Li attack me for his sake? Why!!!” the Young Lord growled in frustration and unwillingness.
No matter how hard he racked his brains, he could not figure it out.
The fact that Mu Li would strike him for Lin Yun’s sake proved that Lin Yun and Mu Li shared an extraordinarily close relationship.
Wasn’t it just escorting a formation master to build an array for Mu Li? It was supposed to be nothing more than a transaction. How on earth did it turn into brotherhood?
“Young Lord, beastmen aren’t the sharpest. He was probably sweet-talked and brainwashed by that fellow, so now they call each other brothers and Mu Li risks his life for him,” the elder said.
“No matter what, I cannot swallow this insult!” The Young Lord clenched his fists, his gaze venomous and brimming with killing intent.
He had never suffered such a humiliating loss.
The elder beside him hurriedly added, “Young Lord, who knows whether that beastman Mu Li is still lingering in the Ancestral Heart Realm to protect him. For now, we should leave the Ancestral Heart Realm first. Beastmen often act impulsively without considering consequences. If we provoke him again, he really might kill us all. At worst, he can hide among the beastman tribes and never return here; even the Nether Palace would be powerless against him then.”
The elder continued, “Young Lord, in this old man’s humble opinion, we should return and thoroughly investigate that boy’s background first. Once we know everything, we can make proper plans.”
The Young Lord kept a grim face but reluctantly nodded. “Very well. Dig up every detail about this guy’s origins! I’m putting you in charge of this. Find out everything, no matter the cost!”
“Yes, this old servant will spare no effort!” The elder immediately agreed.
With that, they accelerated once more and raced towards the exit of the Ancestral Heart Realm.
…
On the other side.
Only after Lin Yun and his three companions returned to Heart City did they finally let out a complete sigh of relief.
