Ancestral Conquest Chapter 439

“Young Master, you must come back alive!” Zou Dongsheng could only pray silently.

On the other side.

Lin Yun picked a direction and kept walking on foot.

As he walked, he reviewed the techniques that elf powerhouse Cang Chen had used.

Cang Chen condensed his divine sense into physical form to attack him.

The elf race naturally possessed many offensive divine-sense secret manuals. Once learned, these allowed divine sense to be shaped into substantial skills, and such skills were naturally divided into different grades and levels of mastery.

Elves could not cultivate inner force at all. They relied solely on divine sense. After humans invented the soul-protecting pendant, the elves had no choice but to adapt with the times and push every possible application of divine sense to the absolute limit.

Today’s elf race placed particular emphasis on condensing substantial skills as their primary means of attack.

These divine-sense offensive manuals of the elves were almost never sold in human ancestral lands.

Divine sense had long declined among humans. No one bothered developing divine-sense techniques; humans focused entirely on things related to inner force.

Moreover, divine-sense skill manuals from within elf territory were completely unavailable for purchase in human lands or the Ancestral Heart Realm. The elves most likely forbade any leakage of such knowledge beyond their borders.

Lin Yun’s current divine-sense realm was Origin Return level.

By his estimation, an elf with Origin Return divine sense could, through that realm alone, unleash strength equivalent to a human saint-realm cultivator.

The tiers of divine sense were: Origin Return, Boundless, Creation, Ultimate.

Thus, Boundless corresponded to Heaven Connecting realm, Creation to Void Dao realm, and Ultimate to Supreme.

Of course, each divine-sense tier was further divided into nine minor stages.

Under the same overall tier, elves were slightly weaker than humans because of limitations in their attack methods.

For example, a first-stage Origin Return elf corresponded to an Early Saint human cultivator, but that elf would still be somewhat weaker than the human.

The elf powerhouse who had attacked Lin Yun earlier probably only possessed first-stage Ultimate divine sense.

“If a human cultivator could train divine sense to the Ultimate realm, they could already unleash Supreme-level power using divine sense alone. If that person were also a Supreme in cultivation realm, adding Ultimate-level divine sense to their attacks would produce utterly terrifying might!” Lin Yun marvelled inwardly.

Yet for a human to reach that level of divine sense was practically impossible.

Thanks to their innate racial advantage, elves found cultivating divine sense far easier than humans. Even so, only a rare few elves ever reached the Ultimate realm, just as rare as humans reaching Supreme.

For humans, the difficulty was many times greater. Reaching that height was almost unimaginable.

This was one of the main reasons divine-sense cultivation had declined among humans: it was simply too hard, and the effort vastly outweighed the reward. It was far better to focus on inner force.

Each race had its strengths: humans with inner force, elves with divine sense, beastmen with physical bodies. Gathering all those advantages in one person was virtually impossible.

After walking for half a day, Lin Yun finally discovered a path.

He decided to follow it. The path was narrow and dilapidated; it looked seldom used.

He travelled along it for roughly one full day before he finally encountered a small elf squad overtaking him from behind.

Lin Yun immediately moved to block them and ask for directions.

Truthfully, he was not entirely confident his elven disguise would hold up at close range.

From a distance it would definitely pass, but up close he had no idea.

When the squad saw someone blocking the road, they grew extremely wary.

“Who’s ahead? Why are you blocking the way?” the middle-aged elf leading the group asked.

“Fellows, I’ve lost my way here and wanted to ask for directions,” Lin Yun said first.

“Asking directions? Where are you headed?” the middle-aged elf asked.

“Uh…” Lin Yun was momentarily stumped.

He had no idea where he was supposed to go.

“May I ask where you gentlemen are headed?” Lin Yun countered.

“That’s none of your concern. If you want directions, just name the place and I’ll tell you,” the middle-aged elf replied guardedly.

“In that case, what is the nearest city from here?” Lin Yun asked.

If he wanted an elf-race map, he would certainly have to reach a city to buy one.

“Keep going straight along this road. After about ten days on foot, you’ll reach a city,” the middle-aged elf answered.
