The whole of Yan City was vast in scale, bustling with life. After entering the city, Wen Jing led Lin Yun to a grand mansion.
“What business do you have here?” The guards at the gate immediately blocked the pair.
“I have come to see Uncle Han.”
Wen Jing produced a jade pendant, the token her father had entrusted to her.
The guard took it, muttered “Wait here,” and went inside to report.
Soon afterwards, the guard returned.
“Please follow me, both of you.” His attitude had clearly softened.
Under the guard’s guidance, they entered the mansion and reached the guest hall.
“The master is inside the hall. Go in.” With that, the guard turned and departed.
Lin Yun and Wen Jing entered the guest hall.
Seated there was a tall, imposing middle-aged man in brocade robes.
“Wen Jing, the last time I saw you, you were only a few years old. Who would have thought that in the blink of an eye you would have grown into such a graceful young lady.” The man rose warmly.
“Uncle Han, my father and the others… they…” At the sight of a familiar face, Wen Jing could no longer hold back, and tears poured down.
“I have already learned of your Wen family’s misfortune. The Chasing Wind Sect is truly vile, but their power is great. I cannot avenge your father.” The middle-aged man shook his head with a sigh.
He walked over to Wen Jing. “Wen Jing, your father was my dearest friend. In my weaker days, without his help I would not be where I am today. Though I cannot confront the Chasing Wind Sect, protecting you poses no difficulty. I have close ties with the city lord. Now that you are here with your Uncle Han, you may rest easy. Powerful though the Chasing Wind Sect may be, they dare not cause major upheaval in Yan City. Yan City is a principal city of the Sea Wind Empire.”
“Thank you, Uncle Han.” Wen Jing wiped away her tears.
Having arrived here, her helpless heart settled considerably.
“Uncle Han will properly nurture your cultivation from now on. Set your mind at ease.” The man patted her shoulder gently.
“By the way, Wen Jing, who is this gentleman? Is he also from the Wen family?” The man turned to Lin Yun.
“No, Uncle Han. On my flight to Yan City, the Chasing Wind Sect pursued me. He rescued me and drove off several of their men. I did not know him before.” Wen Jing explained.
“I see. Friend, I am Han Gaofeng. May I ask your esteemed name?” The man said.
“Lin Yun.” Lin Yun replied.
“Friend Lin Yun, thank you for lending aid.” Han Gaofeng cupped his fists towards Lin Yun.
“You are too courteous. It was merely something I did in passing.” Lin Yun said calmly.
“Yet by injuring men of the Chasing Wind Sect, you have invited trouble upon yourself. Why not remain in my mansion and lie low for a time? It would spare you their vengeance. This place is safe.” Han Gaofeng offered.
“Thank you for your kindness, but I have no fear of this Chasing Wind Sect.” Lin Yun replied.
Han Gaofeng paused in surprise. “No fear? Friend Lin Yun, do you truly comprehend the Chasing Wind Sect?”
“I do not, nor do I need to.” Lin Yun answered.
“Since you lack understanding, such words seem rather overconfident. To the Chasing Wind Sect, dealing with you would be as simple as crushing an ant.” Han Gaofeng said.
“Rest assured. Should the Chasing Wind Sect truly seek to destroy me, I fear the Chasing Wind Sect itself would cease to exist.” Lin Yun stated.
Though Han Gaofeng tried to restrain himself, he could not help laughing.
He felt the young man before him was simply far too boastful.
“Since you have no intention of staying, I shall not press you. Still, you would do well to go out and inquire what manner of power the Chasing Wind Sect wields. Should you learn the stakes and wish to seek refuge, you may return here at any time.” Han Gaofeng said.
“Thank you. I shall take my leave now.”
With that, Lin Yun turned and walked out.
“Big brother, let me see you off.” Wen Jing hurried after him.
Once Wen Jing had left the hall, Han Gaofeng immediately gave a meaningful glance to a nearby subordinate.
Outside the guest hall.
“Big brother, perhaps you should stay here and hide for a while. Wait until the danger passes before leaving. The Chasing Wind Sect is truly formidable, and they bear grudges fiercely.” Wen Jing said earnestly.
“There is truly no need. Stay here with peace of mind.” Lin Yun smiled faintly.
