After Lin Yun finished speaking, he turned and walked out.
“Big brother, you saved my life. How… how should I repay you?” Wen Jing raised her head and looked at his departing back.
“Don’t be foolish. I don’t need repayment, and you don’t need to remember me. This world is, to me, nothing more than a temporary stop.”
Lin Yun spoke without looking back.
After leaving the mansion, Lin Yun found a large shop in the city. He bought a complete map of this world and gathered more information about it.
Evening.
Inside the Han residence.
An old man led a group of people in blue robes as they stormed into the compound.
Wen Jing was in the courtyard. When she saw the intruders, terror drained the colour from her face.
These were people from the Chasing Wind Sect. Even the hawk-nosed man who had pursued her before was among them.
“Little girl, you thought you could run? Do you really believe you can escape our grasp?” The hawk-nosed man lunged forward, seized Wen Jing, and began groping her.
“Ahhh!”
“Uncle Han, help me!”
Wen Jing cried out in panic.
Moments later, Han Gaofeng hurried into the courtyard.
“Third Elder, what brings you here in person?” Seeing the old man, Han Gaofeng immediately put on an obsequious smile and bowed.
“Some blind fool dared to injure a member of our Chasing Wind Sect. Naturally, I had to come myself.” The elder stood with his hands clasped behind his back, radiating arrogance.
“I know the fellow you mentioned. He was indeed extremely arrogant.” Han Gaofeng gave an awkward laugh.
Wen Jing, who had been hoping Han Gaofeng would save her, felt her heart plummet into despair at the sight.
“Uncle Han… you…” Her face was ashen.
“Wen Jing, do you understand what the Chasing Wind Sect is? How could I possibly afford to offend them? You must not blame me.” Han Gaofeng said.
“But… my father showed you great kindness.” Wen Jing protested bitterly.
“Your father is dead. What use is there in bringing that up now? Yes, he did help me greatly in the past, but people cannot live forever in the past. We must look to the future. The wise know when to yield.” Han Gaofeng stood with his hands behind his back.
At these words, Wen Jing closed her eyes in despair. A single tear slid down her cheek.
Her father had trusted the wrong person. He had placed his faith in the wrong man.
Very well. She would join her father and the rest of her family in the underworld.
“Han Gaofeng, you said you met that boy. Where is he now?” the Chasing Wind Sect elder demanded.
“Elder, I had intended to keep him here so I could hand him over to your sect when you arrived. But he was utterly brazen. He claimed he did not fear the Chasing Wind Sect at all. He is probably still in the city, most likely staying at an inn. Oh yes, his name is Lin Yun.” Han Gaofeng replied.
“Hmph. An arrogant fool. When I find him, I will make him regret being born.” The elder snorted coldly.
The elder had never heard the name Lin Yun. There was clearly no such figure of note in the Haifeng Empire. How dare a nobody act so insolently?
He turned to the hawk-nosed man. “Zhou Kuan, stay here and keep watch over her. Once I locate that boy, we will deal with them both.”
“Yes, Elder!”
The hawk-nosed man grinned lewdly.
“Big brother, I’m sorry. I have brought this upon you…” Wen Jing thought, her heart filled with despair and pain.
With the Third Elder of the Chasing Wind Sect personally involved, she knew Lin Yun would be killed.
…
In an inn in Yan City.
Lin Yun had finished studying the map and materials he had purchased.
From them, he concluded that this world was roughly the same size as the Cultivation Continent.
In its history, other races had once dominated it.
Still, Lin Yun had found no clue or method to return home.
He decided to rest for the night, then head straight to the capital of the Haifeng Empire the next day. He would seek an audience with the emperor and see whether he could learn anything useful.
“Hm? Movement?”
Lin Yun frowned.
The next instant, the door to his room was smashed open.
An old man, followed by several people in blue robes, burst in.
Lin Yun recognised those blue robes at once. They were the same uniform worn by the earlier members of the Chasing Wind Sect.
“The Chasing Wind Sect is quite capable. You actually tracked me down, and so quickly.” Lin Yun narrowed his eyes.
