“Young man, you are the one who injured a member of our Chasing Wind Sect, are you not? Your name is Lin Yun?” The elder stood with his hands clasped behind his back, looking Lin Yun up and down.
Lin Yun leaned back in his chair. “Yes, it was me. Did your subordinates not pass on my warning? Do not come seeking revenge, or you will bear the consequences. Offending me is something your Chasing Wind Sect cannot afford.”
“A nameless nobody like you dares to spout such nonsense. Today I will tear you into ten thousand pieces.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the elder struck out fiercely with a palm towards Lin Yun.
“You are courting your own suffering.”
Lin Yun flicked his hand casually. A powerful surge of force instantly blasted outwards.
When the surge collided with the elder’s palm strike, the elder’s expression changed dramatically. His whole body was hurled backwards. He crashed heavily into the wall of the room.
Boom.
The wall was instantly smashed open with a large hole. The Chasing Wind Sect elder flew straight out of the room and plummeted onto the street outside the inn, smashing a crater into the ground.
The blue-robed followers he had brought with him were stunned into silence by the sight.
Their elder had been crushed in a single instant.
Lin Yun leapt out through the hole in the wall and landed on the street outside.
The huge commotion immediately drew a crowd of onlookers.
“Who is that? Someone was just blasted out of the inn onto the street.”
“Look at that red-collared blue robe. That appears to be an elder of the Chasing Wind Sect.”
“What? Someone actually dared to attack a Chasing Wind Sect elder?”
Everyone knew perfectly well that the Chasing Wind Sect was one of the top three powers in the empire.
The sect had always been ruthless in its actions. Even the other major forces in the empire dared not lightly provoke it.
Who was bold enough to lay hands on a grand elder of the Chasing Wind Sect? Was this not simply courting death?
While the onlookers exclaimed in shock, Lin Yun descended directly in front of the fallen elder.
“You… you…”
The elder spat mouthfuls of blood. His face was deathly pale as he glared fixedly at Lin Yun.
Unfathomably deep. Terrifying beyond measure.
That was the impression Lin Yun gave him after that single strike.
Heavens. How could such an expert appear within the empire?
With strength like this, he should long ago have been famous throughout the land. Yet the elder had never even heard of him.
“You are fortunate. I have no intention of killing anyone.” Lin Yun looked down at the elder.
As he spoke, he extended his divine sense to envelop the man and began probing his memories.
Of everyone Lin Yun had encountered in this world so far, this elder was likely the strongest. Lin Yun therefore intended to search through his memories to see whether anything useful could be found.
When he did so, a fearsome chill instantly surged within Lin Yun’s pitch-black eyes.
“You captured Wen Jing?” Lin Yun reached down and hauled the elder up from the ground by his collar.
The elder, who usually lorded over others with great authority, was now held in Lin Yun’s grasp like a helpless chicken.
From the memories he had scanned, Lin Yun already knew that Wen Jing had been seized.
This filled him with great anger.
“Yes, we… we took her. What of it?” The elder struggled to maintain his composure.
“Did your subordinates not inform you? I said that I would protect Wen Jing. By doing this, you are walking straight to your own deaths.” Fury blazed in Lin Yun’s eyes.
“Our Chasing Wind Sect can kill whomever we please. You cannot protect her. Furthermore, if you dare to kill me, you will not survive the consequences. The Chasing Wind Sect will spare no effort to hunt you down and destroy you.” The elder’s words carried heavy threat.
Clearly, the backing of his sect gave him confidence.
Lin Yun’s gaze hardened. “You are mistaken. The price of that mistake is your life.”
As the words left his mouth, Lin Yun tightened his grip.
The elder’s neck snapped instantly.
The man died before he could even react.
His eyes remained wide open in death. Perhaps, in his final moment, he realised how gravely he had misjudged.
Lin Yun had not planned to kill anyone after arriving in this realm. However, they had crossed his bottom line.
Since he had declared that he would protect Wen Jing, he would see it through.
Immediately afterwards, Lin Yun lifted the elder’s corpse and headed straight for the Han residence.
In his blazing anger, a number of people were destined to pay with their lives today.
Earlier, when Lin Yun had gone to purchase maps and information, he had not bothered to inquire about the nature of the Chasing Wind Sect, because he had seen no need.
