Ancestral Conquest Chapter 598

Earlier, when Lin Yun went to purchase maps and intelligence, he had not investigated what sort of power the Chasing Wind Sect was, because he saw no need.

As a supreme being, Lin Yun could not possibly fear anyone in this world.

Even annihilating the entire world would require nothing more than a single thought from him. He simply would not do it.

Anyone who truly provoked his anger, no matter how vast their background, authority, or strength in this world, could be destroyed by him in an instant.

Yet, from the memories he had just scanned in the Chasing Wind Sect elder, Lin Yun had learned some facts about the sect.

The Chasing Wind Sect ranked among the top three powers in the Haifeng Empire. In truth, it had the Haifeng Emperor himself as its backing.

It presented itself as a civilian organisation, but it had actually been nurtured by the Haifeng Empire to handle, in the civilian sphere, certain matters that the empire found inconvenient to address directly.

This was unknown to the overwhelming majority of ordinary imperial citizens.

Had Lin Yun not probed the elder’s memories, he would never have discovered it.

Regrettably, he still found no trace, in those memories, of any clue that might lead him back to his ancestral realm.

“Heavens above. A grand elder of the Chasing Wind Sect, openly slain in the street like that? That… that was an elder of the Chasing Wind Sect!”

“Who in the world is that man?”

Every onlooker in the street wore an expression of utter disbelief.

Lin Yun had taken only a few steps, carrying the elder’s corpse, when a squad of city guards on nearby patrol arrived in response to the commotion.

“Stop right there!”

The guards instantly surrounded Lin Yun.

“Young man, did you kill the corpse you are holding?” the guard captain demanded.

“Is there a problem with that?” Lin Yun asked.

“Fighting is forbidden on the streets of Yan City. You have committed open murder in the street, gravely violating imperial law. This is a capital crime. Kneel at once and surrender without resistance!” The captain levelled his weapon at Lin Yun.

The captain had also recognised the dead man in Lin Yun’s grasp as apparently the Chasing Wind Sect elder.

He knew perfectly well that anyone able to slay such an elder must be extraordinarily powerful.

Yet, with the full weight of the empire behind them, he felt no fear.

“I am afraid your laws do not bind me. Not you lot, nor even if the Haifeng Emperor of your Haifeng Empire arrived in person. He would not dare to convict me of any offence. Stand aside.” Lin Yun’s voice was cold as ice.

“What brazen nerve. What outrageous arrogance. You dare show such contempt for His Majesty!” the captain bellowed.

“Get out of my way.”

Lin Yun’s gaze hardened. His roar exploded like thunder.

With the roar came a surge of wrath that swept forth like a towering tidal wave.

Beneath the roar and the fury, the guards’ legs buckled. They collapsed to the ground, unable to control themselves.

Even the surrounding onlookers felt as if they had suddenly fallen into an abyss of eternal ice. Their bodies shook uncontrollably.

How could mortals withstand the anger of a supreme being?

Lin Yun strode straight past them and made directly for the Han residence.

Only after he departed did that dreadful pressure finally lift.

The guards sprawled on the ground felt their bodies go numb. Their underclothes were drenched in cold sweat.

“Quickly, we must return and report to the city lord!” the captain urged.

The squad departed at once.

“This fellow committed open murder in the street. I wonder how the city lord will deal with it once he knows.”

“He managed to kill a Chasing Wind Sect elder, so his strength is clearly formidable. But even with such power, defying imperial law is a road to ruin. Could he possibly stand against the entire empire?”

“Come on, let’s head to the Han residence and watch.”

Many onlookers streamed towards the Han residence, eager to see how events would unfold.

Wherever one went, people’s fondness for spectacle never changed.

The city lord’s mansion.

A guard rushed to the city lord’s mansion at top speed and reported the incident to the lord of Yan City.

Bang.

Upon hearing the news, the city lord slammed the table and rose to his feet. “What audacity. Daring to run amok in my Yan City.”

The city lord knew full well that, with the Chasing Wind Sect involved, he could not afford to show leniency.

“Assemble the city guards immediately!” the city lord ordered.

The Han residence.

In the courtyard.

The hawk-nosed man was forcing himself upon Wen Jing right there in the open.

Wen Jing struggled with all her might. Her piercing, despairing cries echoed throughout the entire Han mansion.
