Ancestral Conquest Chapter 9

“The Heavenly Fire Temple is one of the three top forces in the Northern Flame Domain, renowned far and wide. It’s not surprising that people fear us when we wear the temple’s armour,” Old Black said.

This explanation sounded reasonable.

Yet Lin Yun still felt something was off. Even if the Heavenly Fire Temple was powerful and inspired awe, it shouldn’t make people *this* afraid.

“Captain Lin Yun, if you’re not used to it, we can take off the armour,” Old Black suggested.

“Alright.”

Lin Yun nodded and removed his Heavenly Fire Lieutenant armour.

Sure enough, after they took off their armour and walked a bit further, the situation changed. They blended into the crowd, appearing no different from ordinary people, no longer drawing attention.

The two arrived at a street.

The entire street was lined with stalls where many cultivators were selling various resources, creating a lively atmosphere.

“Captain Lin Yun, most of the stuff sold here isn’t worth much, but occasionally, you can find treasures or even score a bargain,” Old Black said.

“Really?” Lin Yun’s interest was piqued upon hearing this.

Having just arrived in the ancestral land, Lin Yun was short on funds. Finding a bargain would be a delightful opportunity.

So, Lin Yun and Old Black began strolling along the street.

Lin Yun carefully observed the items on both sides, looking for anything valuable.

After a while of browsing, a voice caught Lin Yun’s attention.

“A rare treasure, the Shadowless Jade Pendant, for sale at a low price! Wearing this item conceals your aura and evades divine sense detection, even from Transcendent Realm experts!”

A bearded man was hawking a treasure, successfully drawing Lin Yun’s interest.

“How much for this Shadowless Jade Pendant?” Lin Yun asked, approaching the bearded man.

“This is a family heirloom, worth one million Bright Moon Crystals. But because my family is in trouble and urgently needs money, I’m selling it for seven hundred thousand!” the bearded man said.

“Seven hundred thousand?” Lin Yun pondered.

As a Death Squad member, Lin Yun had received three million Bright Moon Crystals as a reward, so seven hundred thousand was affordable, but it was still a significant expense.

“Friend, this is already well below market price. I’m only offering it this low because I need to sell quickly. If you’re sincere, I’ll go as low as six hundred fifty thousand, my final price,” the bearded man said.

“Can I take a look first?” Lin Yun asked, eyeing the Shadowless Jade Pendant in his hand.

“Of course!”

The bearded man smiled and handed the pendant to Lin Yun.

Lin Yun took the pendant and inspected it, finding no issues.

“Old Black, what do you think of the price?” Lin Yun turned to Old Black.

“I’m not too familiar with the current market, but it’s probably below market value. If you need a functional treasure like this, it’s worth buying,” Old Black said.

Lin Yun nodded.

“Alright, I’ll take this Shadowless Jade Pendant.” Lin Yun took out a storage ring containing seven hundred thousand Bright Moon Crystals.

“Daddy, you can’t sell it!”

A young woman suddenly rushed over, crying.

“Daddy, this is the only treasure Grandpa left you. You can’t sell it!” The young woman grabbed the bearded man’s arm, sobbing heartbrokenly.

“Daughter, it’s not that I’m heartless, but if I don’t sell this Shadowless Jade Pendant, we have no other way to raise money. If we don’t get the money, those debt collectors will really take our lives,” the bearded man said, his eyes reddening.

“You’d rather sell your daughter than Grandpa’s pendant! Father, we still have a few days. Please, let’s find another way. I beg you!” The young woman fell to her knees, crying.

The bearded man could only nod, then turned to Lin Yun.

“Friend, I’m not selling this Shadowless Jade Pendant anymore. Please give it back,” the bearded man said, extending his hand.

“Alright.”

After a brief pause, Lin Yun returned the pendant to him.

Every family has its struggles, and since the man wasn’t selling, Lin Yun wouldn’t insist.

“Old Black, let’s go.”

After returning the pendant, Lin Yun turned to leave with Old Black.

“I wonder what kind of trouble that family is in,” Lin Yun sighed.

“Captain Lin Yun, there are too many people with troubles in this world. No one can help them all,” Old Black said.

They had only walked a short distance when a voice called out from behind.

“Young hero! Young hero!”

Lin Yun turned to see the bearded man again.

“Is there something else?” Lin Yun asked.

“Young hero, my family desperately needs money to get through this crisis. I’ll sell you the pendant for six hundred fifty thousand. I’m doing this behind my daughter’s back, so let’s make it quick before she notices,” the bearded man said urgently.

“Since your family is in trouble, let’s stick with the original price of seven hundred thousand.”

Lin Yun handed over a storage ring containing seven hundred thousand Bright Moon Crystals.

“Thank you, friend! Thank you!”

“Here’s the item.”

The bearded man thanked Lin Yun profusely, took the storage ring, and handed the Shadowless Jade Pendant to Lin Yun.

After Lin Yun received the pendant, the bearded man said, “Friend, I need to hurry back before my daughter catches up. I’ll take my leave.”

With that, the bearded man rushed off.

“He must really be in some urgent trouble,” Lin Yun said, storing the Shadowless Jade Pendant.

Lin Yun had only taken a few steps when a voice called out.

“Please wait, friend!”

A refined young man stepped in front of Lin Yun.

“What is it, friend?” Lin Yun asked politely, smiling at the stranger.

“Friend, the pendant you just bought is fake. The seller hasn’t gone far, so hurry and chase him down. He’s a scammer, and you’ve been tricked,” the young man warned.

“Fake?”

Lin Yun was shocked and immediately took out the Shadowless Jade Pendant to inspect it closely.

“Damn it, it’s a counterfeit! He switched it!” Lin Yun’s expression darkened.

He quickly turned around, releasing his divine sense to track the father and daughter.

“Damn, he’s wearing the real Shadowless Jade Pendant. My divine sense can’t locate him!” Lin Yun gritted his teeth.

“Friend, they went that way. Hurry and chase them, you might still catch up!” The young man who warned Lin Yun pointed in a direction.

“Thank you, friend!”

With that, Lin Yun dashed off in that direction, with Old Black close behind.

Lin Yun now understood that the father and daughter had put on a sob story to distract him.
