Code Mage Chapter 26

Ryan is a middle-aged man, which means he has been a magic book wielder for many years, perhaps even longer than Ye Chui’s age. Many people know he is a wind-element mage, and his wind magic ranks among the top in the entire Stan Town. He is a powerful and dangerous mage, and with his position as the vice-president of the Bullhead Magic Guild, it has been a long time since anyone dared to openly defy him, let alone challenge him.

Moreover, the one challenging him is a rookie who has only been awakened for ten days!

Perhaps this rookie has some unique qualities. He just defeated another novice mage, but what does that prove?

“Wade is actually preparing to face Ryan alone? Is he tired of living?”

All the people around, even those who had begun to change their views about Ye Chui being a useless mage, felt disbelief. Even Cass, the town mayor who had witnessed Ye Chui defeat Camis and held him in high esteem, found this moment utterly astonishing.

“Don’t interfere. This kid is mine!” Ryan, furious, revealed a ferocious sneer. His snake-like eyes narrowed, emitting a dangerous aura.

Meili and Tatak exchanged glances and stepped back a few paces, looking at Ye Chui as if he were already a dead man.

Riken, who had been lying on the ground, struggled to his feet. Having learned what had just happened, his face showed utter shock. With a look of defeat, he glanced at Ye Chui before moving to join the onlookers.

The battle began quickly.

Ryan’s magic book had a green cover. With the rustling sound of pages turning, a fierce wind began to swirl around his body. His black robe, embroidered with a bullhead pattern, billowed. Some people standing too close sensed danger and started retreating. Swoosh. The air seemed to twist as a crescent-shaped wind blade shot through the air towards Ye Chui.

This was the wind-element attack spell [Wind Blade].

Pop.

A shield of light appeared in front of Ye Chui, blocking the wind blade attack. [Guardian of Safety]. Ye Chui staggered a few steps, his fingers lightly tapping the screen. Zzzt! A spear of lightning shot out towards Ryan, a low-level [Lightning Strike] using 5% of his magic power.

In Ye Chui’s vision, the white targeting frame on his iPad magic book screen had fully locked onto Ryan. But as the lightning spear reached Ryan, he moved lightly and easily dodged it.

Crack. The lightning hit the ground, scorching the bluestone surface black, with wisps of smoke rising.

“Wind-element magic greatly enhances a mage’s speed. It seems to be true. This is the basic auxiliary spell [Wind Walk],” Ye Chui said with some amazement. After days of practice with his [Target Lock] camera function, he could hit the fast-moving, now-slimmer Xiululu, forced by his unscrupulous master Debbie, with perfect accuracy. Yet he still couldn’t hit Ryan, who was using wind-element magic.

Looking at the marks left by Ye Chui’s attack, a strange glint flashed in Ryan’s eyes. He hadn’t expected Ye Chui to know a basic lightning-element attack spell. That attack was dangerous, and though he dodged it, it still felt somewhat risky. It seemed he needed to take this more seriously.

Zzzt.

Another lightning spear shot from Ye Chui’s magic book. Ryan, like an ever-present wind, dodged it effortlessly once again. But no one thought Ye Chui’s attack was useless, as many realised his strikes were highly precise. If the target hadn’t been Ryan, aided by the [Wind Walk] spell, they might not have dodged so easily.

Of course, not dodging didn’t mean they couldn’t block. Ye Chui’s attacks didn’t seem particularly powerful. What surprised people was his control over the spells.

Knowing powerful spells is like acquiring a weapon, but strength often lies not in possessing the weapon but in knowing how to use it. Hitting others with spells requires rigorous training.

Yet Ye Chui, awakened for only ten days, not only had mastered so many spells but also showed such precision. How could he achieve this?

“Challenging Ryan is still a reckless act. I still don’t believe he has the slightest chance of winning, but his fighting style is too shocking. This boy is not simple,” an experienced mage sincerely remarked.

Meili and Tatak exchanged another glance. They weren’t worried about Ryan. As the second-in-command of the Bullhead Magic Guild, there was no reason he couldn’t handle Ye Chui. They were just surprised by Ye Chui and felt pity. Such a promising talent, yet he was seeking his own doom.

Meili, exuding a bold and striking aura, suddenly turned her gaze to Debbie, who was standing nearby. Earlier, Debbie had stood by Ye Chui’s side, placing herself in opposition to the Bullhead Magic Guild.

Rumours of a young female summoner recently appearing in Stan Town had reached Meili. Summoners are powerful and noble, but this girl didn’t seem to fit that mould. After all, apart from Cass and Merlin, no one knew about Ye Chui, Debbie, and Camis’s battle in the graveyard.

The only summoner skills Debbie had shown publicly were her clown spirit performance at the mercenary guild hall, which was reportedly quite comical.

Some had seen her arguing with her magical pet on the street or being chased by her butler spirit wielding a kitchen knife and a rice bowl. (P.S. Debbie’s daily life.)

In short, she exuded an utterly quirky and unreliable vibe.

Such a summoner naturally posed no threat in Meili’s eyes.

So, she quietly exchanged a look with Tatak. With a light wave of her hand, a blue-covered magic book appeared beside her. Smiling seductively, she walked towards Debbie.

Basic attack spell [Daze].

Debbie was focused on watching Ye Chui and Ryan’s battle, still munching on beef jerky. Sensing something, she turned to see Meili approaching. A smug, defiant smile appeared on the little girl’s face. “Hmm? You’re a mental mage!”

Among the nine attributes of magic, mental is relatively rare, and mental mages are often the most dangerous.

Debbie swallowed her food hard, looked at Meili, and continued arrogantly, “Mental spells may be a great threat to others, extremely hard to defend against, but for us summoners, they’re child’s play. Our minds are like impregnable fortresses, unyielding. We absolutely won’t fall for them easily.”

Then, with a thud, Debbie swayed, spun in a circle, and collapsed to the ground, snoring loudly.

“…Huh?”

Meili was instantly dumbfounded. She had only attacked slightly. How did this summoner girl fall for it so easily?
