Code Mage Chapter 28

On the square in front of the Mercenary Guild, Ye Chui was relentlessly punching and kicking Ryan. The scene was indescribably brutal, yet the onlookers felt as if they were dreaming, unable to believe what they were witnessing.

Ryan, a figure undoubtedly among the top mages in Stan Town, was being beaten up, and by someone awakened for only ten days!? If they hadn’t seen it with their own eyes, who would believe it?

Moreover, young man, you’re supposed to be an elegant mage. How can you be so violent?

What shocked them most was Ye Chui’s magic book. Light element, lightning element, water element, and now… wind element? My goodness, you’re not a tri-element mage but a quad-element one!?

Do you have to be so overpowered? You’ll easily end up friendless like this!

Perhaps due to sheer shock, almost everyone stood frozen, as if stripped of all ability to act. Ryan, clearly dazed by the beating, had no chance to fight back.

At that moment, a sharp, frenzied shout rang out, “Stop it!” It was Tatak, the first to react. The man with golden hair, exuding a wild aura, had already drawn his magic book.

His magic book had a green cover. He quickly flipped to a page and released a spell.

The next moment, a loud “boom” echoed. Ye Chui felt a fiery explosion beside him. His body was struck by a powerful force, sending him crashing to the ground. His ears began to ring, reminding him of his childhood in his previous life when a friend played a prank, setting off a firecracker near his ear. It startled him, and for a long time afterward, his ears kept buzzing.

He tried to get up but realised his right arm felt broken, utterly powerless. Blood streamed down, and searing pain flooded his heart. His iPad magic book had vanished, returning to his body. Hissing in pain, he struggled to sit up, eyes wide, staring at Tatak, who had just attacked him.

“This… is an explosion?” A thought flashed in his mind, and Ye Chui showed a look of utter astonishment.

Explosion magic!

Magic has nine elemental attributes, which are the basic attributes. Most mages can only master a single element, but some magic books awaken dual or even triple attributes, or more.

When a mage’s skill is advanced enough, they can fuse multiple attributes into a new composite attribute. For example, wind and water elements can form ice magic, earth and water can form swamp magic. Explosion magic, however, is a fusion of fire and lightning elements.

Among the nine elemental attributes, fire and lightning are inherently the most aggressive. Their fused magic is, naturally, immensely powerful.

Tatak was a rare explosion mage!

The spell he had just used on Ye Chui was an explosion spell.

“Aaaargh!”

A cold, furious roar suddenly erupted. It was Ryan, climbing to his feet. His meticulously styled white hair was now a mess, a cut on his forehead bled, and one eye was swollen, making him look utterly dishevelled.

As a powerful and highly respected mage, his current state was nothing short of a lifelong disgrace. It fuelled an unprecedented rage. If he had been injured by a stronger mage or swordsman, he might have accepted it. But the one who hurt him was a rookie mage he despised, treated like an ant, and saw as a mere game!

Unacceptable! Unforgivable! Unpardonable!

His magic book floated before him, its pages flipping with a crisp, terrifying sound. A fierce wind swirled around him, making some nearby spectators struggle to stand. The bright sky seemed to darken. Ryan advanced toward Ye Chui step by step, his face cold and ferocious in the wind.

Mid-level attack magic [Fury of the Storm].

“To deal with a mage awakened for only ten days, Ryan is using mid-level magic!” someone exclaimed.

Those who cared about Ye Chui, like Los and Harley, showed tense expressions. But against Ryan’s attack, swordsmen and mages of their level could do nothing. Cass, the town mayor standing at the crowd’s edge, gripped the hilt of the greatsword on his back, a flicker of hesitation on his face.

Though he was the mayor, he wasn’t the ultimate authority in town. The guild leaders and mercenary captains held significant influence. If he intervened now, it would mean openly opposing the Bullhead Magic Guild. Ye Chui’s earlier beating of Ryan was excessive, and the guild would surely see him as a mortal enemy. Saving Ye Chui would mean bearing the guild’s wrath afterward.

But… to hell with it!

Cass decided to act.

Ryan, carrying a raging storm, was now before Ye Chui. The roaring winds formed terrifying, invisible hands, capable of tearing flesh to shreds. Ye Chui, powerless to resist, was pale and weak. He glanced at Debbie one last time.

Damn it, haven’t you slept enough!?

Debbie’s long eyelashes suddenly twitched.

The next moment, just as Cass raised his greatsword to intervene, a golden light appeared before Ye Chui.

Bang!

It was the sound of wind pressure colliding.

Ryan’s twisted, furious face changed abruptly. He instinctively retreated, and the storm dissipated.

Ye Chui squinted, realising the golden light was a female swordsman in a golden battle skirt. Her armour wasn’t just golden in colour; it felt crafted from actual gold, adorned with intricate patterns. Her hair, also golden, flowed in the wind.

Her saint-like presence exuded an air of untouchable nobility.

After forcing Ryan back, the golden swordswoman turned.

Her face was beautiful, flawless, her expression cold and proud, like a sovereign overlooking the world.

But a respectful smile appeared on her face. With a clank, she knelt before Ye Chui, or rather, before Debbie beside him.

“Miss Debbie, the spirit Gilga fights for you.”

The moment the golden swordswoman appeared, she drew countless eyes. Hearing her words, everyone realised she was Debbie’s spirit. All gazes turned to the girl named Debbie.

The girl groggily got up, her eyes half-closed, still not fully awake. A trail of glistening drool dripped from her mouth.

“Huh? What’s going on?”
