Code Mage Chapter 33

The Temple of the Goddess of Wealth had become a pile of ruins. Amidst the debris, the elderly sorcerer Merlin was still tirelessly flipping through his grimoire, attempting to decipher the coordinates here. Mysterious magical runes continuously appeared around him. Many people gathered around, but none dared to disturb him. The allure of the Relics of the Gods was undeniable, and after Kas spread the news, some of Stan Town’s major forces immediately sent representatives.

Among them, Ye Chui spotted sorcerers wearing robes embroidered with a minotaur pattern, members of the Minotaur Magic Guild.

Ye Chui and Debbie didn’t approach. They hid nearby, observing. Having considered the dungeon their treasure, seeing so many people gathered here gave them the feeling that others were intruding on their doorstep. However, after craning her neck to look, Debbie’s small face showed a relieved expression.

“This old sorcerer seems skilled. He’s already halfway opened the dungeon, but he can’t break through the final restriction.”

“What’s that about?” Ye Chui asked curiously, knowing this adventure-driven girl was well-versed in otherworldly fragments like dungeons.

“The Relics of the Gods are spatial fragments detached from our world, connected to it by points called coordinates. These coordinates are like doors, allowing entry, but you need a key,” Debbie explained eagerly, waving her slender fingers. “This old sorcerer is impressive for finding the door, but to open it, he needs the most crucial key.”

“What’s the key?” Ye Chui’s eyes lit up, pressing further.

“The key could be a specific magic array or an item from the dungeon carrying its aura. For this relic, the key is…” She pointed at herself, “me.”

“You?” Ye Chui looked at the girl who had turned herself into an “item,” surprised.

“Exactly. The coordinate always existed, but it couldn’t be easily opened. A week ago, somehow, it became a door. When you pulled me out, I became the key to that door,” Debbie said seriously, her face lighting up. She pointed at the old sorcerer, “He’s done most of the work to open the coordinate, but if I get close, the door will open on its own. For him to open it by himself is like a petty thief trying to pick the lock of a king’s palace, nearly impossible.”

“If that’s the case, I’m relieved. We can focus on preparing for the dungeon adventure,” Ye Chui said, exhaling. He patted Debbie’s shoulder, ready to leave with her.

Having just dealt with Ryan’s trio, encountering Minotaur Magic Guild members now wasn’t ideal.

But at that moment, a boy in a white robe appeared behind them, “Miss Debbie, Mr. Wade, it’s great to run into you here.”

The speaker was Green, the spatial sorcerer who ran bets. Misjudging Ye Chui’s strength had cost him dearly, nearly bankrupting him.

Without his generous contribution of thirty-five gold coins, Debbie likely couldn’t have summoned the gold-hungry warrior Jilga so easily.

“It’s you,” Debbie said, her eyes lighting up as if seeing a moneybag. “What’s up? Starting another betting pool? What’s the bet this time?”

“Haha,” Green laughed awkwardly, “I wouldn’t dare start a bet in front of you two. I just saw you and wanted to say hello. I’d like to be friends.”

“Friends?” Ye Chui looked at Green curiously.

“Exactly. I, Green, may not have many strengths, but I’ve got a good eye,” Green said earnestly. “I love gambling, I’m a gambler. If my life is a bet, then meeting you two is a good wager. I trust my choice, being friends with you will bring me good luck.”

Ye Chui and Debbie exchanged glances, finding Green rather interesting. Debbie happily patted his shoulder, “Kid, you’ve got a good eye. Being friends with us, your luck…”

Before she could finish, another figure appeared beside Green, interrupting, “You’re that summoner girl who appeared out of nowhere, right?”

The speaker was a man with long blue hair, wearing an ornate robe. His handsome face, adorned with turquoise eyeshadow and flowing hair, gave him a strikingly flamboyant air. His eyes gleamed at Debbie as if she were a treasure, making both Ye Chui and Debbie uncomfortable.

“The president of Kiss of the Goddess, Bilis!” Green exclaimed.

“Kiss of the Goddess?” Ye Chui paused, searching Wade’s memories and quickly grasping what it was.

Stan Town had three major magic guilds: Minotaur, Blue Horn, and Kiss of the Goddess.

The Minotaur Magic Guild was known for its cold, ruthless style, as evidenced by Ryan and Tatak.

Blue Horn Guild was famously laid-back. Green, the gambling enthusiast, was a member. Their president, a powerful senior sorcerer, aspired to be a musician, hence the guild’s name. The members followed suit.

Then there was Kiss of the Goddess, known for its noble demeanor. Its members considered themselves superior, and their strength was unmatched.

In Stan Town, besides Debbie, there were three other summoners, all members of Kiss of the Goddess. Its president, Bilis, was the town’s most formidable summoner.

Ye Chui quickly whispered an introduction about Bilis to Debbie.

Bilis glanced at Green, “You’re Green from Blue Horn, right? So you’re friends with them.”

“Exactly, we’re friends,” Green said quickly, acting very familiar with Ye Chui and Debbie.

Bilis nodded slightly, his gaze returning to Debbie and Ye Chui.

“I’ve heard about you, especially you, summoner girl. I don’t know where you came from, but you’re clearly a promising summoner,” Bilis said, flicking his bangs with an orchid-like gesture, looking down at them. “Summoners are a noble profession, so I permit you and your companion to join my guild.”

“Huh?” Debbie blinked, “Join your guild?”

“Correct,” Bilis smiled smugly. “I heard you rejected the Minotaur Magic Guild’s offer and even offended them. Surely you won’t refuse my request, right?”

The Minotaur Magic Guild was powerful, beyond even Mayor Kas’s control. Only Kiss of the Goddess could rival them. Debbie’s summoned spirit was strong but costly, and they were broke. Bilis implied he could offer protection.

But Ye Chui and Debbie exchanged a glance and shook their heads together. Ye Chui said, “Sorry, we don’t want to join anyone’s guild.”

Bilis’s brows rose, his smiling expression cooling rapidly, “Why?”

I just don’t want to be under anyone’s protection, Ye Chui thought, ready to declare his bold stance as a transmigrator. But Debbie spoke first.

“Because your taste is awful. Why would a grown man wear turquoise eyeshadow? It clashes horribly with your blue hair. And that robe, it’s just not right, no sense of style. Tsk, want my Afu to design you a new look?”

“What did you say!?” Bilis snapped, furious.

When it came to provoking others, Debbie was clearly more skilled than Ye Chui.

Green shivered, catching Bilis’s now icy expression. His heart raced. He recalled Debbie’s interrupted words, “Kid, you’ve got a good eye. Being friends with us, your luck…” He finished the thought silently, “…is done for.”

He had underestimated their talent for courting disaster!
