Code Mage Chapter 43

The power of the dark gold stone was extraordinary, infused with a dragon’s breath far richer than ordinary gold. Gilga, transformed by this stone, couldn’t help but let out an ecstatic moan.

Ye Chui and Debbie’s vision was completely filled with golden light, forcing them to squint. In a daze, Ye Chui saw Gilga grip her sword with both hands, poised to strike. The ferocious Dragon Ants still surrounded her, and it was clear Gilga was about to unleash her ultimate move.

“This is Gilga’s strongest sword skill, [Golden Rain]!” Debbie explained, her voice tinged with glee and excitement, “This move is worth a hundred gold coins!”

A hundred-coin move, what a peculiar way to describe it.

In an instant, Gilga swung her sword with both hands, unleashing [Golden Rain]. The sword aura surged, filling the air with an indescribable tearing sensation. The ground trembled uncontrollably. The power of this strike exceeded Ye Chui’s imagination. The Dragon Ants attacking Gilga disintegrated in the golden glow, and even those trying to flee into nearby tunnels were too late.

Where the golden light reached, sword aura reigned supreme!

As the bone-piercing light softened, Ye Chui noticed Gilga’s golden glow had dimmed slightly. She panted heavily, scanning the surroundings before looking up at the stone ceiling.

That strike wasn’t just to kill the ants, it was meant to break through the ceiling and create an escape route.

Yet, a strike capable of piercing metres of stone left only a few inches of a sword mark on the ceiling, barely causing any real damage.

Gilga, incredulous, turned to Ye Chui and Debbie, “What is this place? The stone is so hard! And, Miss Debbie, what did you give me? I’ve never felt such a potent dragon’s breath! Waves of power surged through me… ugh.” She couldn’t help but moan again.

“This is the Black Gold Dragon’s head, and what we gave you was a fossil of its flesh,” Debbie said, elated at their survival. She hadn’t expected such a dramatic turn.

It was a pity Gilga couldn’t carve an escape route. Unsurprising, though, the Black Gold Flame Dragon was a legendary creature, its flesh undeniably resilient. The ants had spent five thousand years, countless generations, burrowing these intricate tunnels through its head.

Ye Chui recalled the time shadow where a red demon severed the dragon’s head with one strike. Gilga, a seemingly invincible swordmaster, could only leave a mark on the fossilised dragon. How powerful was that red demon?

Just then, something stirred on the ground, a Dragon Ant not yet dead, trying to escape. Gilga moved to finish it, but Ye Chui shouted, “Wait, let me deal the final blow!”

“Final blow?” Debbie and Gilga were both stunned.

Ye Chui grabbed a sharp stone and smashed the ant dead. He searched the ant remains, finding a few still alive, and finished them off without hesitation. Done, he summoned his iPad magic book with anticipation.

“What are you doing?” Debbie asked, puzzled.

“Getting experience from final blows,” Ye Chui explained simply.

His face, lit by Gilga’s glow, showed excitement. As he suspected, though he didn’t defeat the ants himself, landing the killing blows earned him points.

Points were akin to game experience.

Each ant gave 5 points, ten times more than the 0.5 points from a wolf-rat. He killed five, earning 25 points. Adding the 24 points from fighting Ryan, and 5 from clashing with Thorn of the Bull Magic Guild and Bilis of the Goddess’s Kiss Magic Guild before entering the Gods’ Ruins, Ye Chui now had 54 points!

These were just kill points. Fighting the ants directly and winning would yield more.

“How do we get out?” Debbie asked, looking at the countless tunnels. She shook her head, “So many paths, which one do we take? Ye Chui, do you remember where we fell from?”

“No way to remember in that chaos,” Ye Chui said, but a sly smile appeared, “I have a bold idea.”

Debbie and Gilga looked at him.

“Gilga’s summoning uses gold, requiring minimal magic, so she can stay out long, right?” Ye Chui continued.

Debbie nodded, “Yes, Gilga barely drains my magic. With enough gold, she can stay summoned for over a month.”

“And there are likely many more ants. This is a five-thousand-year-old nest,” Ye Chui said, inspecting the fungi on the walls. He spotted some Dragon Blood Mushrooms, edible, and continued, “Since we can’t find the way out soon, why not hunt the ants? Gilga fights, I land the final blows, and we collect those dark gold stones.”

“What’s the point?” Debbie frowned.

“It’s meaningful. If I kill enough ants, my magic book might awaken new abilities, helping us find the way out or even map this ruin’s castle,” Ye Chui explained. With enough points, he could unlock the [Map Navigation] package for the ruins, possibly including the dragon’s head’s complex tunnels.

He didn’t explain fully, as Debbie and Gilga likely wouldn’t understand.

Debbie’s eyes widened, “Are you saying your magic book awakened dark magic for scouting!?”

Among the nine basic magic attributes, dark shadow magic was best for detection.

“You could say that,” Ye Chui nodded. The [Map Navigation] wasn’t part of the nine systems.

“Light, water, thunder, wind, and now dark? How overpowered is your magic book!” Debbie stared at it, as if discovering a new world.

“Heh,” Ye Chui grinned, not answering. He opened the app store on his magic book, saying casually, “We need those dark gold stones, they’re treasures, but hard to carry. Looks like we need a space spell. These caves are cold, and cooking food needs fire, so I might need to awaken a fire spell too…”

“…”

Debbie felt the new world’s door was impossibly vast.

She knew her companion’s magic book was special, but she realised she’d underestimated it.
