Code Mage Chapter 58

Spatial magic is one of the nine basic magics, highly powerful. It can teleport and store items, enable movement, defend against attacks, and deliver lethal strikes. [Spatial Blade] is a low-level attack spell in spatial magic, releasing blades that tear through space, nearly impossible to block, with immense power, yet extremely difficult to master.

“Only a few hours, how could I possibly grasp this spell so quickly…” In the opulent goddess’s bedchamber, Green sat dejectedly by the door, flipping through his spellbook.

Most pages in the spellbook were blank. When a spell was mastered, it would appear as a rune on a random page, which is why spellbooks’ pages constantly fluttered during combat.

Leaning tiredly against the doorframe, Green suddenly thought of something odd. He had never seen Ye Chu flip through his spellbook. Ye Chu’s spellbook was indeed strange. Green was now certain it wasn’t as thin and worn as it appeared.

“But even with his spellbook, he couldn’t possibly master [Spatial Blade] instantly, could he?” This thought gave Green a slight sense of balance.

However, just as he sighed, a whoosh sounded, and a ripple slid through the air beside him. Crack! A half-foot-long gash appeared on the golden wall, neat and thin, like a sword slicing through wood. For a moment, Green thought an enemy had appeared, scrambling up in panic, only to see Ye Chu standing nearby.

Ye Chu had just woken up and overheard Green’s comment. He immediately downloaded and installed [Spatial Blade], a powerful spell he liked. Flipping through his spellbook, he noticed Green’s astonished gaze and smiled faintly. “Mastering [Spatial Blade] isn’t that hard, but its power is impressive.”

Yes, casually showing off…

Green looked at Ye Chu, then at the gash on the wall, feeling like he was dreaming. Mastering an attack spell like that so easily? Did Ye Chu have to make a veteran spatial magic mentor like him feel so inferior? Stunned, Green was nearly speechless.

Back in the Dragon Ant Nest, Ye Chu had 9 points left after unlocking the map pack. Defending against the demon’s attack earned him 28 points, leaving him with 37. Downloading [Spatial Blade] cost 20 points.

The app store’s downloadable spells were low-level or elemental, costing 10 to 20 points. [Spatial Blade] was the attack method Ye Chu lacked, and he had planned to download it.

With 17 points left, Ye Chu browsed the app store for useful spells, asking, “How long did I sleep?”

“About two hours,” Green replied. Without a timekeeping device, he could roughly sense time passing.

“Is that so?” Charging the iPad spellbook usually took 4 hours, but sleep sped it up. Two hours brought it to 93%, which pleased Ye Chu.

Finding no desired spells, he opened [Map Navigation] to check the demon’s movements. The red demon was still roaming the garden, but Ye Chu was surprised to see smaller red dots around the large red dot representing the demon. These were other adventure team members who had scattered when the demon broke its seal.

Ye Chu had thought they would become the demon’s prey, drained of blood, but now it seemed the demon had gathered them. Had they become its minions?

“Hm?” Checking the castle, Ye Chu was surprised to find two white dots wandering in a nearby corridor.

“Someone stayed in the castle? Didn’t Cass and the others leave through the portal?” Before sleeping, Ye Chu had checked and seen Cass’s group vanish along with the portal. He assumed they had left, not noticing two remained. His spellbook was about to vanish then, so missing two white dots was understandable.

Now, observing these two white dots, Ye Chu noticed something odd. They seemed to be fighting.

One was fleeing, the other pursuing, easily discernible from their movements.

“Who could they be?” Puzzled, Ye Chu thought for a moment, then decided, clicking the iPad screen to download another spell.

Seeing Ye Chu’s actions, Green asked, confused, “What’s wrong? You… huh?” His eyes widened.

The bedchamber was lit only by Green’s faint magic lamp, shadows filling the room. Suddenly, Ye Chu seemed to blend into the darkness. Though standing nearby, Green saw only blackness. He recognised it. “Shadow magic [Shadow Stealth]!?”

“Not bad, huh? Can you sense me at all now?” Ye Chu asked smugly, having spent 15 points to download the shadow spell [Shadow Stealth].

Green felt he couldn’t communicate normally with Ye Chu without feeling inferior. After sensing carefully, he said, “Your [Shadow Stealth] isn’t perfect. I can’t see you, but I can still sense your magic aura. You haven’t hidden it completely.”

“Magic aura?” Ye Chu paused, then recalled a function in his iPad spellbook, unlocked from the start but seemingly useless until now.

Moments later, Green was shocked to find Ye Chu completely gone.

Neither his figure nor his magic aura was detectable, as if he had fully merged with the darkness.

Hiding one’s magic aura was a skill learned through effort. Every shadow magic mentor trained in it, but what was up with Ye Chu? He couldn’t hide his aura moments ago, yet now he did so perfectly, rivaling veterans like Edel.

“What did you do?” Green asked, stunned.

“The iPad’s flight mode works like that, huh.”

A cryptic remark.

Ye Chu reappeared, glanced at Debbie sleeping soundly on the bed, clutching the dragon egg, and said to Green, “Keep watch here until Debbie wakes. I’m going out.”

In the dim corridor, heavy panting echoed.

Cass leaned against a stone pillar, clutching a wound on his left arm, his eyes warily scanning the darkness for his hunter. The two white dots Ye Chu saw on his spellbook’s map included Cass, the one being chased, and his pursuer… the old swordsman, his deputy in managing Stan Town.

After parting with Ye Chu and Debbie, they headed for the portal. But as they reached it, the portal vanished. Then, unexpectedly, the old swordsman attacked, killing the other adventurers. Cass, with his keen combat instincts, dodged the initial assault. For the past two hours, he had been evading the old swordsman.

Footsteps approached. The old swordsman, wearing a magic lamp on his wrist, appeared nearby.

“Cass, why keep struggling? You can’t escape me,” the old swordsman’s voice rang out.

“You’re controlled by the demon!” Cass shouted, gripping his greatsword’s hilt.

“Controlled? No, you’re wrong. I’ve never been controlled. From the start, I joined you as your deputy only to kill you at the right moment,” the old swordsman said with a hint of amusement.

“I was ordered by Lord Kevin to kill you.”
