Code Mage Chapter 91

In the tavern under the cover of night, a terrified roar echoed.

“President Xilesi, I was wrong, please spare me…”

The voice turned into a scream.

A swordsman frantically smashed through a window in an attempt to escape, but behind him, a wave of black flames suddenly engulfed him, halting his steps, stiffening his body, and reducing him to ashes.

The tavern quickly caught fire, burning with black flames.

Amid those flames, Xilesi’s figure slowly emerged.

She tucked the black magic book back into her cloak, donned her black robe, and looked gratefully towards the direction of Ye Chui’s cabin.

Ye Chui had once suspected Xilesi was also one of Luoxia’s people, as they had received the Southwind Outpost mission from her. Moreover, a magic instructor whose magic book had been destroyed, like Xilesi, seemed highly susceptible to Luoxia’s manipulation. Ye Chui was certain Luoxia had the ability to extract others’ magic books. However, in truth, Xilesi had no intention of betraying Ye Chui.

Assigning them the Southwind Outpost mission was purely out of kindness. Luoxia had originally planned other methods to lure Ye Chui there, but Xilesi had inadvertently assisted them.

Xilesi had no connection to Luoxia or the dark magic instructors.

She was deeply grateful to Ye Chui and his group, so after Ye Chui and Daibi left the town, she even went to Ye Chui’s house to help clean. Fortunately, when Ye Chui and his group left in a hurry, they hadn’t locked the door. His belongings weren’t worth locking up anyway; if a thief managed to steal anything worth more than a silver coin, Ye Chui would consider it a loss.

Wiping down tables and walls, washing clothes and dishes, it was only this morning that she cleared the pile of junk in the middle of the room. Then she discovered the dark magic book.

The dark magic book was essentially a magic book with a black cover. After the death of the evil spirit Xiusi, it became ownerless, usable by anyone with magical power without needing approval.

As if by fate, this magic book, once belonging to the former guardian of the Tower of Magic, had the attribute of dark fire, the same power Xilesi once possessed.

In just one day, she regained her former strength as the “Woman of Black Fire” and accomplished what she had always wanted: to kill Aibi and others who had betrayed, humiliated, and mocked her.

“Something big seems to have happened in the town, a dark magic instructor… ha, I suppose I’m a dark magic instructor now too. This seems related to Wade and his group. They’re quite the troublemakers, but with your skills, you should make it through safely, right?”

Xilesi placed her hand on her chest, feeling the magic book tucked close, a faint smile on her lips.

“Wade, I don’t know why you left this magic book buried under a pile of rubble and bricks, but thank you for giving me my power back. I’ll always remember you. We’ll meet again someday.”

With those words, she walked out of the town.

That night, she left Stan Town, and it would be a long time before she met Ye Chui again.

At the Random Name Magic Guild, while lamenting about some lunatic thief who had appeared from nowhere, they quietly headed to Kas’s residence. The commotion from the tavern caught their attention, but they didn’t pay it much mind. Their priority was to meet the old magic instructor Merlin.

They walked along Lando Street, passing the Mercenary Guild, and arrived at the mayor’s mansion by the moat. This was Ye Chui and Daibi’s second visit here. From a distance, they heard sounds of combat, so they hid in the shadows to assess the situation.

In the darkness, a faint blue light curtain enveloped the mayor’s mansion.

“It’s a spatial defence spell, but to cover such a large area, it must be Master Merlin’s spell!” Green exclaimed, his voice filled with admiration for the spatial magic instructor. “From the time he contacted us until now, he’s probably been maintaining this spell for a full day. Master Merlin is incredible!”

“But it looks like it’s on its last legs,” Ye Chui nodded. The faint blue curtain was flickering slightly, like a faulty light about to go out. His gaze shifted to the figures standing outside the mansion.

There were about a dozen of them, most of them magic instructors, and the covers of their magic books were all black. Clearly, they were the dark magic instructors controlled by Luoxia.

Among the nine magical attributes, there is a dark type, usually called shadow magic. Dark-type magic instructors are known as shadow magic instructors, distinct from dark magic instructors. Dark magic instructors’ spells depend on the attributes of their magic books, with few restrictions, requiring only magical power to activate. The only drawback is that the magic book can easily control its wielder, making them more violent, irritable, and cruel.

This is why dark magic instructors are considered evil.

The dark magic instructors attempting to break through the protective barrier exuded a savage, brutal aura.

“They seem very powerful, even scarier than the dark believers. What do we do?” Green asked, his teeth chattering.

“What else can we do? We face them head-on,” Ye Chui said, flipping through his magic book.

“Head-on?” Green’s body trembled, while Daibi and Leisha looked excited. Green inwardly sighed that he was surrounded by battle maniacs, then said, “They seem way stronger than us.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll play some epic BGM to boost your morale!” Ye Chui said calmly, opening the music player on his iPad magic book and cranking the volume to max.

Though Ye Chui appeared calm, he was secretly nervous, unsure if the BGM would affect his companions.

But soon, his worries vanished. As the cool, dynamic music played, Daibi, Leisha, and Green’s expressions visibly changed.

Daibi: “This weird music again… huh? I suddenly really want to punch someone!”

Leisha: “Oh, this feeling is amazing, it makes me want to tremble with excitement!”

Green: “I’m suddenly full of confidence. Let’s take them on!”

“It seems the epic BGM works on you all when you’re close enough,” Ye Chui nodded with satisfaction, then led the way out of the shadows.

“Den-den-den, den-den-den-den—”

The music, never heard in this world before, quickly drew the attention of the dark magic instructors. Their bloodshot eyes turned towards the sound, and in the rhythm of the intense “No Honour or Human Form in Battle” music, Ye Chui, Daibi, Leisha, and Green emerged with a commanding presence.

In this moment of the righteous forces’ grand entrance, paired with the epic BGM, they somehow carried the vibe of a gang brawl…

“Who’s there!?”

“What’s that sound?”

The dark magic instructors shouted in alarm. When they saw Ye Chui leading the group, a bearded magic instructor licked his lips sinisterly. “It’s the kid Luoxia wants! Capture him alive! Luoxia said she wants to torment him in the cruellest way possible!”

“Be careful!” Ye Chui glanced at Daibi, Leisha, and Green, then vanished into the shadows with [Shadow Stealth]. The intense BGM seemed to take on a mystical quality… Ye Chui was probably the first shadow assassin in history to use such rhythmic, epic music as his BGM.

Daibi didn’t hesitate, summoning her strongest spirit, Adult Jiji.

“Jiji—” The valkyrie brandished her light sword and charged into the dark magic instructors and fallen swordsmen.

Blood sprayed, lightning struck, flames burned, spatial blades ambushed, a sudden puddle of water on the ground nearly tripped someone, a gust of cold wind down someone’s neck startled them… From the shadows, Ye Chui relentlessly attacked the dark magic instructors with various spells. (PS: What’s with those last two?) His versatile spells, combined with Valkyrie Jiji’s swift attacks, quickly dispatched the evil, frenzied dark magic instructors.

Daibi stared at the battlefield with a serious expression.

Green felt his blood boil. This was the thrill of battle. Clutching his magic book, he eagerly asked Daibi, “Can I help with anything?”

“Yes,” Daibi nodded. “Get a bench for me to sit on. Got any bread? Grab me a piece, and don’t forget to spread your special jam on it. Ugh, Jiji’s draining so much magic, I’m exhausted… Can you also make me a cup of coffee?”

Green: “…”

What was all this passion for?

Ye Chui and Daibi were undoubtedly powerful, but their only weakness was their limited magic. They could only be heroes for a minute. Daibi’s face soon paled, and Ye Chui, in shadow stealth, quickly felt fatigued as his magic drained rapidly. He shouted, “Leisha, it’s up to you!”

“Got it, little brother,” Leisha replied, already prepared. She opened her holy book and began reciting scriptures.

Leisha had said her forte wasn’t exorcism or defensive chants but restoring magic and enhancing healing as a support.

Daibi glanced at Leisha, muttering unhappily, “I don’t need your help…” She was clearly putting on a brave face.

The scripture recitation ended quickly. Leisha raised one hand high and shouted with gusto.

“Here’s a boost from your girl!”

With a boom, two beams of holy light descended upon Ye Chui and Daibi…
