“Mate, you…”
A young man thrust his phone forward, but Lu Zheng turned sharply, his eyes glaring coldly through his sunglasses.
“I…”
Feeling an overwhelming pressure, the man struggled to breathe, as if stared down by a ferocious tiger. He instinctively lowered his phone.
Seeing Lu Zheng and Lin Wan’s attire, some people politely put away their phones, though others brazenly kept recording.
But they all tactfully stepped back, keeping their distance.
Lu Zheng and Lin Wan didn’t care much. Let them film. It didn’t reveal too much, and it wasn’t entirely unacceptable.
Everyone in China knew: the real masters were among the common folk.
As martial arts experts, knocking out a few wild boars was perfectly reasonable, right?
“Big bro! Badass!”
“Little bro, you’re so strong! That was a full-grown boar!”
“Wow, he’s kinda hot too!”
“You can’t even see his face. How do you know he’s hot?”
“He just is!”
A gaggle of girls swooned over Lu Zheng, but with Lin Wan by his side, they could only admire from afar, especially after witnessing her performance.
“S尺度“Sister! You’re amazing! How did you do that?”
Plenty of girls cast envious glances at Lin Wan. Who wouldn’t want to be as impressive as her, rather than just having a cool boyfriend?
Despite her striking presence, it was hard to reconcile Lin Wan’s elegance with her earlier heroics.
Lin Wan waved it off, asking, “Have you called the police and an ambulance?”
“Yeah, yeah!”
“We reported injuries, but didn’t call 120 specifically.”
Lin Wan nodded, unbothered, knowing the police system would handle the ambulance.
All eyes turned to the small boar in Lu Zheng’s hands.
“Oink, oink!”
Surrounded by humans, the little boar grew frantic, its energy sparking a second wave of struggling.
…
Moments later, the police and ambulance arrived.
Medics tended to the injured pedestrians, while the police approached.
Though they’d heard the boar issue was resolved, the scene still shocked them.
“What the… what happened here?”
“Make way, make way! Bloody hell… this big boar, is it dead?”
“Knocked out,” Lu Zheng said.
“Oh, right. Knocked out. Uh… who are you?” a policeman asked.
“He’s the one who knocked out the boar!”
“This guy’s incredible!”
“The lady’s amazing too!”
“Look, I got it on video!”
“Mine’s closer, officer, check it out!”
The crowd eagerly showed their phones to the police.
Lu Zheng and Lin Wan could hear exclamations like “holy crap” and “two idiots” blaring from the videos.
Lu Zheng: 눈_눈
Lin Wan: -_-#
“Bloody… impressive!”
The officers barely restrained their language.
Their looks at Lu Zheng and Lin Wan were filled with disbelief.
“Thank you both!” The lead officer, an older man, gripped Lu Zheng’s hand. “Without you, more people could’ve been hurt!”
“No problem, just doing our part,” Lu Zheng replied, shaking his hand. “Anything we need to do?”
The officer said, “If it’s convenient, come to the station for a statement, just to explain what happened.”
“Of course, no problem,” Lu Zheng nodded. “What about the boars?”
As they spoke, one of the smaller boars, in better shape, started struggling to escape.
Lin Wan reached it in two steps, grabbed its hind legs, and swung it down.
“Bang!”
Another boar, about to stand, collapsed.
The officers swallowed hard, feeling a pang of inadequacy.
“We’ve contacted Suzhou Zoo, but they’ll take a while. We’ll take the boars to the station for now,” the lead officer said to a colleague. “Get a van.”
“I can help. I’m a delivery guy, my van’s over there. Will that do?” a man offered, pointing to a cargo van across the street.
“Won’t it disrupt your work?”
“No, no, I’m free right now!” The man waved it off, hurrying to his van.
The officer didn’t object, quietly instructing a subordinate, “Make sure he’s paid later.”
“Got it!”
A minute later, the man pulled the van up to the curb.
“We’ll help!”
“I’ve got this!”
The crowd was enthusiastic, ready to assist with the boars.
Lu Zheng stayed back, letting the officer direct the tying of the large boar’s hooves before the group loaded it onto the van.
The seven smaller boars followed suit.
The last boar in Lu Zheng’s hands, exhausted from struggling, went limp as it was tied up and placed into the dark confines of the van, trembling and tearful.
…
In the police car.
“You two are something else. Names?”
“Lu Zheng.”
“Lin Wan,” she added. “I’m also a cop, Haicheng City Bureau, Serious Crimes Unit Three.”
“Oh?”
“Nice to meet you!”
Lin Wan leaned forward, shaking the older officer’s hand from the passenger seat.
“Are you ex-military?” the officer asked. “Or active?”
The video was too shocking. Eight boars, one large, seven small, untamed without guns. Yet this couple handled it effortlessly.
Especially Lu Zheng, knocking out the big boar with one strike?
That kind of power took twenty years of training. Only elite special forces could do it!
“No,” Lin Wan shook her head. “I graduated from the Public Security University, joined Haicheng Bureau right after.”
Lu Zheng shook his head. “Not me either. I just practice traditional martial arts.”
The officer: “…”
A retired soldier himself, he’d hoped to bond, but was left speechless.
The driving officer chuckled, then quickly stifled it.
The older officer shot him a look, then said, “The new generation surpasses the old. Impressive!” He turned to Lu Zheng. “Traditional martial arts? Which school? That’s incredible.”
Lu Zheng shook his head. “No school. Just picked up some manuals online. Xingyi, Baji, a bit of everything.”
The officer: “…”
