Kicking the Uzi submachine gun that had fallen to the ground aside, Lin Wan quickly frisked the two men and found two more pistols. With a swift sweep, she knocked the two unfortunate gunmen to the side. They groaned in pain but couldn’t get up. Lin Wan darted back to Hong Liang’s side. “Brother Hong, you okay?”
“Holy crap! Badass!” Despite the dangerous situation, Hong Liang couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration. “I’m fine. Check on Jiaotiano!”
The two rushed to Jiaotiano’s side and found he was lucky, unharmed by stray bullets. “Jiaotiano, you alright?”
“Miss Lin, you’re a true war goddess!” Jiaotiano exclaimed first. “I’m fine, just a bit shaken.”
“Lin Wan!” At that moment, Lu Zheng appeared suddenly, glancing around with narrowed eyes. He had just arrived outside the airport when he heard a muffled explosion, followed by screams from the underground car park. Lu Zheng cast an invisibility spell on himself and rushed over, but by the time he reached the scene, Lin Wan had already finished the fight.
“Well fought!” Lu Zheng said with a smile.
“Lu Zheng! Get out of here, it might still be dangerous!” Hong Liang shouted. The enemy’s plan had failed, but it would be hard for them to reach their destination as planned. This was Japan, the enemy’s turf, and who knew if a second wave was coming. Hong Liang meant well, and since Lin Wan was unharmed, Lu Zheng nodded, gave her a knowing look, then turned the corner and vanished from sight. At the same time, his voice reached Lin Wan’s ear. “I’ll be nearby.”
Lin Wan’s lips curved slightly, and she nodded gently.
“Call an ambulance!”
“No, head to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department first!” Jiaotiano struggled to his feet.
Just then, a phone rang. “Moshi moshi?”
“The courier was killed, and Ueda’s team was hit by a bomb attack, completely wiped out!” The voice on the phone was furious. “What’s your situation?”
“We were also hit by a bomb and ambushed by gunmen, but Officer Lin took care of it!”
“What? You’re all okay?”
“We’re heading to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department now!”
“Good! Hurry! I’ve already sent reinforcements!”
Lu Zheng’s puzzled voice reached Lin Wan’s ear. “Weren’t you just a decoy team? He’s so badly injured, yet you’re still rushing to the police department. Could it be you’re carrying the original?”
Lin Wan shook her head. “We don’t even know if what we have is the original. The unlock code is at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, so our mission is to deliver it there.”
“That’s thorough…” Lu Zheng couldn’t help but remark. “Alright, you go. I’ll follow from the side.”
Lin Wan’s lips curved again, and she nodded lightly, helping Hong Liang support Jiaotiano. Due to the explosion, the people in the underground car park had long since fled. As the three emerged from the underground, they found a crowd gathered at the exit, watching the commotion. Don’t think only Chinese people love watching drama; spectating is human nature. It’s just more noticeable in a safer country like China.
As the three prepared to hail a taxi, a bystander in the crowd suddenly collapsed. A pistol clattered to the ground. Screams erupted, and the crowd scattered like frightened birds.
“What’s going on?” Hong Liang asked, uncertain.
“No idea! Maybe a sudden brain haemorrhage. Who cares!” Lin Wan said casually.
Hong Liang: ???
This wasn’t the time to dwell on it. A taxi passed by, and Hong Liang stepped forward to flag it down, speaking fluent Japanese. “We’re Interpol. We’ve just been attacked. Take us to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department!”
“Hai!”
Hong Liang, who spoke Japanese, sat in the front passenger seat, while Lin Wan helped Jiaotiano into the back and began bandaging his wounds. “Damn it, Haneda Mahiro is just the chairman of Silverlight Group. How can he mobilise such forces in Tokyo? Who’s backing him?” Hong Liang grumbled. “Isn’t gun control strict in Japan? How are there bombs and gunmen?”
Jiaotiano grimaced. “Gun control applies to civilians. The underworld has some restrictions on firearms, but top-tier conglomerates and elite families are untouchable.”
Hong Liang sneered but said nothing, staying vigilant and scanning the surroundings. “The bombs and gunmen failed, and that killer at the car park entrance mysteriously failed too. There shouldn’t be more, right?” Lin Wan asked.
“No, those two gunmen were a backup plan. The guy at the entrance with a pistol was likely just the one who detonated the bomb remotely,” Hong Liang said. “The target had double insurance on-site. In theory, we shouldn’t have escaped. Like the other two teams. But if we got through, they shouldn’t have more backups. How’s that possible?”
“At the police department entrance?” Lin Wan reacted instantly.
“Exactly!” Hong Liang nodded. “There must be one final safeguard at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department entrance.”
Jiaotiano struggled to speak. “Maybe we should wait for reinforcements.”
“You sure your response will be faster than theirs?” Hong Liang said. “I’m worried we’ll meet their killers before your reinforcements arrive.”
Jiaotiano: “…”
The taxi sped through the city streets, the driver visibly nervous. Though unaware of further dangers, having a bloodied police officer in the back was enough to create tension. As they neared the city centre, traffic thickened, and the car slowed. Before long, a green light turned red at a crossroads, and the taxi stopped in the middle of the intersection.
“We’re almost there! Two more streets,” Jiaotiano said, panting.
“Drones!” Lin Wan spotted two drones suddenly flying out from a building on the left. “They’ve got machine guns attached!” Hong Liang shouted. “Get out!”
At the same time, a van crashed out from a side road. “Get out!” Lin Wan’s eyes narrowed as she reached for the door, but the two drones exploded mid-air. “Boom! Boom!”
The van that had just appeared didn’t stop. It swerved across the road and crashed into a streetlamp on the opposite side.
“What’s going on?” The driver, panicked, stammered.
“Drive!” Hong Liang shouted, his eyes filled with uncertainty. Did Tokyo police snipers take out the drones? And what was with that van? A coincidence?
Lin Wan’s lips curved into a smile as she lightly patted the driver’s seat. “Don’t worry, we’re safe. One more street to go.”
The driver, still tense, replied in Japanese. “What did you say? I don’t understand!”
