Yesterday’s exertions were too much, and Lu Zheng slept until he woke naturally the next morning, full of energy.
“Refining Qi Scripture, Five Talisman Techniques, Cloud Mist Transport Technique, I’ve mastered them all, so boring, what now?”
Lu Zheng lay flat on his bed, letting the sunlight from the window bathe his sharply defined, almost sculpted body.
“Pity, the peace talisman only warns and protects against malice or non-human presences, only useful in the Great Jing Dynasty.”
“I wonder if there’s a protective talisman against impacts later on, that’d be useful for accidents in modern China.”
“Can’t ask right away, though, cultivating qi in half a month is already remarkable, if I mastered the Five Talisman Techniques and Cloud Mist Transport Technique in three days…”
“Also…”
Lu Zheng’s youthful heart stirred, Liu Qingyan clearly had feelings for him, so should he accept, or… accept?
*Knock knock knock.*
As Lu Zheng reached downward, a sudden knock interrupted.
“Hm?”
Since moving, no one knew he lived here.
Property management?
Unfazed, Lu Zheng threw on a T-shirt and shorts, opening the door.
“Lin Wan?”
To his surprise, it wasn’t property management but Officer Lin, whom he’d met once before.
Beside her stood two male officers.
Though none wore uniforms, who else could they be, standing with Lin Wan?
And Lu Zheng could faintly sense their cautious wariness toward him.
Why?
“Lu Zheng,” Lin Wan nodded.
“Uh, what’s up?” Lu Zheng asked, bewildered.
The two male officers exchanged a glance, and Lin Wan said seriously, “There’s a case, we need to ask you some questions, please come to the station for a statement.”
“A case?” Lu Zheng’s confusion deepened, “What case could involve me?”
His expression shifted, “Did something happen to my parents?”
As an upright guy, the only thing he could imagine was something happening to his parents, and the police were here to notify the family.
Lu Zheng grabbed his phone to call his mum.
The officer to Lin Wan’s left lunged, reaching for his wrist.
The other stepped forward, pressing toward Lu Zheng’s left shoulder.
“Don’t touch him!” Lin Wan shouted.
“Hm?”
Lu Zheng’s eyes narrowed, his right hand slipping past the first officer’s grasp, while instinctively dodging left, leaning in, and colliding.
*Bang!*
The second officer hit the opposite wall.
“Uh, sorry!”
Before the three officers could react, Lu Zheng startled himself.
“Sorry, sorry!” He stepped out, catching the officer before he slid down, “My bad, it was sudden, I didn’t think.”
Lin Wan and the others, “…”
Lu Zheng’s reaction left the first officer frozen, embarrassed.
Lin Wan laughed helplessly, “What are you all doing? Lu Zheng, it’s not about your parents!”
“Oh? Not them?” Lu Zheng said, surprised, “Then what case could involve me?”
Lin Wan shook her head, visibly relieved, “Come with us, and we’ll explain.”
“Alright, give me a sec to change and put on shoes.”
Lu Zheng replied, then apologised again to the officer he was holding, “Really sorry about that!”
The officer rubbed his chest, forcing a smile, “No worries, my fault, I was too rash.”
Lu Zheng gave a dry laugh and went back inside.
“Lu Zheng, can I come in?” Lin Wan called after him.
“Sure, look around!” Lu Zheng replied over his shoulder.
The three exchanged a glance and followed him in.
“Need to change shoes?”
“No need!”
“You live alone?” Lin Wan scanned the living room.
“Yeah.”
“Living alone in such a big place, you’re a tycoon!”
“Tycoon, my foot, it’s rented. If I were rich, I’d have bought it.”
Lin Wan first checked the dining table, then the coffee table, shaking her head.
Another officer strolled into the kitchen, returned quickly, and shook his head.
The third leaned against Lu Zheng’s bedroom door, watching him put on a jacket.
His eyes scanned the room, then he left.
“I’m ready, let’s go,” Lu Zheng said, entering the living room.
Lin Wan smiled, “Thanks for cooperating.”
“No problem!” Lu Zheng grinned.
They went downstairs and piled into a seemingly ordinary Volkswagen Passat.
“Lengzi, take the front,” Lin Wan nodded to one of the officers.
“Uh, is that okay? What if…”
Lin Wan gave a cold laugh, “What if? Even if something happens, can you handle it?”
Liu Leng: T^T
Lu Zheng glanced at Liu Leng, then at Lin Wan, before opening the door and sliding in.
…
The car started, just two in the back, the faint scent from Lin Wan quite pleasant.
“You must have a lot of questions,” Lin Wan looked at him.
“Tons,” Lu Zheng nodded, “What’s going on? Feels like you’re all cautiously guarding against me resisting.”
He wasn’t stupid, a simple move to grab his phone had two grown men pouncing.
“We’ll explain at the station, discipline prevents us from saying now,” Lin Wan said.
“Understood,” Lu Zheng nodded.
“Don’t worry, modern forensics are advanced, good people don’t get wronged.”
Lu Zheng’s eyes widened, “You’re making me nervous!”
But he felt at ease, an honest man fears no shadow, so while curious, he wasn’t worried.
Lin Wan sensed his calm and relaxed a bit, teasing, “Nervous? Nervous, yet you sent Lengzi crashing into a wall?”
Liu Leng turned from the front, “Sis, you’re gonna lose me like this.”
The driver, middle-aged officer Liang Yuandong, glanced back at Lu Zheng, probing, “Lu Zheng, your reflexes are unreal, aren’t they?”
If Lu Zheng hadn’t seemed more flustered than them afterward, he’d have called for backup.
Lu Zheng licked his lips, chuckling dryly, “No one’s ever come at me like that before…”
Liang Yuandong: So it’s our fault?
“Impressive, like the saying, ‘hitting someone like hanging a painting’?” Lin Wan looked at him, eyes sparkling, “That day, you took down Li Yanjie in one move, what style do you practice? Bajiquan, or Piguazhang?”
“Li Yanjie? The Ferrari guy?” Lu Zheng raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah,” Lin Wan nodded, giving him a meaningful look.
“He was even weaker,” Lu Zheng shook his head, “I didn’t use a fist style to take him down.”
“Huh?”
“It was a blade technique,” Lu Zheng smiled.
