On the beach.
Lu Zheng, of course, would not give artificial respiration to this middle-aged man named Pu Chawang, so he punched him in the stomach.
Lin Wan, “…”
“Vomit!”
A mouthful of seawater sprayed out. With true energy stimulating his heart to beat again, Pu Chawang slowly opened his eyes.
The sunlight was dazzling. What he saw first was a handsome young man and a beautiful woman.
“You are…”
“You were thrown into the sea by Sha Dun and drowned quickly. Luckily we arrived in time, otherwise we couldn’t have saved you.” Lin Wan said seriously, “By the way, I am an Interpol officer from China.”
“Oh, thank you.” Pu Chawang’s eyes flickered briefly. He nodded, but showed no other reaction.
Lin Wan curved her lips slightly, “You can contact the Mian Country branch to verify my identity.”
Pu Chawang’s eyes shifted, “Did the branch contact China for aid?”
“Yes.” Lin Wan nodded.
Pu Chawang’s expression relaxed a bit. He struggled to sit up, but couldn’t help clutching his stomach and groaning in pain.
“What’s wrong?” Lin Wan blinked.
“It’s nothing!” Pu Chawang shook his head, indicating it was fine, then said somewhat anxiously, “Sha Dun, this time he came to Ya City to negotiate a transaction with someone in a third country. I must know the details of his transaction and his trading partner.”
“Don’t worry. I have already sent the transaction information back to headquarters.” Lin Wan said, “If things go smoothly, it might have been forwarded to the Mian Country branch by now.”
“Ah?”
“Your mission is complete. Go back to the hotel and rest, then contact the Mian Country branch for your next arrangements.”
“Oh oh, alright.” Pu Chawang nodded in a daze.
Having just recovered from drowning, his mind was still in a foggy state and he hadn’t realised that Lin Wan had said “I” instead of “we”.
“Thank you both!” Pu Chawang said, “I’ll head back to the hotel to contact headquarters first, then come find you to express my thanks properly.”
“You’re welcome.” Lin Wan said, “By the way, you’d best change hotels. After all, you’ve already crossed paths with Sha Dun.”
Pu Chawang nodded, then hurried off towards the hotel.
Watching Pu Chawang leave, Lu Zheng couldn’t help asking, “The mission is done just like that?”
Lin Wan nodded as if it were the most natural thing, “Yes, it is.”
“So simple?”
“Isn’t it though.” Lin Wan shrugged, “This is just a temporary task for me, mainly to assist. After all, Sha Dun is from Mian Country, and his main criminal activities are in the Golden Triangle of Mian Country. He has no criminal record in China…”
“Dumping a body at sea?”
Lin Wan, “…”
“Can’t you speak properly?”
“Alright, alright!” Lu Zheng nodded repeatedly.
“In any case, the goal is to obtain evidence that allows the Mian Country police to arrest Sha Dun and dismantle his forces in northern Myanmar’s Golden Triangle.”
Lin Wan said, “The video we just recorded, plus if the Mian Country police can catch him red-handed at the transaction site, should be enough to arrest and prosecute Sha Dun.”
“So this sea dumping incident is just brushed off?”
Lin Wan said, “Pu Chawang himself doesn’t seem to care.”
“That’s true.” Lu Zheng said, then pursed his lips, “I thought it would take ages, but it was sorted in half a day.”
Lin Wan was speechless. Only Lu Zheng had the invisibility spell and could track auras. If it were anyone else, forget solving the problem, they might still be searching for Pu Chawang’s whereabouts, let alone Sha Dun’s transaction, which would be a pipe dream.
So when Lin Wan reported that she had rescued Pu Chawang and sent the video back to headquarters, everyone at headquarters was astonished.
“Alright, since it’s all sorted, shall we go shopping this afternoon?” Lu Zheng wrapped his arm around Lin Wan’s slender waist.
“Sure, we head back tomorrow, so today let’s buy some local seafood souvenirs.”
And so the two went to the outlet mall, happily wandering for the afternoon. Besides some local seafood and fruits, they also bought plenty of duty-free clothes and shoes.
“Want to go diving again this afternoon?” Lu Zheng asked.
“We just dived this morning during the rescue, and it wasn’t that interesting. The seabed in Ya City isn’t as pretty as on those tropical islands. When can we go on a trip to the Great Barrier Reef?” Lin Wan thought and said.
“Huh? You’ve agreed to go abroad?”
Lin Wan sighed helplessly, “It feels like no matter where we travel, we’ll run into trouble. Since that’s the case, we might as well choose the location ourselves. At least international trips basically don’t cost us anything, right?”
That time in Southeast Asia, they won back all the travel expenses at the casino and got two nights in a luxury hotel for free.
The Europe trip was even more so, they even burned down a private island.
By contrast, domestic trips always required paying out of pocket, which wasn’t satisfying!
“Then it’s settled. How about over the New Year? The southern hemisphere will be summer then, perfect for a trip to Australia.”
Lin Wan nodded. As the two linked arms and walked into the hotel lobby, they both frowned simultaneously.
“What’s going on?” Lin Wan asked softly.
Lu Zheng also pursed his lips, “Are Mian Country’s Interpol officers this rubbish?”
“You think every country’s police are like China’s?”
Lu Zheng sighed, “Even so, they shouldn’t make such a basic mistake, and what are they waiting for?”
Lin Wan pondered, “Maybe they’re waiting for…”
Lu Zheng sensed the two people behind them drawing closer and couldn’t help sighing, “For us!”
Lin Wan snorted coldly.
Lu Zheng remained composed.
Then the two suddenly felt a chill at their lower backs, the sensation of gun muzzles.
“Don’t move! Don’t shout!”
“Come with us!”
“Be careful!”
Lu Zheng and Lin Wan exchanged a glance, then turned their heads towards the lounge area on the other side of the lobby.
Pu Chawang was sitting on the sofa there, with one of Sha Dun’s other bodyguards beside him.
Seeing the two look over, Pu Chawang averted his gaze, unable to meet their eyes.
“Tsk tsk, as expected.” Lu Zheng chuckled, “Looks like he wanted to surrender back on the boat.”
“Shut up!” A low growl with a strange accent came from behind.
Lu Zheng curved his lips but said nothing. He simply followed Lin Wan as they slowly left the hotel under the escort of the two behind them, heading all the way to the pier.
“Looks like we get another free sea trip. I always thought renting a yacht was expensive. This counts as getting a free activity, right?” Lu Zheng quipped.
Lin Wan let out a “pfft” laugh, then spotted Sha Dun standing on the yacht’s deck.
Dressed in a floral shirt, holding a tall-stemmed glass, he raised it towards them from afar and drained it in one go.
“So arrogant? Thinks he’s got us cornered?”
“With a boat and guns, and about to head out to sea, of course he thinks he’s got us.” Lin Wan said flatly.
“They have guns. If I act, it should count as self-defence, right?” Lu Zheng asked with a smile.
“Of course.” Lin Wan nodded calmly, then asked, “When do we do the self-defence?”
“Naturally, after we set sail!” Lu Zheng said, sounding quite expectant.
