Lu Zheng raised an eyebrow, while Lin Wan subtly winked at him, chewing lightly twice before licking her lips with her tongue.
Lu Zheng swallowed hard, lifting his appetizer soup and taking a big gulp.
“Hehe!”
Lin Wan’s smug expression showed her satisfaction: *You tease me, I’ll tease you back.*
Brushing her hair back, she took a sip of the accompanying wine and continued, “Besides that crown, the necklace and earrings rank second and third, but they’re not far ahead of other treasures, like the emerald sceptre, the golden angel statue with wings encrusted with a star map of coloured diamonds, or the mirror framed with a circle of diamonds.”
“And…”
“And what?”
“And Interpol has sources saying several major art thieves have gathered in Miami, seemingly with plans.”
“Good grief, art thieves? Are we filming a movie?” Lu Zheng exclaimed.
Lin Wan nodded. “They’re professionals who play dirty, but Grant has bought insurance, and the federal insurance company hired Blackwater Security to protect the jewels.”
“It’s getting more and more like a movie…” Lu Zheng clicked his tongue. “But it seems we can’t lose either way, right?”
Lin Wan shrugged. “Exactly, which is why I didn’t rush to tell you.”
“In that case…”
“Excuse me, your main courses are ready. Please enjoy.”
This time, four waiters arrived, setting the main dishes on the table, filling it up.
“Thank you,” Lu Zheng nodded, watching the waiters leave before continuing, “We definitely need to celebrate properly!”
Lin Wan smiled, raising her glass.
“Cheers!”
“Cheers!”
…
After a lavish dinner costing over three thousand per person, the two strolled out.
“So extravagant! That could’ve covered two months of cafeteria meals,” Lin Wan said.
“Yeah, fragrant braised pork head is only thirty per kilo. A hundred kilos of pork head, how long would that last us!” Lu Zheng nodded.
Lin Wan pressed her forehead. “They’re using A5 beef, bluefin tuna, Australian lobster, or Yunnan matsutake. How does that compare to pork head in your mind?”
“Tch,” Lu Zheng scoffed. “All foreign luxury standards. Fine, we don’t have that stuff domestically yet.”
Pausing, he added, “A5 beef and bluefin tuna have such low annual yields. How easy is it to get the real thing? I’m skeptical about whether they’re genuine.”
Lin Wan laughed. “Can’t even a chef like you tell?”
Lu Zheng said helplessly, “I’ve never tasted the real thing, how would I know? But you think those are the top-tier ingredients?”
Grinning, he continued, “Just wait. I’ll bring you some truly top-tier ingredients soon.”
“Really?” Lin Wan’s eyes flickered, not doubting him.
After all, he’d given her immortal elixirs before. Could he not manage fresh ingredients?
“Great! I’m waiting!” Lin Wan smiled, linking arms with Lu Zheng as they strolled along the bank of Haicheng’s inner river.
It was early summer, with a cool evening breeze. Many others were walking along the riverbank, and the two blended into the crowd, looking like an ordinary couple, entirely unremarkable.
But their conversation was anything but ordinary.
“When’s your next day off? Let’s go to the Palace Museum to deliver some stuff.”
“Those items you took from Allen Art Company?” Lin Wan blinked. “If we go together, won’t it expose our tracks?”
Lu Zheng blinked, uncertain.
He had considered flying Lin Wan to the capital.
But with the Skynet system covering every city, if they were noticed…
Appearing in the capital without any travel records…
Did you fly here?
Cough, well, technically, yes!
“And those items are recorded in Allen Art Company’s books. It’s best not to overlap with our movements.”
Lu Zheng nodded. “Alright, I’ll go alone then.”
Lin Wan laughed. “Another week-long trip?”
“A week?” Lu Zheng burst out laughing, hinting, “You’re underestimating your husband. That was last year. This year…”
“Three days?”
“Heh!”
Lu Zheng glanced around, then wrapped his arm around Lin Wan’s waist, spinning her into a small grove by the riverbank.
“What are you doing?”
Lin Wan’s breathing quickened, her chest rising and falling, her heart racing, her face flushed, and her eyes darting around.
“Of course…”
Lu Zheng’s lips curved, his hands gently moving upward, tightening.
“Taking you flying!”
As he spoke, he cast an invisibility spell over them, and a white cloud appeared beneath their feet.
The next moment, Lin Wan felt a soft, cottony sensation underfoot, and her body began to rise.
“Ahhh!!!”
Her eyes sparkled as she exclaimed, “I’m flying, flying, flying!”
If Lu Zheng hadn’t sealed the sound around them, a crowd would’ve rushed into the grove by now.
Seeing Lin Wan’s shocked expression, Lu Zheng couldn’t help but laugh heartily.
Then Lin Wan realised her words might’ve carried some ambiguity, so she bared her teeth and shifted the blame.
“You can fly now? When did you learn to fly? You didn’t even tell me and just took me up!”
“Wanted to surprise you, didn’t I?”
Lu Zheng held her waist. “So, surprised? Unexpected?”
“Surprised! Unexpected!” Lin Wan laughed, her face full of excitement.
Though Lu Zheng had given her many surprises, flying freely in the sky was a massive shock.
After all, soaring through the air is one of humanity’s most primal desires, depicted in countless murals and legends.
Now, standing on a white cloud, cloaked in an invisibility spell, they floated a few hundred meters above Haicheng’s inner river.
The vast city lay below, bustling with traffic and glowing with lights.
Protected by Lu Zheng’s cloud energy, the strong winds couldn’t touch them. Under his control, they circled Haicheng’s tallest buildings, observing tourists also enjoying the night view.
“It’s so beautiful…” Lin Wan sighed in awe.
“Not as beautiful as you,” Lu Zheng whispered, leaning closer.
Lin Wan turned, her eyes shining, and said firmly, “Home!”
“Huh?”
“Home, now!” Lin Wan’s gaze was intense. “Fly back!”
“What about the car?”
“Get it tomorrow!”
…
Five minutes later.
“No need to be so intense, ouch—”
“Fly! I’m flying!”
