“Dragon Team my foot!”
The director couldn’t help but snap angrily, “Don’t think just because I’m old I don’t read web novels, I was reading them when you were still in split pants!”
“Yes, yes, yes!”
The young technician looked sheepish, lowered his head in silence, admitting his mistake.
The director cleared his throat twice, his expression turning serious, then took a deep breath and looked at the elder, “Elder Zheng, what do you think, should we reconsider? Wait until my report gets a response?”
Everyone, “…”
Elder Zheng remained expressionless, staring at the satellite cloud map on the screen, then noticed that the cloud mass began to move slowly.
Apart from the clouds staying in place, one section of the cloud mass moved towards Yunnan Province, tracing a curve just like yesterday.
Elder Zheng smacked his lips, “Then… let’s reconsider?”
Everyone, “…”
“Report!” A technician hurriedly entered the monitoring room.
“What is it?”
“A call from upstairs, the Southwest Military Region has dispatched drones to investigate the anomalous cloud mass, please cooperate on the meteorological monitoring side!”
The director, “…”
Elder Zheng, “…”
…
Below the clouds, Lu Zheng carried Lin Wan, riding a white cloud, blending into the cloud mass, heading towards eastern Yunnan Province.
“I really didn’t expect this, the southwest region actually having drought too, I always thought drought only happened in the north,” Lin Wan said.
Lu Zheng replied, “Drought, besides latitude and longitude, is mainly related to global terrain and topography, the Sahara is near the equator, yet it’s the driest place in the world.”
Lin Wan nodded, holding a drought distribution map downloaded from the internet, then looked down again, pointing southeast, “It seems even more severe over there.”
Lu Zheng urged the white cloud in the direction Lin Wan indicated.
Behind them, a vast expanse of rolling clouds left a trail, with pattering raindrops condensing and sprinkling down onto the earth below.
“Huh?” Lu Zheng raised an eyebrow.
“What’s wrong?” Lin Wan looked at Lu Zheng.
Lu Zheng smiled faintly, “We have a guest.”
“What?”
“A drone, the most advanced Rainbow drone at that, we’re quite honoured!”
Lin Wan was startled upon hearing this, quickly looking around, “They’ve spotted us?”
Lu Zheng patted Lin Wan’s arm, “No, it’s just flying around the edge of the cloud mass, not heading towards us.”
“Why would there be…” Lin Wan immediately realised, “We’ve been too obvious!”
Lu Zheng frowned and nodded, then asked, “Probably, but I thought since it hasn’t rained in ages, a bit of rain should seem normal, right?”
Lin Wan nodded too, “Yeah, long drought met with sweet rain, very normal, it can’t stay dry forever, this isn’t the Sahara after all.”
These two complete novices in meteorology had no idea just how conspicuous their actions appeared to the analysts!
But Lu Zheng and Lin Wan weren’t fools, after the drone appeared, they immediately reviewed, and quickly spotted their flaw.
Lin Wan’s eyes widened hugely, “We shouldn’t have moved the cloud mass with us, it looks just like carving a river through the desert.”
“Even if we gathered clouds and qi at different points, it would seem like a natural phenomenon,” Lu Zheng nodded, smacking his lips, “Before, I just thought about staying invisible so telescopes wouldn’t spot us, and condensing the cloud mass all at once for convenience…”
Lin Wan suddenly looked at Lu Zheng, “The way we’re doing this, it’s too obviously man-made!”
“Yeah!” Lu Zheng rubbed his chin, “Otherwise why would a drone come over?”
Lin Wan got a bit anxious, “What do we do?”
“No worries!” Lu Zheng shook his head, “They won’t find us anyway, let’s just carry on, do what we need to.”
If they reacted now, it would only confirm it was man-made, ignoring it entirely made it a mysterious natural phenomenon.
“Really can’t find us?”
Lu Zheng grinned, pulled Lin Wan close and kissed her hard, “You’re underestimating my invisibility spell too much, whether it’s optical detection, infrared, ultrasonic, none can detect a trace of us.”
Lin Wan’s face flushed red, with the drone not far outside, it gave her a feeling of being watched.
But Lu Zheng’s words eased her mind a little, and thinking further, even if they were discovered, so what.
Lu Zheng could fly now, even induce rainfall to alleviate drought, he was practically a strategic humanoid nuclear weapon, no matter what, he’d have his own say.
“Let’s go! Keep going!”
Lu Zheng and Lin Wan pinched the invisibility incantation, then followed the map, continuing along the drier areas, and even got a close look at the country’s most advanced drone along the way.
The pouring rain fell onto the farmlands already thirsting for moisture.
…
The drone circled back and forth around the cloud mass perimeter several times, then tentatively entered a bit, but quickly withdrew.
Two hours later, when Lu Zheng and Lin Wan entered Yunnan Province, the drone turned around and flew away.
Lu Zheng wandered another loop in northeastern Yunnan, brought down some rain, and seeing the sky darkening, took Lin Wan back to Chengdu.
…
A certain conference room.
“Any findings?”
“None at all, we used every method, no signs of life in the cloud mass.”
“And the cloud mass movement wasn’t affected by the drone at all, as if we didn’t exist.”
“Except for no wind, no pressure difference, no airflow interaction, the cloud movement is exactly like a natural phenomenon.”
“…”
“We’re in an analysis meeting now, no joking.”
“Yes!”
“Any ideas?”
“There’s an invisible dragon in the cloud mass, bringing rain to the drought areas.”
“…”
“Even if this is some foreign experiment using weather weapons on us, it would still need to follow basic meteorological science, creating the necessary atmospheric conditions, not this utterly unreasonable conjuring out of nowhere.”
“Alright, alright, what era is this, you really believe in dragons, it’s just some natural phenomenon we’ve never seen before, ahem, submit the analysis report, let those meteorologists analyse it… We continue monitoring.”
“Yes!”
…
On the third day, Lu Zheng and Lin Wan first toured the Wuhou Temple and Du Fu Thatched Cottage in the morning, then in the afternoon went for a loop in Guizhou Province, this time their outing’s purpose was fulfilled.
“It’s a pity, we could only look at the pandas in the breeding base from afar, not satisfying at all.”
“Yeah, not much fun.”
Lu Zheng and Lin Wan exchanged a line each, then looked at each other.
“I heard there are quite a few wild pandas living in Minshan and Liangshan?”
“And they live carefree, all fat and plump?”
“We’re just going as guests, surely they won’t mind?”
“We can bring them fresh bamboo as a gift.”
“Then…”
“Let’s go?”
Lu Zheng raised an eyebrow, “You only took two days off, it seems.”
Lin Wan declared firmly, “It’s not busy lately, I’ll take one more day!”
