Crossgate Seal Chapter 769 - LiddRead

Crossgate Seal Chapter 769

Lin Wan could not help breathing a sigh of relief.

It was common knowledge that when it came to drug abuse, boyfriends and girlfriends were most easily dragged into it, especially when one party came from a comfortable family background.

Lin Wan naturally did not doubt that Lu Zheng had misread the signs, so her first concern was for Li Ying.

“Why are you looking at me?”

Sensing Lin Wan’s glance back, Li Ying turned, smiled, and asked.

“Lu Zheng says you are really capable. The tickets you got are excellent,” Lin Wan said, making conversation.

“Hehe, it is nothing. I often get complimentary tickets. We can come together more in future,” Li Ying laughed.

Lin Wan nodded, took another sip of coffee, glanced at Wang Yuqi beside Li Ying, then took out her phone and messaged Huang Xiumin, asking her to bring people to block the entrance of the Haicheng Grand Theatre in three hours.

A merit delivered on a plate might even lead them up the vine to the drug dealers. Huang Xiumin reported it immediately, and the major crimes unit dispatched a four-person team, assembling and heading to the Haicheng Grand Theatre.

Wang Yuqi shifted uneasily. The way Lu Zheng and Lin Wan had looked at him just now made him very uncomfortable.

Swallowing hard, the performance on stage had reached the scene in the General’s Tomb where they fought the Red Ghost King to obtain the Earth Spirit Pearl, but Wang Yuqi could not settle his mind at all.

Li Ying, sitting to his left, noticed something wrong. “What is the matter?”

“I need the toilet,” Wang Yuqi said, taking a deep breath.

“Oh, okay.” Li Ying quickly drew in her legs, and Wang Yuqi passed on the left, just catching sight of Lu Zheng and Lin Wan looking toward him.

His heart skipped a beat, but then he saw the two nod at him naturally and turn back to the stage.

“Phew…”

Wang Yuqi relaxed, thinking he had been overly nervous.

He went to the toilet, splashed water on his face, calmed himself, then returned to his seat with composed expression, taking Li Ying’s hand to continue watching the play.

“Quite vigilant,” Lin Wan leaned close to Lu Zheng and smiled.

“He has a guilty conscience, after all,” Lu Zheng shook his head.

Just now, Lin Wan had been too surprised, and her glance back had betrayed her with an odd look. Now the two did not even glance at Wang Yuqi, simply watching the play while chatting and laughing. No one could spot anything amiss.

Three hours later, the performance ended amid thunderous applause.

“Not bad, not bad,” Lu Zheng clapped. “The effects are good. No wonder it has toured for so many years. The lighting and sound are almost as impressive as my spells. My Fire Control Spell and Palm Thunder are probably about this level of spectacle.”

Lu Zheng picked the two least powerful spells he knew. The Fire Control Spell could even be used to light a campfire on wilderness outings, while he had never once used Palm Thunder, given the vast array of spells at his disposal.

Lin Wan held back laughter, then nodded seriously. “Yes, yes, my Taiyuan Profound Light…”

Lu Zheng gave her a sidelong glance. “Can you cast Taiyuan Profound Light now?”

Lin Wan, “…”

So annoying. With her current strength, she could not cast Taiyuan Profound Light. She could not even pretend properly!

The four were in no hurry. They waited until most of the audience had left, then naturally stood and headed for the exit.

Lin Wan casually took Li Ying’s arm and walked ahead. Lu Zheng shook his head, then fell in beside Wang Yuqi. “Where does Mr Wang work?”

“I am…” Wang Yuqi had barely spoken two words when he saw four sharp-eyed people standing at the entrance. His heart jolted.

“Xiumin?” Li Ying knew Huang Xiumin too. Seeing her, she was startled, then smiled and greeted. “You came to watch Legend of Sword and Fairy too? We did not see you at all!”

Huang Xiumin smiled and greeted Li Ying, then came to the two women. “We just arrived.”

“Just arrived?” Li Ying found it odd. It was past ten o’clock, and the Grand Theatre had no late-night shows.

Meanwhile, the other three officers had approached Wang Yuqi. “Sir, please show your ID card, or tell us the number.”

Li Ying froze, her expression tightening. “What is this about?”

Lin Wan held Li Ying’s arm and said calmly, “He is using drugs. Lu Zheng noticed.”

“What?” Li Ying was shocked, instinctively objecting. “Impossible!”

“We will see,” Lin Wan pulled her along. “If Lu Zheng is wrong, I will treat you both to dinner and apologise. Whatever you say goes.”

“This…” Li Ying did not know how to respond for a moment. She trusted both sides, so she turned her gaze to Wang Yuqi.

Wang Yuqi quickly shook his head. “What a joke. I do not use drugs!”

He took a deep breath and gave one of the officers his ID number.

The officer entered it into the device, then saw the note in the records and frowned. “No history of drug use.”

“See! See!” Wang Yuqi spread his hands. “How could I possibly use drugs!”

Li Ying relaxed, but Huang Xiumin and the others were in a difficult position. Without evidence, they could not just take someone back to the station for testing.

Their eyes turned to Lu Zheng, but he said nothing, merely watching the officer with the device.

The officer started, then shivered, quickly looked down at the screen again, glanced up at Wang Yuqi, narrowed his eyes, and spoke sternly. “Is this ID card yours?”

Wang Yuqi, “…”

“Is this person you?”

“Yes.”

“Come, look at this photo. Look carefully. Is this person you?”

“Yes, yes.”

“I will ask once more. Look closely at this person. Look clearly. I am asking you, is this person you?”

“No… no…”

Under the piercing gazes and powerful presence of the officers, Wang Yuqi finally broke and gave his real ID number.

“Wang Liming, with a drug use history, right?”

“Yes…”

“Why use someone else’s ID? Come back to the station with us for a check.”

The officer said coldly, nodded to Lu Zheng in thanks, then turned to Li Ying. “Sorry about this…”

Li Ying nodded. As someone in the system, she knew what to do in this situation. “I will come for a check too.”

As she spoke, Li Ying looked coldly at Wang Yuqi, no, Wang Liming, wishing she could slap him across the face.

Her own father was in the police system, and she herself worked for Interpol. She had heard countless stories of innocent people dragged into drug use, never imagining it would happen to her.

Now, besides hatred for Wang Liming, she was worried for herself.

She wanted to ask him, but dared not, both fearing an answer she did not want and not daring to trust one she did.

“Do not worry,” Lin Wan saw Li Ying’s fear and comforted her softly. “You have not been affected.”

“Really?” Li Ying looked at Lin Wan, eyes full of hope.

“Relax,” Lin Wan smiled. “Lu Zheng’s medical skills are excellent. He would not be wrong. Rest assured and go for the check. He has not had the chance to drag you down yet.”
