Lan Xiaobu knew someone had intervened to save him; otherwise, even if he escaped, he would have been gravely injured. In the Land of Immortality, a severe injury was tantamount to surrendering half your life.
“Lan Xiaobu thanks you for saving my life. Without your help, I would have fallen to that guy,” Lan Xiaobu said, promptly stowing his treasures and clasping his fists in gratitude.
To his surprise, the newcomer was a young man who appeared about his age, dressed in a green robe. Most astonishingly, Lan Xiaobu couldn’t sense any dao aura from him—he seemed like an ordinary mortal. If thrown among mortals, no one would find him out of place.
The only difference was the boundless confidence radiating from the green-robed youth. Yet his gaze was not aggressive, appearing calm and gentle.
The youth sized up Lan Xiaobu, smiling. “I’m Mo Wuji. If I’m not mistaken, you’ve only recently arrived in the Land of Immortality. Your dao is remarkable. Upon arriving, you sensed your shortcomings and worked to address them.”
Lan Xiaobu said awkwardly, “Indeed. That yellow-robed guy was trying to disintegrate a plane, but I disrupted it.”
“He was disintegrating a plane?” A flash of killing intent crossed Mo Wuji’s eyes. Had he known, he would have done everything to kill Chong Jianshan.
“Yes, but my inexperience led me to think he wouldn’t pursue me after being injured. I didn’t expect him to not only chase me but also ambush me. I’m no match for him. If not for you, Brother Mo, I’d be in danger,” Lan Xiaobu said sincerely.
Mo Wuji waved it off. “You can’t beat him now, but that’s temporary. You cultivate your own dao. Once you fully integrate with the Land of Immortality’s dao laws, he may not be your match. When I first arrived, I was chased by several Creation Saint Realm old-timers, but I made it through.”
“You’re the one hunted by seven Creation Saints, hundreds of World-Deriving Saints, and thousands of Creation Dao Saints?” Lan Xiaobu realized, asking in shock.
Mo Wuji smiled. “That’s exaggerated. Though many chased me, it wasn’t all at once. The most dangerous moment was facing just one Creation Saint and three World-Deriving Saints. As for Creation Dao Saints, I never considered them opponents.”
Lan Xiaobu felt deep admiration. “To prove the Immortality Saint Realm under pursuit by so many powerhouses—Brother Mo, that’s incredible. I need to find a place to pursue the Immortality Realm too. Being chased by these bastards is infuriating.”
Mo Wuji shook his head. “I haven’t proven the Immortality Realm. I’m not even a Nine Revolutions Saint.”
“What…” Lan Xiaobu stared at Mo Wuji in shock. Not in the Immortality Realm, yet a single finger had driven off that yellow-robed saint? That strength…
Mo Wuji said, “It’s not a big deal. As long as your dao surpasses your opponent’s, you’ll eventually do the same. But first, you must survive their pursuit. Anyone cultivating their own dao here will be hunted. They won’t allow any threat to their dominance. The Land of Immortality’s heavenly dao laws are extraordinary. You need to slowly refine your dao and not rush to prove the Creation Dao Saint Realm. Otherwise, you’ll miss much and struggle to reach the peak of immortality.”
Lan Xiaobu understood. Mo Wuji wasn’t unable to enter the Immortality Realm; he was deliberately refining his dao in the Land of Immortality. This was true wisdom and perseverance. Could Lan Xiaobu, hunted by a horde of powerhouses, resist entering the Immortality Realm to keep refining his dao?
“Also, if you cultivate your own dao, integrating it with the Land of Immortality’s heavenly rules takes many years…”
Hearing this, Lan Xiaobu was puzzled. Many years? He had felt nearly done in just over ten days. In his view, half a month would suffice to fully merge his Longevity Dao laws with the Land of Immortality, making him undetectable to powerhouses.
Mo Wuji clearly saw Lan Xiaobu’s thoughts but didn’t explain. He said, “After cultivating here for a while, you’ll understand. Once you fully integrate the immortality dao laws into your dao, you can go to a place to further perfect it—Burial Dao Plain. Be warned, it’s dangerous. Many enter and never return. But it’s immensely helpful for you.”
“Thank you, Brother Mo,” Lan Xiaobu said gratefully. These were hard-earned insights, possibly paid for with Mo Wuji’s life.
Mo Wuji waved it off. “I’m leaving, and you must too. If I’m not mistaken, Creation Saints are already on their way to hunt you. One misstep, and they’ll trap you.”
Lan Xiaobu froze. His instincts were sharp, yet he hadn’t sensed danger. Still, he trusted Mo Wuji wouldn’t lie. He pulled out a communication bead. “Brother Mo, let’s exchange communication dao laws.”
Mo Wuji waved his hand. “We haven’t reached the Immortality Realm. Using communication beads here only tells immortal powerhouses our location. Some people in the Land of Immortality are vile. Despite its vastness, they’ve rigged it with countless ways to intercept communication dao laws. We can’t use beads. Once we both reach the Immortality Realm, we can settle scores with them. Farewell, and flee now—the faster, the better.”
With that, Mo Wuji’s figure flashed and vanished. Lan Xiaobu couldn’t discern how he disappeared or where he went.
Then, a jolt hit him. He had sent messages to Zhen Changyuan and others. If Mo Wuji was right, had they been exposed?
That someone like Zhen Changyuan, a long-time resident of the Land of Immortality, hadn’t noticed this, while Mo Wuji had, was telling.
Though aware he might have made a grave mistake, Lan Xiaobu immediately summoned the Seven Realms Stone. Stepping onto it, he vanished from the spot.
Whether Zhen Changyuan and the others were safe, he needed to boost his strength first to help them.
Mo Wuji’s words were subtle, but Lan Xiaobu grasped some of it. He had to fully integrate his Longevity Dao laws with the Land of Immortality’s heavenly dao laws or elevate his Longevity Dao to their equal. Only then could he prove the Immortality Saint Realm. Otherwise, he’d lack the qualifications to reach the highest tier.
Originally, Lan Xiaobu planned to head to the location given by Nether Saint Zhong Wuchen, hide there, and perfect his Longevity Dao until it merged with the Land of Immortality’s rules before venturing out.
But Mo Wuji’s words made him realize that even hiding there would likely lead to the same fate—bound and unaware. He wouldn’t always have someone to save him.
Moreover, Lan Xiaobu was certain Mo Wuji hadn’t merged with the Land of Immortality’s rules by staying in one place. Mo Wuji’s departure left no trace, comparable to Lan Xiaobu’s Ruleless Escape Technique.
Thus, Lan Xiaobu decided to continue integrating his Longevity Dao laws with the Land of Immortality’s rules but not stay in one place. He had to keep moving. After escaping the danger zone with the Seven Realms Stone, he immediately employed his Ruleless Escape Technique, refining his dao while on the move.
Whether Mo Wuji did this, Lan Xiaobu didn’t know. But he resolved to do so.
…
Less than an incense stick’s time after Lan Xiaobu left, several figures landed at his former meditation spot.
“He’s gone. His dao is indeed tied to immortality and is his own,” said the Immortality Saint, his face grim.
In the Land of Immortality, only he could cultivate the Immortality Dao—no second could be allowed.
“Strange, there’s no trace of his departure,” Reflecting Dao Saint said, frowning. A newcomer to the Land of Immortality, no matter how well they hid, couldn’t erase their conspicuous dao law aura in the short term. Any dao cultivated elsewhere would stand out here.
All eyes turned to Heavenly Mechanism Saint, who closed his eyes, calculating. After a full day, he opened them.
“Brother Xing, what’s the result?” Thunder Saint asked, intrigued by Lan Xiaobu’s actions.
Heavenly Mechanism Saint frowned. After a long pause, he said, “It’s odd. I can’t deduce how he left this place. After his departure, the location became extremely vague and uncertain, as if constantly shifting.”
The Immortality Saint sneered. “Didn’t that Mo fellow do the same back then? Who’d have thought we’d see another like him after so many years.”
