“Yangyang, goodbye.”
“Daddy, goodbye.”
Yangyang waved his little hand at his father.
Zhou Honglin turned and walked back to his car. He first apologised to his passenger for making them wait so long, then got in and drove off quickly.
Soon after, Zhan Yin and Haitong, along with their bodyguards, boarded the vehicles sent to pick them up.
Once the car started moving, Haitong reached out to touch Yangyang, who was nestled unhappily in Zhan Yin’s arms.
“Little Auntie.”
Yangyang stretched out his hands, wanting Haitong to hold him.
Haitong took him into her arms, hugging him gently.
“Why’s Yangyang unhappy? Did your daddy say something to you again?”
Sometimes, Haitong didn’t even want her nephew to see Zhou Honglin. Zhou Honglin was jealous of her sister and Lu Dongming and often spoke ill of Lu Dongming in front of Yangyang.
Yangyang now had a bond with Lu Dongming as close as if he were his real father.
When Zhou Honglin said bad things about Lu Dongming, it upset Yangyang.
“Little Auntie, after Mummy and Uncle Lu get married, will they have a little brother or sister for me?”
Yangyang also remembered telling his mummy that he wanted her to give him a little sister.
Because Longting had a sister, Jun Yan, who was so cute, and he really liked her, he wanted a little sister of his own.
The baby in his little auntie’s belly was a boy, so he hoped his mummy would give him a sister.
Haitong said gently, “Do you want a little brother or sister?”
Haitong said gently, “Do you want a little brother or sister?”
In the past, Yangyang would have nodded without a second thought, eagerly saying he wanted a sibling.
This time, though, he hesitated.
He asked, “Little Auntie, if Mummy has a little brother or sister for me, will she still like me? Will she stop loving me? And what about Uncle Lu—will he still be good to me?”
“Of course she will. No matter how many children your mummy has, she’ll always like you and love you. And your Uncle Lu too—he won’t treat you badly.”
Haitong comforted him softly, “You have to trust your mummy’s love for you. It won’t change, and she won’t play favourites. If she ever did, Little Auntie thinks your mummy would probably favour you.”
Because Yangyang’s daddy wasn’t living with them, he only had his mummy.
If her sister had a second child, that child’s father would be Lu Dongming, and the baby would have both parents around, making them happier than Yangyang in that sense.
From what Haitong knew of her sister, Hailing wouldn’t favour a second child. In fact, because she had another child, she’d likely be even kinder to Yangyang, loving him a bit more.
“Little Auntie, will you still love me like you do now? Will you favour my little brother or sister over me?”
Haitong pressed her face against his little cheek and said, “No, Little Auntie will always love you. Even if you have a little brother or sister later, I’ll love you just the same. Yangyang, we’ll all love you just as much.”
That jerk Zhou Honglin—every time he saw Yangyang, he’d say something negative, upsetting the boy.
It also made Yangyang afraid of losing his mummy’s love.
In front of Yangyang, Haitong couldn’t curse Zhou Honglin out loud.
But she was simmering with anger inside.
Back when her sister hadn’t yet divorced, Zhou Honglin wasn’t exactly a doting dad either. When he came home from work, if he was in a good mood, he might play with Yangyang for a bit. If he was in a bad mood, he’d get irritated even when Yangyang just wanted a hug.
