Du Yumeng laughed, “Sis, stop teasing him. He doesn’t usually eat spicy food, eating so much chilli at once could really do him in.”
“I’m back at work today, can’t keep staying at the hospital looking after him, or he’ll think eating chillies once means I’ve agreed to be with him.”
Miss Du said, “Exactly, we can’t let him win with his sob story tactics.”
“Sis, he’s not using any sob story. He’s genuinely in hospital because of the chillies, with a fever, cough, and sore throat, all real. Even now, his voice is still hoarse,” Du Yumeng couldn’t help defending Zhan Yiyang.
Miss Du, “… Look at you, I only said a few words about him, and you’re already jumping to his defence.”
“Mengmeng, in the world of love, the one who falls first is the loser.”
“Listen to me, until Zhan Yiyang truly loves you, Du Yumeng, for who you really are, don’t invest your feelings any further, or you’ll end up completely at his mercy.”

Du Yumeng stuck out her tongue sheepishly.
“Sis, I get it.”
“I’ll keep my feelings in check, won’t let him think I’m falling harder for him.”
Miss Du tapped her forehead lightly, “I believe you, my foot. Luckily, the person Zhan Yiyang loves is also you, and the Zhan family has good values, so he’s unlikely to be an outlier.”
“But no matter what, you must love yourself first. Give him five or six points of your love, not all of it.”
“Your man, you’ve got to train him yourself. Other people’s good men were trained by their partners.”

“Now, go run a couple of laps and head back inside, it’s too cold out.”

At noon, during a break for lunch, she found a moment to call Zhan Yiyang before diving back into her busy work.
The hectic day passed quickly.

The next day was Saturday.
Normally, Du Yumeng was busy on weekends, but this week, she was picking up Xiang Yang from the airport, so she cleared her schedule.
