“After giving birth, you need to rest well. Come back to work six months later, not too soon. Childbirth takes a lot out of a woman. If you don’t recover properly postpartum, the consequences will follow you for life.”
Hai Tong laughed, “Auntie, I haven’t even given birth yet.”
“I know all about it.”
She had taken care of her sister during her confinement, so she understood everything.
At that moment, Su Nan came downstairs with his son in his arms, alongside Shen Xiaojun.
Su Nan’s smile hadn’t faded all day.
During her confinement, Shen Xiaojun ate well and slept well. The baby was either cared for by Su Nan, her mother-in-law, or the nanny. She only needed to focus on eating and sleeping well.
Everyone gathered around to see the little baby.
Hai Tong, heavily pregnant, didn’t join the crowd.
Mrs. Shang held her hand, keeping her from getting too close, worried someone might accidentally bump into her belly.
Soon after, Shen Xiaojun and her husband approached.
“Tongtong.”
Shen Xiaojun called out to her friend with a smile.
Hai Tong first placed a prepared red envelope in the baby’s arms. The little one was dressed in new clothes, bought by his maternal grandmother, as per local custom for a baby’s one-month celebration.
“He’s asleep.”
Hai Tong touched the baby’s face, soft and tender.
He had gained several pounds since birth, clearly well cared for.
“Yep, he eats and sleeps, wakes up to poop, then eats again and sleeps. Easy to care for.”
In Shen Xiaojun’s eyes, her son was easy to manage, rarely crying.
In reality, she didn’t need to care for him much. The baby only needed her for feeding, and sometimes he was given formula, so she wasn’t even needed for that.
Hai Tong looked her friend over.
As old friends, Shen Xiaojun instantly understood Hai Tong’s gaze.
She touched her own face and asked, “Tongtong, have I gained weight?”
“Not fat, just a bit rounder.”
Shen Xiaojun said, “It’s obviously fat. I’m just like my son, eating and sleeping, waking up to eat again. I’ve been raised like a pig for a month. It’d be strange if I didn’t gain weight.”
She ate supplements daily, and her body had recovered well, but her weight had skyrocketed.
She had been nagging Su Nan that she’d start losing weight after confinement.
“I need to lose weight, lose weight.”
Hai Tong laughed, “You’re really not fat, no need to lose weight. You’re breastfeeding now, so it’s normal to eat a lot.”
Her friend had always been a foodie.
Su Nan chimed in, “Honey, I told you, you’re not fat. No need to lose weight. See, Tongtong says so too.”
Shen Xiaojun asked Mrs. Shang, who smiled and said she wasn’t fat. Only then did Shen Xiaojun stop insisting on starting her diet immediately.
The family of three stayed for about ten minutes before taking the baby to meet other important relatives.
Hai Tong and the others stayed at the Su household until the afternoon before heading home.
Since Feng Qing and her husband had arrived, Hai Tong asked her husband to take her to the Shangs’ place, returning home with Mrs. Shang and the others.
When she saw Feng Qing, Hai Tong smiled and complimented her, “It’s been a while, Feng Qing. You’ve become even more beautiful.”
In the glow of newlywed love, Feng Qing radiated charm, looking even prettier than before.
Feng Qing returned the compliment with a smile, “Tongtong, you’re still as beautiful as ever. I’ve seen plenty of pregnant women, but you’re the prettiest one I’ve ever met.”
