Sunan leaned over again, noticing he was looking at Haitong’s Moments post.
He said, “Haitong took the kids out to play this time, and they had a great time, didn’t they? Xiaojun said she also wants to take Sumeng out to play, but she feels she can’t manage that boy alone and asked when I could take a few days off.”
“No need for too long, just a week would do.”
After Zhan Yin finished looking at the photos his wife posted on Moments, he slipped the phone back into his trouser pocket.
“You finish the work at hand, and you can take a few days off.”
Sunan thanked him with a smile, “I don’t even know where to take that boy to play. Kids love amusement parks, but for us adults, going to an amusement park is so boring.”
“Since it’s about accompanying the kids, the main thing is to let them have fun and a happy childhood, so naturally, it should be based on what they like.”
“You and your wife usually leave the kids at home and sneak off to have fun everywhere, don’t you?”
“Now that the kids are on summer break, take them to places they love to play. They’re so young, even if you take them to famous historical sites, they won’t appreciate them or understand their history. It’s just a fleeting visit, meaningless.”
“It’s better to take them to the amusement parks they love and let them have a blast.”
Sunan thought about it and felt his friend made a good point.
Soon, he complained again, “We have a children’s play area at home, and your Youyou Villa is even more impressive, a massive amusement park with every kind of fun facility.”
“Haven’t they played enough? Why do they still want to go to amusement parks when we travel?”
Zhan Yin said, “Kids love the excitement of going out, the fun of being in a crowd, just pure enjoyment of the lively atmosphere.”
“They’ll only be like this for a few years. Once they hit junior high and become teenagers, you take them out to play, and they won’t be that interested anymore.”
Sunan recalled his own teenage years, filled with studying and training. If someone asked him to go to an amusement park, he wasn’t interested, preferring video games instead.
As he got older, he liked more thrilling activities.
He often rode his motorbike out to race with others, getting scolded and punished by his parents, but he never learned his lesson. He even got into accidents and injuries because of it.
Boys are always a bit tougher, a bit naughtier.
No wonder his son was so mischievous, it was in his genes. He was like that as a kid, giving his parents headaches too.
Now he was in his parents’ shoes.
The only difference was, when he got into trouble as a kid, his parents disciplined him, sometimes with a beating if it was serious.
When his son got into trouble, his parents protected the boy, not allowing him to use harsh discipline.
His parents said they didn’t have time to spend with him when he was young, but now, retired with plenty of time, they could be there for their grandson’s childhood.
That wasn’t just being there, it was like being a big shield for their grandson.
Luckily, Shen Xiaojun could manage Sumeng, though sometimes she got headaches from it too.
When Shen Xiaojun disciplined their son, her in-laws would pace around in front of her, not daring to say a word, no matter how much they felt for their grandson, too afraid to intervene.
Sometimes the head of the Su family, oh, Sunan’s uncle, the former head, would see Shen Xiaojun disciplining the kids and want to step in to protect his grandnephew, but he’d get a lecture from her too.
The retired head of the Su family, now a grandfather himself, was also someone who doted endlessly on his grandson.
Yet, he was also someone who feared his daughter-in-law. When she disciplined the kids, he, like his younger brother, would pace around, not daring to make a sound.
The kids gradually figured it out, when their mum disciplined them, no one in the family could help them.
