“Dr. Lin has probably never watched a film with Xiaoya, has he? I have watched a film with her, and we have even gone shopping together.”
After flaunting this, Zhan Yue straightened up, turned, and walked away.
Dr. Lin stared at his retreating back, seething with jealousy.
He had known Xiaoya for so many years, yet he had indeed never taken her to the cinema, nor had he ever gone shopping with her alone. He had only strolled with her a few times in a group.
It was a fact that Xiaoya did not love him.
In Xiaoya’s own words, if she were going to love him, she would have done so long ago. There was no need to wait until now.
Did Xiaoya really like Zhan Yue?
Apart from being handsome and having a moderately wealthy family, what was there about a man like Zhan that deserved Xiaoya’s love?
A man like Zhan Yue might well end up just like Xiaoya’s first boyfriend.
Although Lin Jian grumbled about this in his heart, he had to face one reality: Xiaoya’s attitude towards Zhan Yue was very warm, whereas towards him it had previously been polite and now it was distant and cold.
After he confessed, Xiaoya never accepted the flowers he sent.
Had he lost?
No, he had not lost. As long as Xiaoya remained unmarried for even one more day, he still had a chance. He had not lost yet.
Dr. Lin asked the milk tea shop staff to pack up that cup of milk tea for him. After paying, he took the cup outside, returned to his car, placed the milk tea on the passenger seat, and drove home.
When he reached the building where he lived, he noticed that the lights in his flat seemed to be on.
He thought he must be seeing things or had mistaken the floor.
He stopped, looked up carefully, and confirmed that it was indeed his home.
He had not yet returned home, so how could the lights be on? The keys to his flat, apart from those he had given to his parents and family, had never been given to anyone else. Although He Yuehua often came to his place to help with some housework.
He had never given a key to He Yuehua. Whenever she came over, he was always at home.
Could it be that his parents had arrived?
With this thought, Lin Jian quickened his pace, entered the building, pressed the elevator button, and soon reached his floor.
He unlocked the door with his key, stepped inside, and immediately heard the sound of his parents laughing and talking with He Yuehua.
It really was his parents who had come. Why had they not told him in advance?
How could He Yuehua be here? Surely his parents had not invited her?
“Dad, Mum, why are you here? You did not even phone me beforehand. I could have gone to the high-speed rail station to pick you up.”
Lin Jian spoke to his parents while changing his shoes.
His father replied, “You have not been back for a long time. Your mum and I were missing you. It just so happened that your mum needed to come into the city for a check-up and to collect two months’ worth of medication to take home, so we called a ride-hailing car and came straight here.”
“Ride-hailing is much more convenient. It can bring us directly here. You would not need to go to the high-speed rail station to meet us, and we would still have to take a taxi to the station anyway. It is not very convenient.”
Though the fare for the ride-hailing car was much more expensive than high-speed rail tickets.
“Your mum and I went to your clinic. You were not there, but Yuehua was, so she helped us carry things and brought us here.”
Whenever Lin Jian’s family or relatives visited, they often asked He Yuehua to help look after them, buy groceries, cook meals, and so on. She had done such things before.
In the eyes of many in the Lin family, Lin Jian and He Yuehua were already a couple. Although they were not entirely satisfied with He Yuehua’s family background, one was a doctor and the other a nurse. They were very well-matched.
If Lin Jian could not find someone better, his father and mother would accept it and let their son marry He Yuehua.
