Su Meng also greeted them politely. “Uncle Zhan, Auntie Hai.”
The couple both nodded.
“Young Master, Young Madam, I will take the two young masters to school now.”
The housekeeper said with a smile.
Hai Tong hummed in agreement. “Drive carefully. There is no rush. It is still early.”
“Young Madam, I know.”
The housekeeper led the two little young masters away.
As they walked, the two boys kept turning back to wave goodbye to Hai Tong.
Once in the car, Baobao said to Su Meng, “A Meng, don’t you think my mum and dad are the real true love, and I was just an accident?”
Su Meng replied, “Same for me. My mum and dad are true love too, and I came free with a phone top-up. Before, I was their only child, and only my cousin could steal a bit of their attention.”
“Now my mum is pregnant with either a brother or a sister, and they hardly notice me anymore. I have been staying at your house night after night, and no one has come to fetch me. They probably think the house is peaceful without me.”
The housekeeper chuckled. “Young Master Meng, the Young Master and Young Madam love you very much. The Old Madam and the others dote on you too. You are the very first great-grandchild of the Old Madam’s generation, so the feelings are special.”
“You must not complain, Young Master Meng. I remember that yesterday afternoon, when school finished, your father came to the gate himself to collect you. You said you wanted to come back with our young master and did not want to go home.”
“Master Nan had no choice but to let you stay here. It is not that they do not want you home.”
Su Meng stuck out his tongue, but still said, “They would be only too glad if I stayed away. They think I am far too naughty at home. They always say that if I am not beaten for three days, I will climb on the roof and strip off the tiles.”
“Every day they make me practise martial arts and learn this and that. It is no fun at all.”
The housekeeper said, “You still have to learn all those things here too. Nothing that needs to be learned can be stopped or dropped.”
“That is different. With Baobao beside me, I know I am not suffering alone, and that makes me happy.”

He had plenty to learn as well. Mum and Dad always said he was the eldest son and eldest grandson. Nine times out of ten he would become the Zhan family successor. In future he would lead the family, so he must study hard, work diligently at everything he was taught, and be outstanding in every way.
Only then would he be worthy of the family and have the bearing of an eldest brother. As the big brother he had to be more accomplished than all his younger siblings, so they would look up to him and respect him.
Just as his uncles all respected and stood in awe of Dad because Dad was their eldest brother.
Baobao understood his responsibility. Whatever his parents asked him to learn, he studied it with great seriousness.
He was naturally bright and learned everything quickly and well, which made him a little better at it than Su Meng.
“I hope my mum has a boy.”
Su Meng said to Baobao.
“Why? Uncle Su and Auntie Jun both want a daughter. Don’t you want a little sister too? You are always envious that I have one, and I have a girl cousin as well.”
Niuniu was his cousin.
A girl cousin counted as a sister too, so he effectively had two sisters.
His best friend was very envious.
Su Meng said with utmost seriousness, “My parents always say I am terribly naughty, like a monkey that cannot keep still. If they have another son, and my little brother turns out even naughtier than me, then they will finally realise how good I really am.”
