“Great-aunt is almost here. Let’s stop chatting now and talk when we meet.”
“Okay.”
Hai Tong ended the call with her great-aunt.
She said to her husband, “Great-aunt is on the way to our house. She says she has been missing Beibei terribly.”
Zhan Yin smiled. “That’s good. We will wait for Great-aunt to arrive before we leave.”
Mrs Shang arrived soon afterwards. The aunt and niece chatted for another ten minutes or so. Only at Mrs Shang’s urging did the couple finally leave the house together, each heading off to their own company for work.
At that moment, the old lady and Zhan Yue had just reached the hospital.
Zhan Yue said to his grandmother, “I could have come to collect the results myself. There was no need for you to make the trip, Grandma. Beibei is still at home, and Big Brother and Sister-in-law have to go to work.”
The old lady replied, “Your big brother and sister-in-law will sort it out. I am only out for half the day. I will be back by noon.”
She was not worried at all. There were plenty of relatives happy to help look after Beibei.
“What if Big Brother and Sister-in-law really have no time?”
“If they truly cannot get away, your brother will take Beibei to the office, or let Yunchu watch her. Yunchu has time these next couple of days.”
Zhan Yue said, “Why did no one think of sending her to me? I would love to have Beibei. The more time I spend with her, the more likely I might have a daughter just as cute as Beibei one day.”
The old lady laughed. “Xiaojun keeps wanting to take Beibei to the Su family for a longer stay. Now that she is pregnant with her second child, she is desperate for a girl.”
“But at night, Beibei will only sleep if her mummy is with her. During the day, anyone can look after her. At night, even your brother cannot manage her.”
“Come on, let us go and print the results, then take them to show Xiaoya. Is your rival not bringing his mother for a check-up today? He booked Xiaoya’s appointment too, did he not?”
“Is Grandma here to back me up?”
Zhan Yue said with amusement, “I do not need you to back me up, Grandma. I really do not see Dr Lin as any threat.”
Zeng Xiaoya did not love Dr Lin.
Zhan Yue had nothing to worry about.
“I am just here to watch. I know you do not need my support.”
The grandmother and grandson continued talking as they walked.
Zhan Yue helped his grandmother to the area outside Zeng Xiaoya’s consultation room, sat her down to wait, and went to collect the test results.
Shortly after Zhan Yue left, Dr Lin arrived in a hurry with his parents.
The family had just returned from the seaside and come straight to the hospital.
Even He Yuehua had come along.
“Has our number been called yet?”
Lin’s mother was worried they had missed their slot.
“Not yet. We still have to wait a little.”
Dr Lin checked the appointment time, noticed an empty seat beside the old lady, and asked his mother to sit there.
He went to the clinic door and looked inside. When Zeng Xiaoya saw him, she nodded in greeting.
Dr Lin smiled back but did not enter to interrupt while she was seeing other patients.
Tomorrow, Zeng Xiaoya would no longer be needed in outpatients and would return to the inpatient department.
She would only be back in outpatients for two days the following week.
He Yuehua and Lin’s father stood quietly beside Lin’s mother. She knew Dr Lin was still unwilling to let go of Dr Zeng. After all, he had admired her for many years.
