Mrs Shang said, “We never worry about these small matters.”
“Your Zhan family truly is very considerate towards the bride’s side.”
Mrs Shang expressed her admiration.
“Mainly, the child lives there now and is familiar with the circles there. Holding the wedding in that city is also fitting.”
Mrs Shang nodded. That was reasonable.
“Great-Grandma, I am sleepy.”
The little girl had reached her afternoon nap time. She yawned, then leaned her small body against the old lady.
The old lady held her and said indulgently, “Sleep, then. Great-Grandma will hold you while you sleep.”
Mrs Shang worried about tiring the elderly woman and reached out to take Beibei. “Old lady, let me hold Beibei until she falls asleep. You have been holding her for so long. Do not tire yourself.”
After all, she was ninety years old.
Her strength was not what it used to be.
The old lady asked Beibei, “Beibei, would you like Great-Aunt to hold you while you sleep?”
At that moment, the little girl was not fussy. When Mrs Shang reached out, she allowed herself to be taken.
In less than two minutes, she was soundly asleep.
Mrs Shang said softly, “Beibei is far easier to manage than my grandsons. No matter how lively she gets, she is never as mischievous as those boys.”
“Quite right. Beibei is so clever and so well-behaved.”
The old lady was never sparing in her praise for her great-granddaughter.
“I will telephone the master first and ask him to choose auspicious dates for our Old Seventh.”
This time, two dates would be selected: one for presenting the betrothal gifts and one for the wedding itself.
Some of the earlier dates had already passed, or were too soon and rushed, or too distant.
Old Seventh could not wait much longer.
While the old lady here was calling the master to pick new favourable dates, over in Yangcheng, Zhan Wei was stepping out of his car with a bouquet of fresh flowers and heading into the Lan Group office tower.
Now that the two companies had begun negotiating cooperation, he used the pretext of discussions every day to come over, but in reality he was there to see the woman he loved.
Chang Xiao privately grumbled to his wife that, after knowing Zhan Wei for so many years, this was the first time he had discovered Zhan Wei would choose love over empire. Now most company matters were left to him to handle.
It was wearing him out.
Mrs Chang could only comfort her husband, saying things would improve once Zhan Wei married Lan Ruoruo.
Chang Xiao replied that, after the wedding, Zhan Wei would still go on honeymoon. By the time he returned, New Year would not be far off.
Mrs Chang kept soothing him. As the founder of Yangtai Company, he ought to contribute more. For years Zhan Wei had run the company, so the boss himself could not remain completely hands-off forever.
In truth, Mrs Chang also hoped Zhan Wei would marry soon and return to his former work efficiency, so that she and her husband could go back to their relaxed days.
Chang Xiao declared that, once Zhan Wei had sorted his major life event, he would stay well away from the company. He would simply collect dividends each quarter and leave everything else alone. If he got involved in even one matter, Zhan Wei would dump the entire company back on him.
He truly was not suited to business. Without the management team Zhan Wei had restructured, he would not cope at all. Even though Zhan Wei frequently visited Lan Group, he still handled arrangements for the company’s important affairs.
Zhan Wei himself was well aware that he could not rely entirely on Chang Xiao, the founder.
“President Zhan.”
“President Zhan.”
As he made his way in, everyone at Lan Group who saw Zhan Wei smiled and greeted him.
They had long grown used to his daily visits.
In the past, when Zhan Wei and Lan Ruoruo were still bitter rivals, he would still appear at Lan Group, only then it was to spar with Lan Ruoruo.
At the height of their rivalry, Zhan Wei had genuinely stormed into Lan Group to slam the table in front of her.
