Back at the Zeng family clinic, the main door was closed, but the lights inside were still on.
Zeng Xiaoya said, “My second uncle and second aunt should be having dinner upstairs. After they finish eating, they will come down and reopen the door. Usually there are not many patients at night anyway.”
Nights were much more relaxed compared to the daytime.
Zeng Xiaoya got out of the car, used her key to open the clinic door, then turned to Zhan Yue, who had just got out, and said, “It is still early. Come in and have a cup of tea.”
“I was just thinking the same thing.”
Zhan Yue helped her carry the gifts she had received out of the car.
Zeng Xiaoya opened the clinic door again.
She invited Zhan Yue to sit at the tea table where her second uncle usually drank tea, then boiled water, poured out the old tea from the teapot, and brewed fresh tea.
“It is still early now. Drinking tea will not affect your sleep tonight, will it?”
“No, probably because I drink too much coffee and tea, even if I drink tea at night I can sleep like a pig.”
Zeng Xiaoya laughed. “I used to be unable to sleep all night after just a little tea, but now I am pretty much the same as you.”
“Xiaoya, you are back.”
Her second aunt came down from upstairs.
The couple had just finished eating. The second aunt heard the noise and came down first, while the second uncle was still clearing the table.
“Second aunt.”
Zhan Yue stood up and greeted her.
The second aunt smiled and responded, only then did Zhan Yue sit back down.
“Have you eaten yet?”
The second aunt asked.
“Yes, we have. I originally planned to come back in the afternoon, but Grandma Zhan insisted I stay for dinner before leaving. So we had dinner, and Zhan Yue cooked the dishes himself. Second aunt, Zhan Yue is really good at cooking, even better than the cook at our house by quite a bit.”
Zeng Xiaoya praised Zhan Yue in front of her second aunt.
The second aunt looked at Zhan Yue with sparkling eyes. Her niece had truly picked up a treasure.
This man had a good family background, a good personality, great ability, and he could even cook superbly. He really was capable both outside the home and in the kitchen.
“Really? When can we try Zhan Yue’s cooking?”
Zhan Yue immediately said, “If second aunt and second uncle are willing to give me the honour, I can come over anytime to show off my skills.”
Knowing the couple were tied to the clinic every day and could not leave, Zhan Yue did not invite them to his house for a meal. Instead, he offered to come over and cook for them himself.
The second aunt smiled broadly like a flower. “Then we will not stand on ceremony. Come over whenever you are free to show us what you can do. Rest assured, we will not dislike it, and we will not treat you like an outsider.”
Zhan Yue agreed.
Zeng Xiaoya watched her second aunt smiling so happily and suddenly had the absurd feeling that her second aunt might be trying to sell her off.
It must be her imagination.
Her second aunt treated her like her own daughter. Since the second uncle and second aunt only had sons and no daughters, they were extremely good to their niece. How could they possibly sell her?
Yes, she was overthinking it.
“Xiaoya.”
A sudden voice interrupted them, and the laughter in the room stopped.
Everyone looked towards Doctor Lin as he walked in.
Seeing her senior from school, Zeng Xiaoya could not help sighing inwardly.
Surely Senior Lin was not still unwilling to give up?
