Afterwards, Ling Xiao spent some time carefully healing Jiao Batian’s body, restoring it to its original condition before leaving a strand of his own soul inside the empty shell.
In the past, he would never have been able to do this.
But now, having cultivated the Primordial Spirit Remnant Scroll, splitting off a portion of his soul to control a soulless husk was well within his abilities.
This could not really be called possession.
True possession was far more difficult.
After all, possession meant seizing control of a living, conscious being.
Having dealt with Jiao Batian’s body, Ling Xiao used Shadow Step along with the Shadow Armour and slipped silently out of the True Demon Empire’s palace.
Perhaps because they were too pampered, or perhaps because they trusted the palace arrays too much, not a single person in the entire palace noticed Ling Xiao’s movements.
Except for the eunuch whose memories had already been partially erased.
He left the palace without incident. Moon Goddess was still waiting outside, looking rather bored.
The Yin-Yang Demon King had not appeared, so she had simply been sitting cross-legged, cultivating under the bright moonlight. For her, the moon’s glow was excellent nourishment.
“Let’s go, Sister Moon. I’ve got the Soul Armour.”
Tonight’s harvest had been considerable.
Not only had he obtained the Soul Armour, more importantly, he had further honed his combat skills and gained a clearer understanding of his own strength.
Against a First Cavern Heaven warrior who lacked real combat experience, he did stand a chance of victory.
And that chance was not small.
The only problem was that winning took far too long.
“The sky is almost light. You’ve been at it for hours,” Moon Goddess said with a light laugh.
“No choice. That fellow was stubborn. I had to wear him down slowly. Killing him outright was too difficult.”
Ling Xiao shrugged, genuinely a little helpless.
“Alright, let’s head back and rest for a bit. Aren’t you meeting people from the Holy Dynasty Restoration Society tomorrow?”
Moon Goddess grabbed Ling Xiao’s arm. With a gentle flicker, they both melted into the night.
The Holy Dynasty Restoration Society was a recently formed organisation.
It was similar to the old Heavenly Justice League. It consisted of warriors who wished to rebuild the Holy Dynasty, and it even included people Ling Xiao knew.
Since their goals aligned, Ling Xiao intended to cooperate with them this time. That would greatly increase their chances of killing the Yin-Yang Demon King and destroying the True Demon Empire.
“Wait. Something’s happening over there!”
In the pitch-black night, down a narrow alley, a warrior was being pursued.
The identity of the fleeing person was unclear, but he was human.
The pursuers, however, were obviously from the Sea Clan, most likely a secret unit of the True Demon Empire.
In a situation like this, Ling Xiao could not possibly stand by.
Moon Goddess nodded and drifted down towards the ground.
On the way, she flung Ling Xiao forward.
Borrowing the momentum, Ling Xiao’s figure flashed explosively.
He became a streak of lightning in the night sky. Several pursuing Sea Clan warriors were killed on the spot before they could even cry out.
The man being chased was already gravely injured. He had only kept running through sheer willpower.
If Ling Xiao had not intervened, he would undoubtedly have died.
Seeing Ling Xiao slay the Sea Clan warriors, the tension in his body suddenly released. He slid down the wall and collapsed.
“Thank you, little brother. May I know your name?”
He asked weakly.
“It’s the middle of the night. Why were the Sea Clan chasing you?”
Instead of answering, Ling Xiao posed his own question.
The man hesitated for a moment before seeming to make up his mind. “I won’t hide it from you, little brother. I am from the Holy Dynasty Restoration Society. I was carrying out a mission when those Sea Clan lackeys discovered me. That’s how I ended up badly wounded.
Please, can you go to nearby Langton City and find our people? We need reinforcements urgently. A large number of our brothers are trapped in the forest outside the city. They’re surrounded by pirates and True Demon Empire dogs. The situation is critical.”
“Aren’t you afraid I might be one of those Sea Clan lackeys?”
Ling Xiao asked with a smile.
“No way. You just killed several of them.”
The man shook his head.
“But I’m not familiar with Langton City. Finding your Restoration Society people won’t be easy. You lot are always appearing and disappearing like ghosts. How could a stranger locate you?”
Ling Xiao shook his head.
“That’s fine. Once you reach Langton City, just look for someone called Wu Xiang. She will pass our message to Restoration Society headquarters.”
“Wu Xiang?”
Ling Xiao paused. “You mean Wu Xiang from the Moonlight Sect?”
“Exactly. He used to be the sect leader of the Moonlight Sect and is now the dean of the Chosen Academy. I’m only telling you this because I trust you. Please don’t tell anyone else.”
Perhaps because he thought he was about to die, the Restoration Society warrior told Ling Xiao everything he could.
If it had been anyone else, Ling Xiao might not have helped.
But since this involved his senior brother Wu Xiang, he had no choice but to act.
“Here. Take this pill first. It will keep you alive. Once you can move again, leave on your own. I have something to take care of first.”
Ling Xiao looked towards the area outside the city.
The sky had not yet brightened, but a faint blood-red killing aura could be seen spreading beyond the walls.
If he was not mistaken, that was where the Restoration Society members were being besieged.
“Little brother, you’re not thinking of going outside the city to save them, are you? Don’t be reckless! Among those pirates, the four strongest have reached the Ten Directions Heaven realm.
The rest are all powerful Celestial Human realm warriors, more than forty of them. You alone can’t possibly handle them.”
The Restoration Society warrior panicked and even forgot to swallow the healing pill.
“Shut up.”
Ling Xiao stuffed the pill straight into his mouth. “Langton City isn’t far, but by the time I go there and come back, all your people will be dead.”
“Then I’m coming with you!”
After swallowing the pill, the warrior discovered how miraculous the medicine was. The moment it went down, his wounds began healing rapidly.
Although they had only been external injuries to begin with, a pill this extraordinary was truly rare.
He actually felt he could stand and fight again.
“You’d only slow me down. Still, bringing you along might prevent misunderstandings.”
Ling Xiao casually grabbed the warrior by the collar, then leapt into the air. His feet left the ground and he actually flew.
The Restoration Society warrior stared in stunned amazement.
If he was not mistaken, this young man could not be older than seventeen, yet he possessed such an incredible movement technique and could even glide while carrying someone?
High in the sky, Moon Goddess merged into the clouds and followed closely without revealing herself.
She knew she could not spoil Ling Xiao too much, or he would become like a flower in a greenhouse, never able to truly grow.
