Behind Mo Shaoyou’s hideous mask, a trace of anger glinted.
His gaze settled on one of the three, a young girl even younger than himself, yet her aura was colder than his. The killing intent rolling off her was in no way inferior.
The girl clearly used a short sword.
But a short sword was still a sword, and in many ways it shared the same principles as a longsword.
“Insolence! You see our Senior Brother Mo and still refuse to step aside? You dare争 with him for the road?”
At that moment several warriors rushed out from behind Mo Shaoyou and began hurling abuse at Ling Xiao’s group.
Mo Shaoyou did not stop them. He simply stood there with arms folded, a proud smile curling his lips.
He was plainly enjoying the spectacle.
“Leng Mei, how many groups of blind idiots have we run into today?”
Ling Xiao asked lightly.
“The fourth.”
Leng Mei replied.
“And the previous three?”
Ling Xiao asked again.
“Already dead.”
Leng Mei’s icy voice carried unmistakable menace.
Sin City truly lived up to its name. From the moment the three of them entered, they had known no peace. Along the way, three separate groups had eventually attacked them.
All of them had ended up decapitated.
In a place like this, reason was meaningless. Try to reason and others would draw blades on you. The only option was to repay cruelty with cruelty, eye for eye, crushing your opponent in the most cold-blooded way possible.
“What about the strength of this fourth group?”
Ling Xiao asked.
“Apart from that Mo Shaoyou, they’re all trash.”
Leng Mei answered. “Mo Shaoyou has reached the embryonic stage of Half-Step Cave Heaven and has grasped a small amount of cave-heaven power. He really is strong.”
“Not bad. The Life-Taking Sword of Bi Bo Island, Mo Shaoyou. He counts for something.”
Ling Xiao nodded with a smile. Mo Shaoyou’s power was obvious without needing words. Not only his cultivation, but his swordsman realm had already entered the Erratic Soft Sword stage.
A fellow like this, even without releasing his martial soul, possessed strength close to the growth stage of Half-Step Cave Heaven.
If he did unleash his martial soul, he could probably slay growth-stage Half-Step Cave Heaven warriors.
“Master is right. He does count for something, but compared to Master he is nothing at all.”
Leng Mei always spoke the plain truth, never caring whom she offended.
Ling Xiao only smiled and did not deny it.
He had killed even Kong He. Mo Shaoyou truly was nothing in his eyes.
“Outrageous! Getting ruder by the second. Calling us trash is one thing, but you dare insult our Senior Brother Mo?”
Among the four blocking their path was a young woman whose cultivation was mediocre but whose temper was anything but small, and exceedingly arrogant to boot.
She actually pointed straight at Ling Xiao’s nose and declared, “Our Senior Brother Mo is the third-ranked Life-Taking Sword of Bi Bo Island! He reached Half-Step Cave Heaven at twenty! Who do you think you are to even be mentioned in the same breath as him?”
The girl was clearly infatuated with Mo Shaoyou, and hearing the man she fancied belittled had sent her into a rage.
Ling Xiao could not be bothered to argue with such a woman. He merely smiled and said, “Life-Taking Sword? Quite a resounding title. Unfortunately I am ignorant and have never heard of it. In this world, anyone who dares put the word ‘sword’ in their nickname is either extremely confident or an arrogant fool who overestimates himself!”
Sword users were the most numerous in the Profound Realm. Even Ling Xiao would not dare give himself a title involving swords, yet this Mo Shaoyou truly was arrogant enough.
A classic overconfident youth who did not know the height of the heavens or the depth of the earth.
“Pfft!”
Suddenly a sword whine rang out. The ground where Ling Xiao stood cracked open. The severed stone slabs looked as though they had been sliced by something, smooth yet tinged with faint blood-red.
Ling Xiao smiled faintly. Mo Shaoyou was trying to intimidate them, but Mo Shaoyou probably did not realise that fortunately the strike had been aimed at the ground.
Had it been aimed at Ling Xiao himself, Mo Shaoyou would already be a cold corpse.
Ling Xiao lifted his gaze.
Mo Shaoyou still stood with arms folded. The black sword at his waist merely trembled slightly. If one did not look closely, it would seem he had never moved at all.
Mo Shaoyou looked back at him and said coolly, “Misfortune comes from the mouth. Don’t invite trouble upon yourself. Some words are not for everyone.”
The proud, disdainful tone perfectly revealed Mo Shaoyou’s arrogance and overbearing nature.
“What a fast sword! I didn’t even see him strike. How did he do that?”
Someone in the crowd cried out in shock.
“I didn’t see it either. But the Life-Taking Sword drew his blade, so why is there no blood?”
Others were puzzled.
They did not know that Mo Shaoyou felt a trace of wariness toward Leng Mei and had therefore held back from drawing blood.
But the onlookers were unaware. Many lovestruck young girls even thought Mo Shaoyou was showing mercy to the newcomers, that he was being magnanimous.
The girl from Bi Bo Island was practically swooning, already fantasising about shameful bedroom scenes with Mo Shaoyou and feeling an inexplicable surge of happiness.
To be conquered in bed by such a man would be bliss.
Of course, in Ling Xiao’s view, women like that were simply cheap, but it was none of his concern and he could not be bothered to comment.
Leng Mei’s broken sword was already half-drawn, ready at any moment to flash out as a deadly streak.
“Leng Mei, put the sword away.”
Ling Xiao gently patted her hand and smiled.
Mo Shaoyou’s swordsman realm surpassed his own, so Ling Xiao felt the thrill of meeting a worthy opponent. He could not let Leng Mei kill such a perfect sparring partner.
“Yes, Master.”
Leng Mei was obedient, yet Ling Xiao could still feel the icy killing intent radiating from her hand.
“Good girl. We didn’t come to Sin City to fight and kill. We came to shop.”
Ling Xiao smiled lightly, calm and unruffled, as if nothing had happened.
Yet on his personal blacklist, Mo Shaoyou had already become a pitiful practice dummy. He simply did not wish to act yet.
There were so many treasures on Black Street waiting for him to buy. What if he damaged someone’s stall?
What if he destroyed something he urgently needed?
That would hardly be worth it.
“Hmph! Now you see how terrifying our Senior Brother Mo is! Still not getting out of the way?”
The Bi Bo Island girl grew even smugger. She gave a cold snort and shouted arrogantly, as if it had been her sword that struck moments ago.
Leng Mei had already calmed down. She was indifferent to verbal insults, but anyone who raised a hand against Ling Xiao would be eliminated without hesitation.
Had Ling Xiao not stopped her just now, Mo Shaoyou would already be dead.
As for Yue Nü, the supreme expert of the Yin-Yang Realm, she felt not the slightest interest in these child-like warriors.
