“Young Master, don’t worry about me later, just escape if you get the chance!”
The old man was clearly prepared to fight to the death, though he wasn’t sure if it would make a difference against such a formidable opponent.
“I understand.”
Though panicked, the youth didn’t lose his composure. He knew exactly what the situation meant and couldn’t let Grandpa Lin’s efforts go to waste.
Moments later, three figures arrived.
One was the Black Wheel General who had just left, accompanied by two others, both powerhouses at the eighth stage of the Mortal Realm.
One was at the mid-eighth stage, the other at the late-eighth stage.
Either of them could kill Old Lin within a few moves.
“Greetings, Your Highnesses!”
In the dragon race, the Dragon Emperor held the highest authority and strength, followed by the nine Dragon Kings, a tradition carried over from the Ancient Era.
However, the nine Dragon Kings within the Moonlight Pagoda were naturally not comparable to those of the Ancient Era.
The Black Dragon King was one of the current nine Dragon Kings and also the reigning Dragon Emperor.
These two newly arrived Black Dragon Clan princes were the Black Dragon King’s uncle and great-uncle, holding significant status.
“No need for formalities! Were you spotted by anyone on the way?” asked the prince with a single dragon horn.
“Reporting to Your Highness, of course not. This old man Lin was too cunning, guessing our intentions to harm them and trying to escape. Fortunately, Your Highnesses arrived in time, or it would’ve been tricky,” reported Scarface.
“Good, very good. As long as no one saw, we’re fine. The Black Dragon Clan mustn’t be too overt, or we’ll anger the other eight Dragon Kings, and things could get messy,” the One-Horned Prince nodded, smiling.
“Interesting, it really is the dragon race, and it looks like they’re having an internal conflict.”
Ling Xiao had noticed the situation earlier. He had planned to ask for directions, but seeing the turn of events, he hid to observe and get a clearer picture.
Though he didn’t know the full story, from what he could gather, the Black Dragon Clan was planning to wipe out the Golden Dragon Clan entirely.
This he couldn’t allow.
Having awakened the Primordial Golden Dragon, with its blood flowing through his veins, he wasn’t entirely unrelated. He could ignore other matters, but the Golden Dragon Clan’s affairs were something he had to get involved in.
However, he didn’t act rashly. He preferred to wait for the perfect moment to strike, ensuring the young Golden Dragon would be deeply grateful, making future dealings much easier.
Acting too early might seem hasty, and others might not appreciate it.
Acting too late could be pointless if the targets were already dead.
He altered his aura, blending in like a blade of grass, undetectable to others.
“Your Highness, what’s the plan?” asked the Black Wheel General.
“Is that even a question? Naturally, we eliminate them. Once the Golden Dragon Young Master is dead, the Golden Dragon Clan will be extinct, and our Black Dragon Clan will rule the dragon race forever,” the One-Horned Prince sneered. “Don’t spare that old Silver Dragon either, take care of him to avoid trouble.”
Hearing this, Old Lin’s expression changed drastically. His worst fears were coming true.
“Run!”
Old Lin roared, grabbing the Golden Dragon Young Master and fleeing, determined to break through the black flame barrier.
Scarface blocked his path again.
“Get out of the way!”
In his fury, Old Lin bellowed, his hand transforming into a dragon claw and striking fiercely.
Scarface, no match for him, was sent flying, coughing up blood.
“Fool, if you’d accepted death quietly, it’d be easier. Trying to escape in front of this prince? You’re dreaming!” the One-Horned Prince scoffed, condensing the black flames into a dragon’s head that lunged at the youth and old man.
Old Lin roared again, still clutching the Golden Dragon Young Master with his left hand while striking with a dragon claw from his right, aiming to shatter the dragon head.
“A mere speck daring to rival the bright moon? Overestimating yourself!” the One-Horned Prince sneered, increasing his true essence. The dragon head became more solid, almost lifelike.
Bang!
Crack!
Old Lin’s arm was completely shattered, and his body was sent flying.
Even gravely injured, he clung to the Golden Dragon Young Master, refusing to let go.
“You only want my life, don’t harm Grandpa Lin!” the Golden Dragon Young Master, seeing Old Lin’s severe injuries, leapt forward, roaring.
Young as he was, his strength wasn’t weak, already at the sixth stage of the Mortal Realm.
But against the late-eighth-stage One-Horned Prince, he was still insignificant.
“Hahaha, admirable filial piety, but just a reckless fool!” the One-Horned Prince laughed wildly, lunging at the youth, his black dragon claw seizing the boy’s neck.
“Dying by this prince’s hand means your life wasn’t wasted.”
Pfft!
But at that moment, a sword light flashed with lightning speed.
The One-Horned Prince tried to dodge, but the sword was too fast, leaving no time to react.
Crack!
The One-Horned Prince’s arm was cleanly severed, and a massive sword mark, over ten metres long and a foot or two wide, appeared on the ground, terrifyingly impressive.
“No—!”
The One-Horned Prince let out a piercing scream.
He knew how tough a dragon’s body was, yet a mere sword light had effortlessly cut off his arm.
Who was this person?
How could they be so terrifying?
Could it be the Moonlight Heavenly Lady’s successor?
“You bastard, who are you? How dare you attack our Black Dragon Clan?” the One-Horned Prince roared at the newcomer.
In his view, though the opponent’s swordsmanship was impressive, they were just a human, likely strong in attack but weak in defence. With caution, there’d be no issue.
Ling Xiao ignored him, stepping in front of the youth and tossing him a pill. “Give this to your grandfather, it’ll keep him alive.”
The pill, obtained in the Moonlight Pagoda, had remarkable healing properties, far surpassing the healing pills Ling Xiao could refine.
But using it to gain favour was worth it.
“Thank you!” the youth said, rushing to Old Lin and giving him the pill.
He didn’t hesitate.
If the newcomer meant harm, they wouldn’t bother with such a convoluted method; they could’ve just stood by, and the two would still die.
Besides, he had no time to doubt and could only trust the stranger.
