After a moment of shock, Mo Fan’s eyes revealed a trace of killing intent. Judging by the direction the monster fled, it was likely a lesser demon from Black Wind Mountain.
Having already made an enemy, if the bird demon returned to the mountain and spread rumours, it could bring disaster.
With this in mind, he spat out another arrow, nocked it on his great bow, and aimed at the bird demon.
But soon, Mo Fan lowered the bow.
“Forget it. The bird demon’s flown too far. With this bow’s power, I doubt I could kill it. Instead, I’d only confirm my intent to kill, inviting deadly trouble…”
Mo Fan muttered to himself, his eyes flickering, before opening his mouth to use the Heaven-Devouring Divine Art, storing the bow and arrow in his internal space.
“Toad Lord, aren’t we escaping? That bird demon’s clearly off to fetch reinforcements. What do we do?!”
The rabbit demon was frantic. Though naive, it wasn’t truly foolish and knew the bird demon was likely from Black Wind Mountain.
“What else? We deal with it!”
Mo Fan rolled his eyes, leapt onto Erha’s tiger back, and said calmly, “We’re here to join Black Wind Mountain. That was just a misunderstanding. If the leader here is reasonable, they shouldn’t do anything to us.”
“But what if the leader isn’t reasonable?” the rabbit demon asked.
“Well…” Mo Fan paused, then waved impatiently, “We’ll deal with it then!”
He’d waited so long for this chance and wasn’t about to give up.
Mo Fan had a plan. If they pursued the matter, he’d compensate them with those milky-white stones.
The old hunter said they were immortal treasures, surely valuable. He just wasn’t sure if the demons here would recognise their worth.
Danger and opportunity went hand in hand. Mo Fan was ready to gamble. Having struggled to transform from a mere toad into a demon and finally finding this demon mountain, he wasn’t ready to let it go.
Besides, if there was a formidable demon in Black Wind Mountain who wanted to hold him accountable, could he really escape now?
Knowing the mountain held tigers, he’d still charge in, betting on a future!
Win, and he’d live a comfortable demon life, maybe even become a demon king one day. How grand would that be?
As for losing, Mo Fan didn’t dwell on it. Worst case, he’d start over!
With this resolve, he headed resolutely toward Black Wind Mountain.
“Rabbit, if you’re scared, leave now. Don’t drag me down later,” Mo Fan said to the rabbit demon.
“If Toad Lord isn’t scared, neither am I!”
“You saved me before, Toad Lord. How could I abandon you?” the rabbit demon said sincerely.
“Good lad!”
Mo Fan was pleased, surprised by the rabbit demon’s loyalty.
“Besides, you shot that bird demon, Toad Lord. What’s it got to do with me?” the rabbit demon added.
“You little—!”
Mo Fan was fuming. So much for loyalty—this rabbit was just shamelessly clueless!
“Toad Lord, what’s ‘you little’ mean?” the rabbit demon asked, puzzled.
“It’s… well, it’s you little!”
“Still don’t get it. Can you explain clearly?”
“It means you’re great.”
Mo Fan made it up, starting to find the chatty, naive rabbit demon annoying.
“So ‘you little’ means I’m great?”
“Toad Lord, you little!”
The rabbit demon chirped innocently, flashing a harmless smile.
“Damn it…”
Mo Fan was speechless, realising he’d dug his own grave with a casual remark.
The two demons and one tiger reached the foot of Black Wind Mountain when the white bird returned.
Knowing Mo Fan had a bow, the bird demon stayed out of range, circling overhead and shouting, “You filthy wild demon, not only did you sneakily wound me, but you dare come to our Black Wind Mountain? You’re begging for death!”
“Brothers, take this toad down!”
“That tiger and rabbit are accomplices too. Don’t let them go. Capture them all for Lord Demon Soldier to deal with. It’ll be a great merit!”
At the bird demon’s command, several figures charged from Black Wind Mountain toward Mo Fan’s group.
Mo Fan’s heart sank. Looking closely, he saw several lesser demons, partially transformed into human-like forms.
Leading was a youth with sinister eyes, narrow and long, with cyan marks on his cheeks like tattoos.
Below his head was no beast body but a human one, muscular and defined, covered in cyan fur. His large hands were strong, but his legs retained beastly traits, slightly bent backward, resembling an incomplete werewolf.
Beside the wolf demon was a shifty-eyed rat demon with beady eyes, human head, and hands. His prominent whiskers and long, thin tail made his origin unmistakable.
Next to the rat demon was a slender demon with triangular eyes.
Unlike the others, this one had only a human head, no limbs, just a thick snake body, the largest of the group at nearly three zhang long. Its slithering produced an eerie, hair-raising sound.
“Roar!”
Sensing their hostility, Erha let out a tiger roar, shaking the demons’ ears.
“A mere tiger beast dares act tough before us? Perfect, we’ll catch it for a feast!”
The wolf demon sneered, letting out a low growl, his already sturdy frame swelling further.
In an instant, his demon body grew to nearly a zhang tall, like a small giant.
Not just Erha, but Mo Fan was stunned. He hadn’t expected this wolf demon to be so terrifying. He slapped Erha’s head, shouting, “What are you standing there for? Run! You wanna be their feast?!”
Erha turned and fled!
“Dead toad, where do you think you’re going?”
The wolf demon roared, chasing after them, his legs propelling him like an arrow.
“Heh, think you can escape from me, Mountain Mouse?”
“Rattlesnake, let’s go!”
The rat demon sneered, and the snake demon shrank to arm’s length, coiling around him.
The rat demon burrowed into the ground, kicking up dust and stones, vanishing with the snake demon, leaving a large hole.
A bulge appeared in the earth, racing visibly toward the fleeing tiger.
Boom!
The ground erupted, a thick tail emerging from the pit, whipping Erha like a lash.
“Ow!”
Erha yelped, stumbling from the blow, nearly collapsing.
“We’re done for, surrounded!!”
“We’re dead, totally dead!!”
The rabbit demon bounced on Erha’s back, its pretty face filled with terror.
Mo Fan’s heart sank.
Wolf demon behind, snake demon ahead, bird demon above, and rat demon below—he was truly trapped, no way up or down.
After witnessing their abilities, Mo Fan lost any thought of fighting them.
That wasn’t fighting; it was suicide!
So he chose to surrender, forcing an awkward smile at the demons. “Fellow demon brothers, it’s a misunderstanding, absolutely a misunderstanding!”
“We’re here to join Black Wind Mountain’s demon king. We might be comrades one day. No need for a life-or-death fight, right?”
