Above the Demon Spirit Valley, thunder roared, and the clouds in the sky shifted unpredictably.
At times, they turned inky black, spreading across the heavens; at others, they transformed into fiery red clouds, blazing fiercely. Endless darkness clashed with rampant flames, resembling an apocalyptic scene.
Mo Fan looked up at the sky, his heart filled with awe.
He hadn’t expected the battle between these two supreme powerhouses to be so terrifying, almost triggering celestial phenomena. It was simply too frightening.
“Is this the power of a Saint King?”
“When will I possess such strength… By then, I suppose I won’t have to be a pawn for others anymore?”
Mo Fan murmured to himself, yet his flight speed didn’t slow in the slightest, instead growing faster.
After crossing that majestic peak, he and He Feifei completely left the Demon Spirit Valley behind.
“To Black Wind Mountain!”
He Feifei suddenly spoke, “I made a pact with the General. Once we escape, we head back to Black Wind Mountain. There, the General has set up an array that should keep us safe!”
“The Third General?”
Mo Fan was taken aback. It was the first time he’d heard that the Third General of Black Wind Mountain had such capabilities, but he suddenly asked, “Are you saying the Third General knew in advance that the human cultivators were coming to attack?”
“No, it’s because when we were retracting the array earlier, we happened to spot the flying vessel of the human cultivators from a distance. So, the General withdrew immediately, returned to Black Wind Mountain, and prepared to activate the mountain protection array,” He Feifei shook her head.
“Retracting the array…”
Mo Fan thought for a moment, then glared, displeased, “So, the reason the barrier in the Demon Spirit Valley shrank earlier was because of you lot?”
“You could say that, but it was the King’s order. The General was just following commands,” He Feifei replied.
“Since the Third General escaped, why didn’t you? Were you abandoned by the Third General?” Mo Fan sneered.
He Feifei’s expression shifted slightly, but she answered, “If I had fled, who would have informed you? Who would have come to save you?”
“Do you even believe your own words?”
Mo Fan rolled his eyes, not buying her explanation at all. Instead, he deduced, “I bet the Third General knew the human cultivators were coming and, in a panic, left first. As for you, you silly girl, you were probably sweet-talked by the Third General into coming to the valley to report to the King, right?
Only, when you arrived, it was already too late. Just as you were about to flee, you happened to spot me!”
Mo Fan sneered repeatedly, leaving He Feifei silent. After a long pause, she gave a bitter smile, “That Lu Tantanh was right. You really are a clever demon, Comebao, to even guess that.”
“But what I said earlier was true. The General did send me to inform the King and told us to return to Black Wind Mountain for safety,” He Feifei said earnestly.
“I’ll trust you for now!”
Mo Fan nodded, letting He Feifei guide the way as they flew toward Black Wind Mountain.
With human cultivators launching a massive assault, who knew how many powerful cultivators remained in the Hundred Thousand Mountains? For now, Mo Fan had no idea where else to go, so he opted to return to Black Wind Mountain.
In his view, since Black Wind Mountain was the lair of that boar demon king, it must have some defensive measures. Even if it didn’t, he could escape through the spring pool if needed.
More importantly, there were still a dozen or so pursuers on their tail, leaving Mo Fan no time to relax.
Though he had broken through to the demon general realm, he wasn’t arrogant enough to think he could take on a dozen Foundation Establishment cultivators, especially when two of them had auras that felt dangerously threatening to him.
The best course of action was to lead these pursuers to Black Wind Mountain, where they could use the mountain’s protective array to hold them off. Perhaps he could even team up with the Third General for a counterattack.
If he managed to survive this calamity unscathed, he would have earned merit. Even if the demon king returned to settle scores later, his contributions would offset any blame, so he had little to worry about.
Thus, returning to Black Wind Mountain became the most advantageous choice for Mo Fan.
The Three Mountains trial had already caused heavy losses for Black Wind Mountain, and with this human encirclement, more demon generals might fall. When Black Wind Mountain needed to rebuild, Mo Fan’s importance would grow, and a demon general position would surely be his!
Thinking of this, Mo Fan couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement.
How long had he been with Black Wind Mountain?
And now, he was on the verge of becoming a demon general with real power!
If he stayed a few more years, wouldn’t the demon king position be within reach?
“Indeed, fortune favors the bold!”
“Though this past year has had its dangers, the rewards have been even greater!”
“It’d be best if that wild boar king died at the hands of the human cultivators. Then I wouldn’t have to wait years to vie for the demon king position!”
Mo Fan’s eyes grew brighter, though he felt a pang of regret for not even tasting the Six-Colored Vermilion Fruit.
“By the way, how did you suddenly break through to the demon general realm?” He Feifei asked, puzzled, “I remember just a month ago, you were only at the late demon soldier stage, right?”
“Because this general is extraordinarily gifted!” Mo Fan chuckled, his words tinged with pride.
He knew she hadn’t seen him devouring those demons; otherwise, she wouldn’t dare stay so close to him.
“Forget it if you won’t tell me!”
He Feifei rolled her eyes and asked, “Earlier, in the chaos of the demon horde, I heard many demons shouting in fear about the ‘Demon Eater’ coming. Do you know what that means?”
“No idea. Maybe they were talking about those ferocious human cultivators, afraid of being killed and cooked into stew!” Mo Fan spouted nonsense with a straight face.
“That makes sense. Now that you mention it, those human cultivators are indeed ruthless enough to earn the name ‘Demon Eater,’” He Feifei nodded, taking him seriously.
Mo Fan: “…”
“Can you tell me about the Third General?”
“Like, what kind of divine abilities does he have? Oh, and what about the First General, Jin Jia, and the Second General, Bai Yao? What are their powerful abilities…”
Thus, the two demons chatted as they swiftly flew toward Black Wind Mountain.
Behind them, more than a dozen grim-faced cultivators followed, some riding giant brushes, others stepping on bamboo scrolls, or wielding swords, gradually closing the distance.
“This is bad. These guys are relentless. If this keeps up, we’re both done for!”
Mo Fan glanced back, his face grim, noticing their pursuers were much faster, which filled him with anxiety.
“Ahead is the Black Water River. Many great demons lurk there. If only we could get their help, but that’s unrealistic,” He Feifei said with a bitter smile.
Mo Fan’s eyes lit up. Looking toward the horizon, he indeed saw a vast lake at the edge of the land.
“Nothing’s unrealistic. It just means the incentives aren’t enough!”
Mo Fan grinned and flew toward the Black Water River.
“You have a way to get their help?” He Feifei’s eyes brightened.
“Why bother asking them? I can make them come out themselves. Believe it or not?”
“Comebao, stop boasting at a time like this. If you don’t have a plan, just fly to Black Wind Mountain as fast as you can!” He Feifei was exasperated.
She didn’t believe Mo Fan had such capabilities.
She had visited the Black Water River several times and even dealt with the great demons there, but she knew she couldn’t persuade them to help.
“Whether it’s boasting, you’ll see soon enough!”
Mo Fan’s lips curved slightly. Turning back, he shouted, “Grandkids, your grandpa’s getting reinforcements soon. If you’re not afraid to die, keep chasing!”
