After witnessing Yan Mo descend like a divine warrior, Mo Fan heeded his advice and promptly fled.
He had initially worried that Qin Changsheng might pursue him, but after running nearly a hundred miles in one go, he finally realised he was safe.
“It seems that Qin guy was held back by Yan Mo. What a good person!”
Mo Fan lay on the dry leaves in the dense forest, panting heavily, his face beaming with joy.
Gazing at the occasional rays of light filtering through the leaves, Mo Fan felt, for the first time, that being alive was truly wonderful!
“I hope Yan Mo doesn’t get into trouble!”
“But with that mysterious fox demon helping him, he should be fine, right?”
Mo Fan muttered to himself, worried for Yan Mo.
Though he had only met Yan Mo once and they weren’t particularly close, this time he was genuinely touched by the man’s actions.
A human cultivator saving a demon like him? Mo Fan found it almost unbelievable.
“Qin Changsheng… Great River Academy, just you wait!
This debt won’t be settled so easily. Once I’ve mastered my cultivation, I’ll come back for revenge!”
Mo Fan gritted his teeth, growling inwardly.
This was the most dangerous ordeal he’d faced since becoming a demon, nearly killed by that Qin fellow.
But Mo Fan knew Qin hadn’t gone all out from the start, or he wouldn’t have survived long enough for Yan Mo to save him.
“No matter what, I’m alive!”
Mo Fan exhaled heavily, then began an internal inspection, finding no major injuries, only some surface wounds.
The next moment, he channelled demonic energy to envelop his body, and the wounds healed at a visible rate.
In an instant, Mo Fan was fully recovered.
He wasn’t surprised by this, as it was a basic function of demonic energy, capable of healing minor injuries.
Of course, this only worked for light wounds. Severe injuries like severed limbs couldn’t be fully healed by demonic energy.
Once recovered, Mo Fan didn’t dare linger and prepared to leave.
But just then, sounds of fighting reached his ears, mixed with muffled curses.
“Could it be those two fighting their way here?”
Mo Fan’s heart tightened, ready to flee, but the curses grew clearer, sounding oddly familiar.
“Damn monkey, stop chasing me! I told you I didn’t steal anything, why don’t you believe me?
Is it worth chasing me for two hundred miles?!”
“Filthy rabbit, you dared steal my clan’s spirit wine! What nerve!”
“Today, I’ll drag you back to pay with your life!”
“Damn your ancestors, I only stole one jug of wine, and you want my life? Can’t you be reasonable?!”
“Dead rabbit, didn’t you just say you didn’t steal?!”
“Bloody hell, I slipped up!!”
“…”
Deep in the forest, the voices became clearer, making Mo Fan’s expression turn peculiar.
He recognised one of the voices as that stingy rabbit’s!
“Why’s Red Eyes here? And it sounds like he stole something?”
Mo Fan muttered, hesitating briefly before following the sound.
After all, they were both demons from Black Wind Mountain, brothers in hardship under the same Ding rank. He couldn’t just let him die, could he?
Besides, wasn’t his excuse for this trip to find that guy?
Now that he had the chance, Mo Fan didn’t mind lending a hand.
After running a few hundred metres, Mo Fan finally saw two figures chasing each other through the forest.
Leading the chase was Red Eyes, hopping frantically on his rabbit legs!
Behind him was a demon with a half-manifested spirit body. From its traits, Mo Fan could tell it was a monkey demon.
Though he didn’t know where this monkey demon came from, it was clear Red Eyes was no match and was fleeing in panic.
Red Eyes, the rabbit demon, was utterly frustrated. All he’d done was steal a jug of wine, yet this blasted monkey had chased him nearly two hundred miles.
Wasn’t that a bit excessive?
Though indignant, Red Eyes had to admit the monkey demon was stronger. At least for now, he was no match.
The more he fled, the tenser he became, until he sadly realised he’d lost his way.
Just as he was thinking, the footsteps behind him stopped. Red Eyes paused, turning to see the monkey demon gone.
“Did that guy give up?”
Red Eyes felt a surge of excitement, but then a chilling breeze came from above.
Looking up instinctively, he saw a dark shadow hurtling toward his face!
Startled, Red Eyes realised, as it drew closer, that it was a stick.
It was too late to escape or even dodge.
The stick was just too fast!
*Bang!*
A dull thud rang out, and Red Eyes was sent flying!
“Dead rabbit, give me back my wine!”
The monkey demon, previously vanished, leapt down from a vine, dragging a long stick and striding toward the dazed Red Eyes.
“No wine, just my life, and I won’t give you that!”
Red Eyes cursed, scrambling to flee.
“You can’t escape!”
“Since you won’t return the spirit wine, I’ll kill you and eat your flesh. That’ll make up for it!”
The monkey demon sneered, swinging his stick at Red Eyes!
Red Eyes unleashed a surge of demonic energy, infusing his claws.
Instantly, his ordinary claws turned into sharp, foot-long blades, raised to block his chest.
*Boom!*
The stick struck, sending Red Eyes flying again, unable to resist.
His sharp claws were torn open, blood seeping out, and even his mouth bled, clearly heavily injured.
“Damn it! Am I really going to die here?”
Red Eyes gritted his teeth, unwilling to accept his fate.
“Looks like you’re ready to die, so die!”
The monkey demon approached, stick in hand, sneering as if mocking Red Eyes’ overconfidence.
“I’m a demon of Black Wind Mountain! If you dare kill me, my brothers won’t let you off!”
Red Eyes growled, his demonic energy nearly depleted.
“Brothers? A bunch of lowlife demons?”
The monkey demon scoffed, raising his stick for the final blow.
“If they dare come, I’ll send them to join you!”
With that, the monkey demon’s stick came crashing down!
“I’m done for!”
Red Eyes felt bitter, never expecting to meet such a miserable end.
*Whoosh!*
Just as Red Eyes resigned himself, a piercing sound rang out, followed by a warm sensation on his cheek.
The expected death didn’t come. Opening his eyes, he saw an arrow lodged in the monkey demon’s forehead!
The monkey demon’s energy dissipated, like a deflated balloon, lifeless!
“Dead… dead?!”
Red Eyes’ pupils shrank, stunned by the outcome.
“Sorry, to avoid being killed by you, I had to take you out first.”
A calm voice came from behind Red Eyes.
