The voice of the monkey clan’s demon general suddenly rang in Mo Fan’s ears, startling him.
“Damn it, so fast?!”
Mo Fan’s heart sank. Though afraid, he didn’t pause, continuing to sprint toward Black Wind Mountain.
Though he could faintly see the outline of Black Wind Mountain, as the saying goes, “You can see the mountain, but you’ll run yourself to death reaching it.” This place was still over a hundred miles from Black Wind Mountain.
Mo Fan knew that to be truly safe, he had to reach within a hundred miles of Black Wind Mountain.
That was the range of Black Wind Mountain’s influence.
“You stole our clan’s spirit wine! You won’t escape!”
The demon general’s voice rang out again, much closer this time, sending a chill through Mo Fan’s heart.
He glanced back and saw a mass of black mist rapidly approaching from the sky, far faster than his running speed!
“I’m a demon of Black Wind Mountain! You dare lay a hand on me?”
“Aren’t you afraid my great king will kill you and serve you up as a feast?!”
Mo Fan shouted, his tone fierce but his heart trembling.
He couldn’t fight this demon general, so he had to rely on Black Wind Mountain’s name to intimidate the monkey demon.
“Hmph! Didn’t you just claim to be the demon king?
Why aren’t you keeping up the act now?
Does Black Wind King know you’re using his name to wreak havoc outside?”
The monkey demon general sneered, unfazed, and said coldly, “Don’t worry, Black Wind King won’t know, because you won’t see him.”
“Our clan’s spirit wine is of great importance. Since you know about it, there’s no way we’ll let you go!”
Hearing this, Mo Fan’s heart sank further. He gritted his teeth and said, “I’m not the only one who knows! Even if you kill me, the secret will still get out!”
“When word spreads that your monkey clan produces spirit wine, it’ll echo through the Demon Spirit Mountain Range, attracting countless demons!
That’ll be the end of your monkey clan!!
Why not let me go? I swear I won’t say a word, and I’ll make my brother keep the secret too. Your monkey clan just needs to supply us with two gourds of yellow-tier spirit wine each month. How about that?” Mo Fan pleaded while fleeing.
“You little demon have no skill, but your mouth is as big as a toad’s yawn. You can barely save yourself, yet you dare negotiate with this general? You’re tired of living!”
The monkey demon general sneered, waving a hand. Instantly, two shadowy figures shot out from the black mist, heading straight for Mo Fan.
“Don’t worry, if you’re going to die, that damned rabbit won’t live either!
Once you’re both dead, no one will know about the spirit wine!”
“Damn you!”
Mo Fan was furious, but as the two humanoid shadows closed in, he began to panic.
“Bang!”
While running, Mo Fan’s foot sank, and he plummeted into a pit in the ground.
“It’s over! Why did I fall into a trap now… The heavens want me dead!!”
Mo Fan was on the verge of tears, ignoring the pain in his backside as he tried to climb out. But something grabbed his leg, scaring him into kicking wildly.
“Ouch!”
“Damn it, ugly thing! I’m saving you, and you kick me in the face?
You blasted toad, you’re no demon!”
The familiar cursing made the panicked Mo Fan pause. Turning, he saw Red Eye had somehow appeared behind him.
“What are you staring at? Run!!”
Red Eye snapped irritably, turning to sprint down the tunnel behind them.
Mo Fan snapped out of it, realizing he’d fallen here because Red Eye had saved him.
Understanding this, Mo Fan was both shocked and delighted. This stingy rabbit was reliable in a pinch, proving his earlier rescue wasn’t in vain.
Boom!
Just as Mo Fan followed Red Eye away, a loud explosion came from the pit behind them, shaking the ground several times.
“Is this the power of a demon general?
Too damn terrifying!”
Mo Fan’s heart raced, and he sped up.
“Think hiding underground will stop this general?”
“Get out here!”
Boom! Boom! Boom… Boom!!
Along the way, Mo Fan and Red Eye were terrified, with explosions echoing behind them.
Fortunately, Red Eye’s digging was exceptional. Whenever an explosion sounded, he dug deeper, until eventually, the blasts could no longer be heard.
Mo Fan couldn’t help but admire and envy Red Eye.
Though Red Eye’s cultivation wasn’t high, his digging ability was phenomenal—a true life-saving skill!
Most importantly, the monkey demon general’s explosions collapsed the tunnel behind them, naturally losing track of the two demons.
On the surface, the monkey demon general landed, demonic energy swirling. After inspecting the pit for a while, he had to give up.
“Roar!!”
The demon general let out an unwilling roar toward Black Wind Mountain before turning and flying off, demonic energy steaming.
Mo Fan didn’t know what was happening above ground. He and Red Eye stayed underground until their breathing grew laboured, only then resurfacing.
Back on the surface, Mo Fan saw no sign of the monkey demon general and realized they were far from their previous location.
Looking up, he saw Black Wind Mountain much clearer now, meaning Red Eye had dug at least a few miles!
“Dear heavens, Laibao, what kind of demon did you provoke? So terrifying?!”
Red Eye, the rabbit demon, sprawled on the ground in a star shape, still shaken.
“It’s because your intel was wrong!”
Mo Fan glared at him irritably.
If Red Eye hadn’t confidently claimed there were only a few low-grade monkey demons in the ancient peach tree, would he have been greedy enough to try?
If he’d known there were several demon generals, he wouldn’t have dared steal the monkey wine, even if you beat him to death!
Mo Fan recounted what happened in the ancient peach tree’s hollow, scaring Red Eye as well.
“Those monkeys are that fierce?
There are several demon generals?!”
“Demon generals are nothing. I suspect they even have a demon king!”
Mo Fan said, still shaken, warning, “By the way, don’t tell any other demons about this, or we’ll really piss off the monkey clan. If we leave Black Wind Mountain, we’ll probably die unnaturally!”
Mo Fan knew how wild those monkeys were.
Back then, just getting near the tree got him chased for miles by a group of monkeys. Stealing the wine was one thing, but if word of this got out, it would be a disaster for the monkey clan, and their grudge would be massive.
Besides, spreading the news wouldn’t benefit him, so why would he?
“Makes sense, that’s too scary!!”
Red Eye nodded but then said worriedly, “But what if the master asks? We can’t lie to him, can we? If he finds out we deceived him, he’ll skin us alive!”
“Then don’t let him know!”
Mo Fan rolled his eyes, thinking, “You were clever before, how’d you get so dumb?”
“Let’s go back to the mountain. Today’s the last day of patrol duty; we can’t delay!”
“But I haven’t gathered the five stones of meat yet, what do I do?” Red Eye said glumly.
“No worries, I came out to help you. It’s just five stones of meat, I’ll cover it!”
“Brother Laibao, you’re a true friend! From now on, you’re one of my closest demon brothers!”
“What’s a closest demon brother?”
“The kind you can sleep with!”
“Damn it! My orientation is normal, don’t try to bend me!!”
