The moment the eight trigrams pattern appeared, a cold smile spread across Mo Fan’s face.
He had not expected this fellow to actually dare make a move.
Just as he was about to act, he suddenly found himself unable to move, as if a great mountain was pressing down on him, incredibly heavy.
Was this the array?
Mo Fan’s brows furrowed slightly. Then he endured attacks from the eight zombies, but these strikes were no more than an itch to him.
As his divine sense surged, Mo Fan immediately detected that Corpse Daoist behind him was watching him being surrounded and attacked by the eight zombies with an uncertain expression. His aura was surging violently, as if hesitating whether to strike.
Seeing this, Mo Fan let out a cold laugh and said faintly. “Friend Corpse, you are walking a narrow path!”
At these words, Corpse Daoist’s body shuddered violently. He shouted softly. “Explode!”
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom…!!
In an instant, the eight hairy zombies attacking Mo Fan all detonated simultaneously!
“Ugh…!”
Even Mo Fan could not help but let out a muffled groan under the terrifying power of the explosions, but that was all.
His current defences had reached a horrifying level. Even the self-detonation of eight hairy zombies could not truly wound him.
Corpse Daoist’s pupils contracted upon seeing this. Realising that not even the dragon scales on Mo Fan’s body had been breached, he finally gave up all hope and quickly said. “Great King, do not be angry. This was merely one step in activating the Corpse Poison Curse. I had no intention of attacking you.”
Hearing this, Mo Fan’s anger gradually subsided.
Though he clearly knew that Corpse Daoist had indeed harboured killing intent moments ago, since the man had said as much, Mo Fan could not be bothered to expose him. After all, he still needed to use Corpse Daoist later.
After the eight hairy zombies exploded, they did indeed release a large amount of green corpse poison, enveloping Mo Fan’s entire body. Corpse Daoist also began continuously casting the Corpse Poison Curse, pouring corpse poison into Mo Fan without pause.
In fact, even without Mo Fan’s reminder, Corpse Daoist was already exerting the curse with all his might.
He was no fool. He understood that Mo Fan was using his corpse poison for cultivation, though he did not know exactly what for. But he was equally aware that cultivating with poison carried great risks. If he poured everything he had, he might just manage to poison this monster to death!
Mo Fan, however, paid no attention to such thoughts. He simply commanded the Life-Extinguishing Sword within his body to fully devour the corpse poison, then slowly integrate it.
As expected of a direct disciple of the Corpse Yin Sect, Corpse Daoist sustained the Corpse Poison Curse for an entire day before finally weakening.
Mo Fan absorbed it with growing satisfaction, while Corpse Daoist nearly exhausted himself. When he looked at Mo Fan again, his face was filled with terror.
He could not comprehend how, after swallowing so much corpse poison, Mo Fan remained perfectly fine, as if nothing had happened.
At this point, the total amount of corpse poison inside Mo Fan exceeded even what Corpse Daoist himself contained at full strength!
Even Corpse Daoist himself was horrified by this.
“Why have you stopped? Hurry and continue! Otherwise, this king will immediately throw you into the sow demon’s cave dwelling!”
Feeling Corpse Daoist faltering, Mo Fan immediately threatened him discontentedly.
Helpless, Corpse Daoist could only force a bitter smile and continue releasing poison.
He now understood. This damned fellow had captured him alive precisely to turn him into a relentless poison producer, supplying poison for his cultivation.
After being squeezed several more times, Corpse Daoist finally collapsed. The once robust man had lost a great deal of weight, lying on the ground gasping heavily.
“We will cultivate up to here today. We continue tomorrow!”
Leaving these words, Mo Fan told Corpse Daoist to get out on his own.
As Corpse Daoist left the stone chamber, he happened to run into Bai Tian Tian approaching.
Bai Tian Tian was quite surprised upon seeing him. She recognised Corpse Daoist, but he looked different from her memory, much thinner.
“Why are you here?”
Bai Tian Tian’s brows furrowed slightly, her gaze unfriendly as she stared at Corpse Daoist.
“I did not want to be. It is all because that damned devil inside captured me!”
Corpse Daoist gritted his teeth, but suddenly sensed a strand of divine sense sweeping over him. His body trembled, and he dared not say another word. He slunk away to lean against the cave wall, grieving in silence.
Bai Tian Tian shook her head slightly at this, then entered Mo Fan’s seclusion chamber without hesitation.
Upon entering, she immediately noticed a pitch-black flying sword hovering before him, its surface faintly shrouded in wisps of green poisonous mist.
“Your Life-Extinguishing Sword seems to have grown stronger!”
Bai Tian Tian exclaimed in surprise.
“Yes, after so many rounds of poison tempering, it has advanced to a king-level demon weapon, reaching the upper-grade tier!”
Mo Fan nodded, his face full of delight.
After a full day of corpse poison refinement, the Life-Extinguishing Sword had finally advanced again, rising from mid-grade to upper-grade!
“The speed at which your demon weapon advances is as fast as your own cultivation!”
Bai Tian Tian smiled bitterly, then, as if remembering something, asked. “Did you capture that Corpse Daoist just to have him supply corpse poison, thereby advancing the evolution of the Life-Extinguishing Sword?”
“Exactly!”
Mo Fan nodded, then opened his mouth to retrieve the Life-Extinguishing Sword. He looked up at Bai Tian Tian with a smile. “Congratulations. You have finally restored your former cultivation!”
“That is largely thanks to you. Without the Frost Jiao Dragon Pearl you gave me, recovering to my peak would have taken much longer.”
Bai Tian Tian smiled, then looked at Mo Fan seriously and said solemnly. “Mo Fan, thank you!”
“Come on, you are the White Empress of our Black Wind Mountain. Do we need to be so polite?”
Mo Fan rolled his eyes, then noticed a nail-sized crystal-like dragon scale on Bai Tian Tian’s forehead. He asked in pleasant surprise. “You obtained the inheritance of that Frost Jiao Dragon?”
Bai Tian Tian nodded, but then shook her head. “That Frost Jiao Dragon was not a native of our world. In life, it was a great power from the upper realm, its cultivation no weaker than, and possibly comparable to, the true dragon we saw in the True Dragon Lair. Its inheritance is not easy to obtain. It requires time to slowly digest. So far, I have only received a portion.”
“So powerful?”
Mo Fan was shocked, then his brows furrowed. This meant that Zhantai Xuanyue, or the forces behind her, were far more formidable than he had imagined!
Yet such gifts, Zhantai Xuanyue had given him three at once.
Whether the Frost Jiao Dragon Pearl, the ancient treasure refining method, or that third gift, each was more heaven-defying than the last. This left Mo Fan feeling somewhat uneasy.
He did not believe in pies falling from the sky. Though Zhantai Xuanyue had spoken lightly, saying it was just to make a friend and that it did not matter whether he could fulfil her request, Mo Fan did not believe it.
“Everything in the world is connected by cause and effect. Regardless of whether that fellow harbours ill intent, I must still be cautious… It seems necessary to hand that item over to the Water-Moon Avatar. Perhaps this opportunity can free me from her threat!”
