The blind man was a human cultivator, and Mo Fan easily sensed the spiritual energy fluctuations emanating from him. What puzzled him, though, was how a blind person could draw talismans.
Hence his question.
“Fellow Daoist, these talismans were indeed drawn by me. The two Thunderfire Talismans are priced at fifty low-grade spirit stones each, while the three Diamond Talismans are only twenty low-grade spirit stones each. As for the Divine Travel Talismans, they’re just ten low-grade spirit stones each,” the blind youth said calmly, with a hint of restraint.
“So expensive?”
Mo Fan was inwardly shocked. He hadn’t expected these yellow papers to be so costly, far pricier than low-grade spirit herbs. His brows furrowed slightly.
Could this guy be pretending to be blind?
Seeing I’m a demon, is he deliberately inflating the prices?
Mo Fan grew suspicious, but recalling how that Qin fellow had casually drawn a Demon Suppressing Talisman that rendered the scorpion demon helpless with a single strike, he felt a spark of anticipation for the talismans on this stall.
And if these talismans were truly drawn by this blind youth, that was quite intriguing.
With that thought, Mo Fan’s interest piqued, and he asked, “What are the characteristics of these talismans? Can you explain them to me?”
“It seems you’re a demon cultivator, Fellow Daoist. Only demon cultivators would be unfamiliar with these common talismans.”
“Let me explain for you!”
The blind youth smiled and said, “Talismans are a type of magical tool, but apart from those rare talisman treasures, they’re generally one-use consumables.
Talismans are somewhat like spirit herbs, divided into four ranks: Heaven, Earth, Mysterious, and Yellow, with no further subdivisions.
The talismans before me are all Yellow-rank talismans, also called ‘Yellow Talismans’.
Among them, the Divine Travel Talisman is the most common. Attach it to your legs and activate it with spiritual energy, and it unleashes its power, making you light as a swallow and swift as the wind, capable of travelling a thousand li in a day!”
A small talisman could enable someone to travel a thousand li in a day?
Mo Fan was quite stunned. Now at the mid-demon soldier stage, he could barely cover five or six hundred li in a day. This showed just how astonishing a thousand li was.
That was a speed only a peak demon soldier could achieve!
“You’re not being honest, young friend. While the Divine Travel Talisman boosts speed, it has its drawbacks. You only told this Fellow Daoist about its advantages and not its flaws. That’s not very kind!” a hoarse voice suddenly sounded by Mo Fan’s ear.
Mo Fan turned and saw a silver-haired old man in coarse cloth, supported by a red-robed woman with her face veiled in white gauze.
Mo Fan couldn’t see the woman’s face, but a refreshing fragrance wafted from her, quite pleasant.
He didn’t linger on her, only glancing briefly before looking away.
This market was filled with cultivators, their backgrounds, morality, and strength unknown—human or demon. Mo Fan didn’t want to draw their attention.
Turning back to the blind youth, he saw a look of embarrassment on his face.
It seemed the old man was right. The seller had intentionally omitted the talisman’s drawbacks, focusing only on its benefits—a classic sales tactic!
“Ahem… Senior, I was just getting to that,” the blind seller coughed awkwardly before continuing, “This senior is correct. While the Divine Travel Talisman’s advantage is speed, its major drawback is its short duration. Once activated, it only lasts for one hour.”
“I see. And what about the Diamond Talisman?” Mo Fan asked further.
“The Diamond Talisman is impressive. It’s a defensive talisman. Once activated, it can withstand a full-force attack from a late-stage Qi Refining cultivator for half an incense stick’s time. Even a peak Qi Refining cultivator would need effort to break it!” the blind seller explained.
Mo Fan’s eyes lit up. He’d heard from Dali about human cultivators’ realms, and this so-called Qi Refining stage corresponded to the demon soldier realm.
If he bought this Diamond Talisman, wouldn’t it give him some self-protection?
Though against someone like the Fourth General, Poison Fang, it might still fall short.
“Young man, you missed the key point again,” the old man interjected faintly. “While the Diamond Talisman’s defence is decent, it depends on the opponent’s attack. If they use a Mysterious-rank attack talisman, how would your Diamond Talisman hold up?
Even without an attack talisman, if a typical Qi Refining cultivator uses an attack magical tool, your Diamond Talisman likely won’t last long, will it?”
The blind seller’s brows furrowed, and he said irritably, “Senior, I’m trying to do business here! If you’re not buying, could you please move along?”
“Alas, youngsters these days, so impatient and lacking in morals. I was going to buy some talismans out of pity for your disability, but with such a scheming heart, forget it!” the silver-haired old man sighed, shaking his head.
“Hey! No need for that. My business will do just fine without you!” the blind seller snorted.
“Fine, fine, Xiaorou, let’s go check out other stalls!”
“Yes, Senior!” the red-robed woman nodded respectfully, helping the old man leave.
Seeing the old man depart, the blind seller visibly relaxed.
Mo Fan didn’t mind. He understood the blind man was a businessman and naturally didn’t want disruptions, which he could relate to.
“So, Fellow Daoist, let me tell you about the Thunderfire Talisman!” the blind seller continued. “It’s among the finest Yellow-rank talismans, inscribed with a Thunderfire Curse. Once activated, its power is astonishing, hard for ordinary Qi Refining cultivators to resist!”
“So, fifty low-grade spirit stones for one Thunderfire Talisman isn’t expensive. It can be a game-changer or lifesaver in critical moments!” the blind seller said proudly, “It’s also the most powerful talisman I can make!”
Mo Fan was tempted and asked, “Which is stronger, your Thunderfire Talisman or a Demon Suppressing Talisman?”
“Hey! You’ve got a good eye, Fellow Daoist. Both are among the rare top-tier Yellow-rank talismans. For killing enemies, the Thunderfire Talisman has the edge!”
“And against a Foundation Establishment cultivator, is this Thunderfire Talisman useful?” Mo Fan asked.
“Well… if used unexpectedly, it could possibly deal a heavy blow.”
“Good, I’ll take both Thunderfire Talismans!”
“You’re straightforward, Fellow Daoist! I love doing business with… I mean, making friends with demon cultivators like you!” the blind seller beamed.
Mo Fan then looked at the other talismans on the stall, about to speak when a voice interrupted, “These three Diamond Talismans, our brothers will take!”
Frowning, Mo Fan turned and saw three burly human cultivators, all muscled and imposing.
The one speaking had a blade strapped to his back, while the other two wielded a long axe and a crescent shovel, the type that looked extremely unapproachable.
“Fellow Daoist, I saw these talismans first. You’d best look elsewhere!” Mo Fan said coolly, preparing to spit out spirit stones to pay. But the blade-wielding cultivator swiped his storage bag, producing a sack of spirit stones, slammed it on the stall with a *thud*, and turned to Mo Fan with a provocative sneer, “So what if you saw them first?
I’ve paid. By the rules, these three Diamond Talismans are ours!”
Mo Fan’s face darkened instantly.
